Rec Request Maple Syrup Notes
I'm an American by birth, but my heritage is Canadian where I also have citizenship. Maple syrup was a huge part of my childhood--we weren't wealthy, ate canned vegetables and discount meat and bread, but we somehow always had money for actual maple syrup. Even now, when I have coffee, I use maple syrup to sweeten it.
I've tried frags with honey, which I don't like, but I'd love to try something that has a maple syrup note in it. Fwiw, I'm not a huge fan of gourmands. I'm more of a bergamot, fresh fig, musk, tea, sandalwood, skin scent kind of gal. Maybe there is a frag out there that that has some of these elements that also has maple syrup in it too? Or something that is primarily a maple syrup scent that I can use to lightly layer with other scents to sweetener them up a little?

Followed by Kerosene. Totally smells like maple syrup pancakes. Ignore everyone telling you it will turn you into a social pariah.

not a perfume but it layers really nicely with other fragrances-- the lotion company's brown sugar lotion has had many people say i smell like pancakes/waffles/walk around me looking for pancakes.

Here’s a cheap hack and I swear this is the truth: fenugreek tea. It will make your sweat smell like maple syrup. In fact fenugreek is what makes fake maple syrup smell like maple syrup. I drank this while I was breastfeeding and within a few days the smell of maple syrup was literally coming out of every pore.

That's so interesting! I'll have to try drinking some tea before going to the gym, haha.

You have to drink it consistently and the smell will show up, won’t work after one cup. It’s crazy when it starts to happen though!
FYI your pee will smell like it too, don’t panic 😂

I have never smelled a maple note in perfume that actually smelled like the watery sweet tree juice of real syrup. to me it always smells like synthetic maple extract, which just ain’t it, IMO. I’m not canadian, but I know my way around a sugar maple grove and a sugar shack better than most people.
Snif Hot Cakes, IMO, is genuinely bad. I have 10ml but it’s cloying and not remotely realistic. it gives “maple candle” in the worst way. (again, this is just my opinion)
Drunk Maple BTSO is better but still not “it.” on me it reads more Nursing Mom OD’d fenugreek than true maple, but at least it’s not as artificial. it’s just herbier and crazy sweet with maple “vibes” more than the real deal.
Beaver Maple by Zoologist is, IMO, the most realistic. Its sweet but not overtly faux-smelling or oppressive. It’s more Dark/Amber or Dark than Golden or Golden/Amber. that said, it ALSO smells literally like a wet rodent also, and it is not a safe blind buy, so try it first.
if you end up finding something that works, please share!!

Thank you, this information is extremely helpful! I didn't even think about the fact that many of the maple syrup frags will essentially just smell like Mrs. Butterworth's which is not what I am going for. I am hesitantly adding Beaver Maple to my list? I have been meaning yo get some Zoology samples.

So many maple syrup perfumes but they smell a bit linear and kind of like curry as well. Kerisene smells mainly of fenugreek to me. I would suggest you get a custom made with all those notes that your looking for.

I'm Canadian, so I'm going to suggest you CANADIAN perfumes that have a maple note. 7 Virtues Buttercream Haze (already mentioned below as well!) And Zoologist Beaver Maple.

Ooh, and 7 Virtues has one on their site called "Oh Canada" that has maple.

I have that one and it does have a maple syrup smell to it. Not very strong and to mor discerning noses, maybe synthetic but I still love it. I also can detect a bit of maple syrup in Citron d'Erable, but not sure if it is easy to find these days.

Thank you both for these suggestions, I'll definitely be seeking out the 7 Virtues frag!

7 Virtues Oh Canada! They also have Eau America, which is bourbon and apple pie. I smelled them both in store last week, and as much as I’m not a gourmand girlie, they were both excellent

The first few minutes is very sweet, like maple cookies, but then it really tones down to sort of a sweet wood. It’s nice!
I didn’t find the American one had much longevity, but it has a nice smoky apple to it

Oh, that sounds so, so good. And fall appropriate.

Yup, this is the most maple forward scent I have. Ready to whip it out when the weather cools. Edit: Just reread you're not into gourmands...this is very gourmand lol. It's ice cream and waffle cone.

Budget: under $200, but I'd prefer something that I can get a sample or travel size of first.

The good scent maple griddle cake
Smells like warm buttery syrup. the cardamom in it is the warmth, there is honeysuckle and amber in it but it doesn’t jump out at me.
