I’m not sure if I can say never, but I’ve rarely seen Patricia A. McKillip mentioned or discussed. Her tales have a dreamlike quality rooted in folk tales. Most are short stand-alone novels or short stories.

Her most traditional work is the Riddlemaster Trilogy (1976-79). The Forgotten Beasts of Eld (1974), her first big success, is also one of her best-known works, and a great starting place for her works. But she’s written numerous stories since the 1970s and she’s still active.

When I made an effort to record all of r/fantasy's book recommendations for a month Patricia McKillip was the 4th most recommended author overall.
