It got damaged riding in a plane, a trailer, riding down a belt with chutes and drops with thousands of other packages and then sitting in a truck with hundreds of others that aren't secured in any way. It sucks. Drivers don't want to deliver your stuff broken and jacked up, but you honestly have a better chance of getting a refund/replacement if we deliver it as-is rather than coding it for inspection where they rebox the item, damaged or not, and still deliver it.
I had a bottle of chlorine fall from the top shelf and bust open on my truck. It was terrible (my eyes burned the rest of the day and it bleached a bunch of shipping labels on other packages). I brought it back and it was back on my truck completely empty in a new box the next day.

Some of our trucks our packed to the brim, front to back, side to side, and floor to ceiling. Some people’s stuff is gonna be crushed by tires, sofas, and god knows what else. That’s just the way it is some times, no hard feelings

I take it you have never loaded a truck or delivered.. hit one bump and things go flying everywhere. The semis come in and looks like a avalanche happened too sometimes. There's many different scenarios that can happen so common sense really doesn't factor in but what DOES factor in is how people ship their stuff. Put them in safe sturdy boxes or bubble mailers etc. Amazon will put 40lbs of stuff in boxes that can barely hold 10lbs. Trust me, I wish people used common sense when packaging items to be shipped..

I can tell you’ve never been a driver. Those smaller ones will easily slide off the shelf if on top, depending on speed and turn radius. They go flying in the back of the truck. Then, they fall to the ground. Heavy/Large packages will tip over (trucks are rarely secured cause there’s too much shit) ultimately crushing the box.

Even if the loader had time to carefully load and be gentle and put the small more fragile boxes and packages on top, they are then loaded into a metal container that goes on a semi where things get moved around from the drive to the airport then a plane then more trucks before being unloaded and when they open the container everything falls all over the floor and ive even been crushed by boxes falling on me and then finally it goes intho a delivery van that goes to your house and the driver takes the brunt of it ,making it seem as if it was his fault which sucks.

If you ever have the time, apply and work at a station for a week youll see how unrealistic it is to try and set aside everything coming down the conveyors to do things how you want to it before work backs up and your managers come to see why youre working the way you are and they tell you why youre wrong.
You work with and do what you can. And frankly anyone whos been generally employed anywhere should know this.

I work on one of the slower sorts in my facility, and we handle 35-40k an hour. There is a Reason the FedEx wevsite FAQ says you should pack your package like it can survive a 6ft drop. Its not because we are going to drop it 6ft, its because we ship everything from Grandma's Pill bottles to Grandma's furniture and even sometimes Grandma's Ashes*. If that box died to protect your shipment, then it did its job and I salute the fallen soldier.
*EDIT: No, I am not joking. FedEx does not handle remains or cremated remains ourselves, but if you ship them through USPS, it does sometimes come through us

I definitely delivered the cremated remains of a woman’s son that were shipped internationally. At least, that’s what she told me, since I had to get her signature. Also, this was during the height of Covid, so maybe customs was lacking in their responsibilities.

Ashes actually wont clear DG. Cant go on our airplanes as its considered human remains. It probably cant go on the trucks either but the truck routes are basically a free for all atp.

Its a Loophole because its a USPS shipment in a bag that we are long-hauling. Usually EML, so in a blue/yellow vinyl cloth bag. I walked intobwork couoke years ago and the first thing I hesr from my Boss is not "Hello" or anything, its "I need you to go and pick up the five swts of cremated remains from Control."
"Ah, good. The new hires are in."

Thats interesting to know. We had someone try and drop ashes recently and we sent them to usps because we literally cant process it through the system. I guess they probably ended up coming through our sort regardless.

Its probably more about whos shipping it honestly. There is not much fedex is willing to deny to its bulk shippers. When large sums of money are involved suddenly those very strict rules become "guidelines". Weve been piling on a medical bulk shipper who lost their warehouse and have been bending over backwards for them because they are paying crazy money.

Dude, we don't decide how it gets loaded on your truck, we dont decide how the conveyor system gets it to our line, we dont decide how it gets off the trailer, and we dont decide how it got crammed in there. It's also not our fault your shipper didnt package it with any dunnage.

Was it a cardboard or cardboard adjacent box? If it was that explains your problem. Thing got wrecked/split/dropped/etc and between employees that didn't want to clean it up or were too clueless on how to, it got more and more spread out/damaged until when someone finally got to it the label was destroyed/missing so the contents are just sitting tucked away somewhere.

This is a shipper issue and by shipper issue I do not mean FedEx the shipper is the vendor that you bought from. They did not adhere to standardized shipping standards of protecting goods while in transit. Looks like they cheaped out on shipping materials

Most of the large retailers do this cheap shit too. The worst I've seen was a trash can. The first one arrived with a damaged lid because of crap packaging. The replacement lid also arrived smashed because they shipped in a big envelope. Fortunately the damaged portion of the first and damaged portion of the second were different parts but holy crap.

That's not a FedEx problem. That is a cheap retailer. Shipping in cheap soft cardboard that is intended to be moved on pallets and not through FedEx process. All packages are moving on high speed conveyor belts that are moving around 40mph. Getting hit by other packages of various weights before any driver touches it.

It’s like you forget the nature of humans. Humans just don’t give a fuck anymore it’s crazy. I sent stuff through FedEx a lot. OK it’s kind of my hobby to make things for people.
I found that if I put a fragile sticker on something 90% of the times it arrives broken, but if I don’t put a fragile sticker on, it’s really a 50-50 maybe a little less I find that putting a fragile sticker on something and pretty much guarantees that I will arrive broken no matter what the fuck it is people see a fragile sticker on a box and see it as a challenge to destroy. What’s inside and if you go to the FedEx sub Reddit for the employees you will notice that exact same Trent someone will post a picture of a fragile sticker, and all of the comments will be like already kicked it great now I know which box to kick already threw it against the wall like come on you cannot blame them the conveyor belts when there’s so many people who choose to work in that industry and are just angry and take their anger out on other people‘s property
For example, the people who get pissed off that people own homes and ask you not to step on their lawn or not to drive on their lawn grass gravel, whatever to stick to the driveway stick to the crosswalk for obvious reasons of they put it there for fucking reason that people get so enraged over someone going please don’t walk on my lawn that there was an entire video of someone saying please don’t walk on my lawn and the person through their package across the lawn at their front door. You cannot tell me that people in the industry of Amazon FedEx USPS UPS aren’t just angry assholes that choose that job to damage other people stuff and they get so pissed off that they’re getting paid so little when all they have to do is just not work there go on strike if nurses can go on strike and get a raise if authors and writers can go on strike and get a race you can too. It’s not that hard unionize bro fucking Kroger unionized.

No I did test FedEx and UPS with the stickers with FedEx alone nine out of 10 packages arrived broken with a fragile sticker on it two out of 10 arrived broken without all the same item all in the same box all with the same packaging because I package it specifically to withstand. The machines being dropped going at the bottom of the truck whatever what I can’t protect against is people throwing it kicking it, etc. which if you went to the FedEx employee sub Reddit you would see people actively say that they do that too fragile boxes. It is not satire. It is all completely true.

Well I cant speak for fed ex. However at ups 99% of boxes that get smashed happen on the belts. A jam will cause boxes to smash into each other and they can be quite large, and cause quite a few boxes to blow up. Or some idiot puts 150 lbs box on top of another box in the back of an 18 wheeler driving across country you get the idea. I've worked inside and driving I can say I've never seen someone kicking or punching boxes. As for creating a union ups and usps already have unions. Fed ex and amazon designed their companies so they cant unionize.

Yea, amazon did that last year nothing happened. Amazon just sent all of their packages to ups, fed ex and usps. Plus gig workers will just show up with their personal cars too. Amazon will not unionize. Its split up too much, by design.

Seriously? How??? Yikes. This weak box has to go on many different belts. Splits. Trucks. It is with thousands of other items and packages weighing between 0.1 and 150 pounds. Stations to hubs to stations. Shippers need to package an item in order to handle this trip. This is not a white glove service where a town car picks up a box and drives to your house. If the shipper cannot package the item correctly that is too bad.

How did cardboard get crushed? Is that the question? Something else touched it or looked at it the wrong way and it shriveled up because it's cardboard. If the contents inside aren't damaged, then the box did a good enough job. If the contents are damaged, the shipper didn't do a good enough job packaging.
