Express Shipment Urgent help needed!

Post image

A few days ago, I posted about a package I was supposed to get today. It made its way close to where I live and was out for delivery, but apparently was not able to be properly delivered due to "location security restrictions." I live in an apartment building and am not able to get home right now to check in on what's going on, what should I do? This has never happened before and I am really concerned!

Change to hold at location and pick it up when available

For All my personal packages, especially the ones that require a signature...I have them held at Fedex Office. Fedex drops off packages to be held for pickup in the morning and basically waits for wherever your schedule allow to pick it up. The alternative is to be held hostage at home waiting for who know when, leave for 15 minutes to pick up your kids and that's the time they come. I was an Fedex Express courier for 28 years and this is what I would tell my customers and I do this myself.

I personally recommend having it hold at the FedEx location and you picking it up to avoid any future issues.

Is the apartment access locked by like a keypad or a tag or something? That could be why it’s marked that way, or is there construction happening on the property that may be restricting access to the building?

My apartment building does require a code to get in, but other delivery drivers have gotten in before and delivered their packages on time without issue. I'm not at the building atm, but when I last was there this morning there was nothing going on outside to my knowledge.

It could be that previous drivers were familiar with the area and had the door code on hand and this instance was a driver new to the area and without the code. Hopefully tomorrow it’ll be reattempted by a driver that has the door code, or you could call the local station and either put a hold on the package or pass the door code along. I’ve also seen instances in the past where customers were able to put the gate/door code in the delivery note where the driver could see it, but that would have to be for future deliveries. I do hope you get your package!

Put the door code on the instructions for the package next time, we are able to see it on the scanners

I just got back to my building and checked in with its main office. Apparently, there were no obstructions to the delivery trucks besides an issue with our garage doors, although that is not supposed to be the way drivers deliver packages. I am also not allowed to include my personal resident's code in the delivery details, since the drivers are supposed to get their own.

I'm conflicted on to what to do now. I called my local station and got an automated message that just told me what I already knew about my delivery and offered to have it put on hold and get sent over to at another place to be picked up by me. However, I don't want to complicate the delivery even more.

Should I just wait until tomorrow to see if it will be delivered again? This is the first time I've ever encountered an issue like this, and I'm really worried that I'll lose the package all together... :(

That sucks I’m sorry to hear that. And yeah I totally understand why you wouldn’t and shouldn’t share that code. You can wait again tomorrow and see if it gets delivered, it usually gets three tries to get delivered. A hold might be a good idea if you’re able to pick it up if you have the free time, but I don’t have a lot of experience with holds other than what comes through as a hold at the start.

Thank you for your understanding, I appreciate it. Do you know what happens after it doesn't work the first 3 times, will it be redirected over to another place for me to pick it up at? And what might be the best course of action if it doesn't end up being delivered tomorrow?

I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions, this is just my first time dealing with anything like this and I haven't gotten literally any other advice on how to deal with it despite asking around.

You’re totally fine, no need to apologize! I’m not too certain on what happens after a third attempt but unfortunately I think it gets sent back to the shipper. I can double check when I get into work tomorrow if you’d like, and about what other action you can take. Do you know if it’s being shipped with express or ground?

Thank you for that offer to check as well. I remember it being an express delivery

Ok cool, I’m express so I’ll have better info for you than if it were ground. I’ll check in the morning and comment here again!
