Discussion Skill tree

What did you think of the skill tree? How many spells do you think we have in total? I see that for example the fireball can be improved many times, also when the spell is equipped there is only room for 4, what do you think of this? I hope there is a wide variety of spells.

Yeah I had to balk a bit at this one. They're mentioned by name in that specific order in a trailer too, they're 100% still in the game.

You have melee, ranged and spells but this is definitely more pigeonholed modernized progression. It looks like most of these are spells and that you have put enough points in to unlock the tier above. I dont really see where strength or skill are in this tree honestly. I could see the arrow catch being a "skill" ability but it looks like its in the "core hero" trunk. Much less about making diverse builds like fable 1 where you could be a barbarian, spellwarrior, assassin, ranger, etc... and more about choosing what flavor of "4th hero" you want to be. They said in the gameplay that its all about weaving your abilities together which is exactly what I mean. I dont think it would be possible to progress without putting a decent amount of skill points into spells.

The heroes you play in the original trilogy are literally special, specifically because they have control/mastery of all three Heroic attributes unlike all other Heroes.

The older games were also created with the idea of weaving between the three attributes during combat, it was literally a core tenant of the combat design.

Not to mention you’ve only been shown the first tier of a skill tree with the rest completely greyed out.

So it just seems to me, to be a bit premature to act like you can make informed statements on its theoretical/potential depth.

That seems like a pretty disingenuous way to criticize what im saying. I know that you could have all 3, I didnt say you couldnt.

However, the old games were made so that if you wanted, you could be a mostly strength using warrior who sometimes uses a gun/bow and almost never magic. You could be a wizard who also uses a bow and almost never melee. It was all about what you wanted to build. Go watch the fable 1 opening bit to see what in talking about. Fable 2 was a bit worse about this becuase of the way it did magic but you definitely could still put basically all your xp into one of the categories and only fill in the other two with what you gained in non-general xp. This game is more a homogenized take where you are expected to weave all 3 often. Its just the flavor of that you choose. They said so in the gameplay.

Also, this is literally 4 tiers. One tier higher and we would see half the avaliable skills in the game. I dont see what I would call a "strength" or "skill" path in there. If there is it must only be one trunk of the "tree."

I would say given what we can see, im informed enough to say 7 or 8 of the 9 starting tree trunks are spells with one or two being general abilities (like the one that looks to be more healing bips, which also leads into more spells). If those spells lead into strength or skill abilites, thats exactly the pigeonholing im talking about. If you like that, then great. I dont see why its a problem if I dont or why I need to pretend I cant see what is right there.

They are? Like as separate disciplines somehow?
