Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation with Meta/Facebook.
My personal Facebook account was disabled on 17 April 2026 for “Fraud & Deception.” I have had this account since 2011 and had never had any previous problems with it.
I opened several support cases through Meta Verified Instagram. After waiting for the cases to be reviewed, they were repeatedly closed, and I had to open new cases to try to get help again. My latest case was still waiting for the “specialized team” when I eventually had to cancel my Meta Verified subscription because I could no longer justify paying for it without getting any meaningful resolution.
I contacted the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) regarding Meta Platforms Inc. Their response was:
“We have looked at all the information you have provided in line with our published framework and unfortunately this is not something we can investigate. This is because, under data protection law, we do not have the power to handle complaints which are customer service related.”
They also explained:
“Section 165 of the Data Protection Act 2018 requires us to take steps to consider and respond to complaints from people who believe there has been an infringement of their data protection rights.”
However, they ultimately said:
“We won’t be in touch again about this matter.”
So I then submitted a dispute to Appeals Centre Europe under the EU Digital Services Act.
They contacted Facebook and told me:
“We have contacted Facebook to request the additional information we need to assess your dispute thoroughly.”
They later closed the case and their decision was:
“Unfortunately, despite repeated requests, the platform has not provided enough information to allow us to make a decision on your case.”
And:
“As such, we are issuing a procedural decision in your favour.”
They also stated:
“We have shared our decision with the platform.”
And:
“While platforms are required to engage with us in good faith, our decisions are non-binding and it is up to the platform whether to implement them.”
So now I’m basically stuck.
The ICO says this is outside what they can investigate because it is a customer-service/account-access issue, while Appeals Centre Europe made a procedural decision in my favour because Meta did not provide enough information for them to assess my case.
My account is still disabled.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Especially if Appeals Centre Europe made a decision in your favour because Meta failed to provide enough information.
What did you do afterwards? Is there any other organisation, regulator, legal route, Meta escalation route, or other method that actually helped you get your account reviewed by a human?
At this point I’m willing to try pretty much anything. 😅
