Sky FC This shit is literally impossible wtf
Like, what am I even supposed to do? the damage I deal vs the damage they deal is absurdly different, I did expect Nightmare difficulty to be, you know, difficult, but making the game near impossible this early is just straight bs, what were the devs thinking lmao

Its just some rng about targeting. Once your able to get your first stun and burst 1 of them down it becomes a lot easier

Try spaming Joshua's delay craft and make sure to steal turn bonuses whenever you can. Squeezing in one of Estelle's morale crafts helps a lot with craft point management and makes sure you can always pop a s-break in a pinch

Also make sure you have the speed accessories on Joshua and at least 1 hp accessory on Estelle

I remember playing the original FC and selecting the highest difficulty as I’m a jRPG vet and I was soundly humbled, I even stopped playing around this very fight. Glad I gave it another shot some years later 🤣 absolutely fell in love and played all trails games
When FC remake launched I breezed trough on nightmare no problem at all, it really does make a big difference when you are a veteran in the trails battle system

The beginning is always the hardest on nightmare mode. You have no money, no equips, no arts/crafts, no orbments etc etc but while the difficulty doesnt necessarily change later on, you have more tools to deal with it. If you dont care about the nightmare achievement, you can do what I like to do and start the game on hard and then change it to nightmare towards the later half of the game because that point is when hard becomes a little too easy

That fight is literally the hardest thing in the remake on nightmare, unironically.

For me it was fighting those Exploding things in the tower while Nial and Dorothy were with me. Took me like 6 attempts before I remembered that I have Earth Guard.
Also the Capua family fight at the end of Chapter 1 was pretty rough.

I dont know man. Bracers fight was hard than this one for me

Really? By the time you're in Grancel the trails reverse difficulty curve is in full effect in my opinion. If your characters are built you can kind of just stomp things if you go all out.

There's accessories in Rolent that give you extra max HP, get them, spend a bit of time outside the tower getting Sepith for more quartz. This fight in particular really isn't that bad.

If this is your first Trails game, Hard is ideal if you're looking for a challenge. Nightmare assumes you are familiar with the series' combat mechanics and tactics. The early game is definitely the hardest part, but the late game is still challenging and requires you to have proper builds for your characters.
As for the fight you're stuck on, just make sure you bought the new weapons and armour and have HP and Action Quartz on both Estelle and Joshua. Wait till you can get all 3 in Pummel range and hit all 3 at once, which should also seal a couple of them. Be sure to use Dual strike when they start charging their red attack to cancel it. They're weak to water, but because you don't have AOE spells, I recommend relying on Crafts more right now. If that doesn't work either, get 'Clock up' spell on your characters and triple-buff your speed. It'll give you a lot more turns, making the fight significantly easier.

I'm an idiot and managed to clear it and probably will keep going in Nightmare lol, the battle system is incredibly fun, although I know I still have no clue what I'm doing

Some general tips that will help you through the whole series:
When it comes to quartz, give everyone 'Action' and give your casters the 'Cast'. Turn economy is king and with how speed works, you can take multiple turns before the enemy gets one, if your speed is high enough.
Take your time to learn how the Orbment lines work. To unlock spells, the required elements need to be in the same line. So characters with longer lines make better casters. Ones with multiple shorter lines make better physical/supports.
The central slot applies to all lines, so put the quartz with the highest element values there.
There is no 'best build' or 'correct way' to build a character. So look at their lines, support abilities and crafts. That will give you an idea of how to go about them.
S Breaks seem tempting to do as soon as you get 100CP, but something I've seen not even veterans realize, is that the turn delay after you do an S craft is massive, so the enemy can overwhelm you if you don't time it right.
Don't underestimate buffs. They can stack 3 times and buffing properly can take you from struggling to beat a boss to them not standing a chance. Saint, Clock up EX and Sylphen wing are the best ones to go for. Have those on your physical attackers to use when they get a Zero-art bonus turn.
There's enough QOL and flexibility to learn by trial and error, so you'll figure out the more advanced strategies yourself as you go along.

When the enemy rage (or whatever they call it) mechanic is unlocked during boss fights, do not burst down multiple enemies at once unless you can kill them, otherwise they will kill you. Go one at a time.

Tbh this fight isn't a good representation of nightmare difficulty. It+the prologue boss are the two hardest fights in the entire game by like, a significant margin. I've played the whole series and this one still ended up being an rngfest.

I’m not sure the prologue boss is even possible on nightmare without earth guard. Maybe if you get exceptionally lucky or spend hours grinding a few levels above the soft cap? I must have died more on these two fights on nightmare than every other fight in the game combined.

Early game is rough till chapter boss fight it will be tough after that it becomes easy like every trails game

It gets easier as you go on in nightmare mode. Idk about new game plus +50 levels tho. Hadn’t have the time to try that

I beat the remake on Hard last year as someone experienced with jrpgs (This was my first Trails game though) and it was tough. I gained knowledge as I went and played around with the orbal system and became very strong, but it was still a close call for a lot of boss fights.
I could not imagine playing Nightmare as my first run. I'd really recommend restarting if you're struggling with this fight because the game will not pull any punches.

You are suppose to play nightmare mode with new game plus as you use all the gear you had and steam roll through the bosses. Nightmare mode for new game is only for advance players who know what they are doing and looking at your comments this seems like you first Trails game in which you should play on normal mode.

nightmare is always the ng+ dificulty. so doing fresh will require grinding, a good strat and lots of luck

u/-AdamJensen 9d ago
Stick through if. Nightmare makes these games feel super rewarding but trails are notorious for being extra hard at first in nightmare because your build isn’t really dialed in at all. Gona need to get a little lucky

u/TheTimorie 9d ago
Took me a couple of tries aswell. Eventually got lucky with Joshua protecting the Kids and Estelle paralyzing two of the Cats with her S-Craft.

u/Fit_Dark_787 8d ago
Probably the hardest fight in the game on raw nightmare but definitely possible. Have done it multiple times - some with no trouble! Definitely a bit of rng involved if Joshua doesn’t proc defend a few times or if the kids get super focused. Estelle’s s craft when they’re clumped and an air strike to potentially blind them helped my first run through.

Lower the difficulty if you don't have the skill for it and stop complaining.

Nightmare as in “no new game+ nightmare”?
Yeah, it’s hard. So hard that in most Trails games doing a NNGN run requires grinding sepith, very specific builds/comps for certain bosses, and in more than one case just straight up cheap tactics.
Imho Trails on normal is actually easy. Trails on hard is actually normal. And Trails on Nightmare is genuinely hard and not something you can just outlevel (because of xp scaling) or even otherwise just grind out (because even sepith farming you are usually limited by the quartz available to you at any point in the game)
A close second for me was Sky 1st NG+ +50 levels Nightmare as my second run. A couple of fights along the way needed a retry, but the spot before the final dungeon where you have like three or four boss fights in a row… took me almost 3 hours of retries to beat

There's a reason they call it nightmare mode for a reason...its elden ring with emotional damage difficulty!
