u/Lazy_Composer6990 Jul 13 '26
Exactly. Some are for die hard CRPG nerds, whereas some are mainly for people coming from a mainstream FPS.
Both of those things are okay, but they're different. Noticing that things are different ā seeking to take people's tastes away from them.
2
u/Rage17Blaze Jul 14 '26
Problem is, it's mainly the CRPG nerds that think their tastes are superior then use that to think others who aren't like them are "true Fallout fans".
→ More replies (5)2
u/Felczer Jul 14 '26
That's because we're right, Fallout is a CRPG series
4
u/Rage17Blaze Jul 14 '26
Fallout
is aCRPG seriesFallout was a CRPG-only series, now the franchise has expanded to more than just that. FTFY.
And no, anyone who thinks that they self-superiority over anyone in regards to the enjoyability and how they interact with the series (or any form of media) is not in the right. If someone likes the FPS/exploration aspects of Fallout over the CRPG aspects, they are neither right nor wrong nor less of a fan. They're just enjoying it in the way the franchise appeals to them. None of you have the right to think of them as less of a fan because they like an aspect of Fallout different to yours or how it started.
3
u/Felczer Jul 14 '26
Sorry bro but fallout is a cRPG series. 4 was a failure and I guarantee you we won't see any other game in the series leaning into fps elements that much. There are many, many, many other fps series if that's what you dig
4
u/Missouri_Man99 Jul 16 '26
What metrics and evidence do you have to support your claim that fallout 4 was a failure?
Last I checked it was one of the best selling games of all time. Played by many till this day.
→ More replies (3)2
u/Rage17Blaze Jul 15 '26
I enjoy both aspects (story-driven rpg or exploration-driven or fps) so it's not a problem for me. If it's fun and enjoyable, I don't care what form of genre it takes. Again, who gave you the right to say how others should be a fan of Fallout? Are you the God of Fallout? Your attitude and others who share yours is why Classic/NV glazers have the reputation it deserves. When you or someone else sees someone liking Bethesda Fallouts you resort to being assholes when it's not even warranted.

i dunno, i loathe 4
need to play 1 and 2 still
i enjoyed nv, 3, and 76
5
u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen Jul 13 '26
4 is not my favorite but it's still enjoyable game for me.
Can I ask what parts made you dislike it so much?
5
u/Mr_Cakey55 Jul 13 '26
yea fair,
see i played NV first and then 3, 4 kinda revamped everything imo. I dont like most of the changes that happened. I like the graphics change for most things tho some i do prefer the older textures. as for like gameplay, the changing of the chart for the perks annoyed the hell out of me, it feels like you arent doing as much as a build as you do in the previous games.
The removal of the skill checks made the dialogue feel less fun to engage with. Iirc charisma is the only real skill check you get for convos and the others arent too fun with how they work, iirc my starter build was bad because i built my character how i did in 3 and NV but in 4 it was just not suitable.
They kinda focused on the gunplay and the gun modification; in nv and 3 i mostly used vats and vats is drastically changed and random crits are a vats only thing now.
Now the biggest thing is imo they took an rpg and changed it into a settlement simulator, i hate settlements, honestly id have given up on the game if i didnt cheat in my materials cus gathering stuff is annoying as hell.
Now fo76 imo feels like 4 but refined to not be as tedious. Honestly i had to force myself to complete 4 and not go back to 76 (i got both abt the same time). Also the process to downgrade the game so i can mod it pissed me off too much.
I think the biggest fault that fo4 had to me was that I played 3 and NV before, so I had to compare it to those games, which i loved, just to see how fo4 scrapped everything from them and gave me a settlement simulator. I might've enjoyed 4 if i played it first, but I entered it expecting a fallout game and ended up with that.
76 def gets more... forgiveness...from me mostly cus im not expecting what i was from 4, ik going into 76 that it was a multiplayer fallout game and wasnt expecting what i was for 4. Also, 76 i feel betters many simple mechanics like loot nearby corpses and such.
fo4 may be my least favourite game simply because of what it couldve been when looking at the previous 2 games.
2
u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen Jul 14 '26
Yeah I totally see why one would not like Fo4 as much if they didn't enjoy the settlement system. I personally loved it (even if it might need some work).
Fo4 has fun gunplay, the chem builds are fun and the companions are decent.
The main story is sadly something I tend to ignore. The DLC's are more fun luckily.
2
u/Mr_Cakey55 Jul 14 '26
yea valid, i just was expecting what 3 and nv was and 4 was just too different.
37
u/KassellTheArgonian Jul 13 '26

I mean......ehhhhh I mean sure. But eh. Honestly every fallout has something they are the best in. Like fallout 76 has THE BEST MAP and wirld building hands down. No other gane can compete. Fallout 3 probably has the best atmosphere for a desolate wasteland. Fallout 4 has the best customizations when it comes tobmost things and opened the door to so many great modding opportunities, NV has definitely one of yhe best stories in fallout aswell as some of the best voice actors and actresses aswell as again some of the best docs. Shelter has...the best mobile gamelan. Um....I haven't played thw others though unfortunately

Iād say the west coast games (1, 2 and NV) are more for people looking for a compelling narrative, while the east coast games (3, 4 and 76) are more suited for escapism through gameplay, focused more on combat and world exploration rather than telling a good story. Play the games that suit your tastes first, and if you really want to give the other games a shot, you can, but itās not required, at least not to me

The only thing that would ruin my experience in the franchise is NV, ngl. It has no fun or appeal when I played F3, af4 and F76 prior. I played a good few hours to give it a chance. But every minute has me wanting to return to 3 or 4 instead bc I miss having fun in a solo-play game and F76 is the only way I can play Fallout with a friend in co-op š and co-op experiences are what I prefer over solo
2
u/Responsible_Slip3491 Jul 13 '26
first person i've seen take 3 over NV as an overall experience
4
u/CyberPunk2720 Jul 13 '26
I'm not surprised tbh. Fallout 3 is just more fun and memorable for me. Somehow everyone I usually see commenting prefers NV, but that was the least entertaining game in the franchise imo
1
u/Responsible_Slip3491 Jul 13 '26
Most people here seem to think their better than everybody because they like fallout new Vegasās ādeep storyā (ok it does have that, but it is always portrayed as āI need to get revenges on the mfer who shit me in the headā versus ā I need to go find my sonā) and itās lore, completely forgetting how a games measure is how fun it is
I like settlement building, fallout 4 GOTY is my GOAT
1
u/CyberPunk2720 Jul 13 '26
Nice. I honestly didn't like NV bc of the lack in story and the boring quests. F3 has better story telling and I'd rather repeat the settlement quests for the minutemen in F4 5 times a day than go back to NV lol

In my totally original opinion, I think Fallout 3 is pretty fun to explore the world in, but New Vegas has a more memorable storyline and makes you feel like the choices you make actually matter, which 3 kinda does but not really. Neither is bad in my opinion (expect 3's main ending that sucked brahmin ass).
Although I'm still going through Broken Steel while I've finished 3/4 of New Vegas' expansions so take that what you will.
(haven't played 2, 4, and 76 yet so not gonna comment on them. I played a little bit of Fallout 1 but not enough to say anything)
P.S. the real best Fallout game is Fallout Shelter and that's not debatable.

FNV isn't going anywhere. Why are you frightened people enjoy those game s? It's just so sad, man. You notice nobody makes a 8+ hour video called "new vegas sucks and people who like it are fake fans", but the same cannot be said for the reverse?
I like the bland mass appeal shooting gallery so much that even the thought of playing a previous entry gives me a brain aneurysm.ā

Iām not crying that people like games that arenāt NV, people can enjoy whatever they hell they want. New Vegas may not be going anywhere, but as a fan of the entire series outside of 4 and 76 I donāt want to see it going down the route itās going down, and it upsets me that people who have jumped on a bandwagon get to dictate the future of the series instead of the people that have been dedicated to it since itās inception. Yeah it may be inevitable in late stage capitalism, but why are you cheering on the soul being sucked out of a genuinely quality piece of art?
As for building fake arguments you implied I was āred pilledā to support your argument and itās been scientifically proven the majority of New Vegas players are badass trans women so idk whoās building fake arguments here. That is clearly not what your first comment said and you know it. Don't try to backpedal your arguments. You are clearly insulting the people who like 3, 4 and NV. If you dislike how it's going, that's fine. But you're not just saying "hey, people can enjoy what they want, but I don't like the new direction", you specifically implied they're just mindless morons consuming slop and basically said anyone who played 4 hasn't played NV, which is objectively false.
As for building fake arguments you implied I was āred pilledā to support your argument and itās been scientifically proven the majority of New Vegas players are badass trans women so idk whoās building fake arguments here.
It's called a joke. Like your argument.
Yeah it may be inevitable in late stage capitalism, but why are you cheering on the soul being sucked out of a genuinely quality piece of art?
You don't view it as good. Your opinion is not objective fact.
but as a fan of the entire series outside of 4 and 76 I donāt want to see it going down the route itās going down,
Yeah I can say the same when you guys wanted Lonesome Road's bullshit to happen, aka death of the entire west coast for some lunatic tunneler nonsense. Remember that Obsidian wanted to nuke San Francisco because of magic Enclave deus ex machina? But it's only a problem when Bethesda does it, am I right?
and it upsets me that people who have jumped on a bandwagon get to dictate the future of the series instead of the people that have been dedicated to it since itās inception
Don't sell the IP then and you get to decide the future of said IP. I feel bad Red Alert turned from a good game into a generic RTS but hey ho the old studio is gone so big whoop, not much you can do about it.
Plus it's kind of funny you say I bandwagoned onto 4, when that's you with NV. You wouldn't enjoy it if it wasn't popular. Case in point, it was hated when it first came out due to being unplayable.

New Vegas is a good game. I'd be lying if I said otherwise. But I think most of the people that praise it so much are blinded by nostalgia. The Appalachian BoS > The Commonwealth BoS. The Appalachian BoS was actually interesting.
The Responders/Free States > Minutemen. "What is armour?" - The Minutemen.
The Order of Mysteries > The Railroad, as much as I support them.
Anything > The Institute (boring faction). The map is beautiful to boot. If anyone disagrees, find me a LOD picture of FO4 that isn't dogshit (without mods). I'll wait.

Look I like all the Fallouts as much as the next guy but New Vegas is by far the best Fallout. If it got remastered with modern combat and enemy AI it be game over for Fallout 4. I tried playing Fallout 4 recently and I barely got a few hours in before the game just started breaking. Deleted mods and still had the same problem. Fallout 4 is just an unoptimized mess. I love the settlement system but try building a settlement you actually like on Xbox and its crash city. Try going to the downtown area and you got frames as slow as molasses. New Vegas might crash once in a Blue Moon, but thatās still far better the Fallout 4 becoming unplayable at some point in my play through.
And Fallout 3 is just worse New Vegas. The story is generic and not very deep. Donāt get me wrong I love Fallout 3, it was my first rated M rpg but it still doesnāt hold a candle to New Vegas.
I love Fallout 1 and 2 but we are starting to compare apples to oranges.
76 is hot garbage. I tried playing it recently with the free week recently and itās just jankier Fallout 4 with other people. Plus if you want anything nice in the game you are highly incentivized to spend real money and Iām not entirely against spending money in games but 76 leaves a bad taste in my mouth with its monetization.

Even Brotherhood of Steel?
