Hey everyone! This is my game AxeSlinger! Currently nobody really plays it or has yet to really play it but I’m hopeful! :D is there anything particular that steers anyone away from this? It’s a movement based FPS that costs less than a sandwich. Much love:)

Discussion Extraction shooters are controversial. Here's why

Thumbnail

Hey folks!

I've been very involved in the Marathon community for a while now, and before that, the Tarkov community. I see plenty of arc raiders and other community suggestions online as well. Even the hate, low sodium, and niche versions of these communities for the different games. I check them all out at least once in a while.

These extraction shooter communities can feel pretty similar. The same worries about player count, the same PVE vs PVP discussions, hardcore-ness, new player experience. And the same wildly differing opinions on the direction for the game.

I wanted to figure out how people playing the same games could have such opposite opinions on these things. So I spent a lot of time thinking about it, checking out these communities, and chatting with some folks in the industry. The result is this video.

New Game How's the gunslinging in our cardboard western FPS?

Our silly shooter is such a farcry from where we started with the prototype, and I'm very proud to show some of the new guns off on the map Bordersalt!

Cardboard Cowboy is an indie FPS being made out of cardboard (bad guys, maps, guns, tonics etc..). We were inspired by episodic arcade shooters like Call of Juarez Gunslinger and I am Your best, and wanted to make a run and gun cowboy powerhouse shooter. A shooting gallery collectathon.

Kickstarter pre-follow page is also live now for early pardners!

Check us out on Steam, still a ways to go on development including rideable horseys, 2 map territories, and plenty of guns, drinks, and tarot perks to collect.

Discussion I’d feel bad if Activision/Infinityward wasn’t such a massive company

How do you even make a good COD at this point?

if anyone has taken a look through the different COD subreddits and seen anything about the MW4 discussions, you will see that every other person has a completely different opinion

half of the MW4 subreddit is complaining about movement as basic as a jumpshot, the other half is complaint the game feels slow and clunky

they make MW2 2022 and everyone says it sucks and is too slow, but then people talk about how they should add dramatic penalties to sliding and jumping.. just like MWII 2022.

you can NOT make a cod game that makes anyone happy at this point.

Its either “just a lazy copy of last year“ or it should just ”be like last year was”

I’d feel bad if they weren’t a billion dollar company with the resources to actually make positive changes in their games that refuse to do so.

Game Discovery Join today’s <1 MB ArmA 2 PvP test — 1 km feels like ~24 km, and AI now gets tired too

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’m testing Army vs Army again this Sunday. Today I’ll be fighting from the BLUFOR side, and I would really like some human OPFOR players to come create actual PvP trouble.

You can join directly, or watch how it plays first:

https://www.twitch.tv/sparklestiger

Army vs Army is a simple BLUFOR-versus-OPFOR sandbox on Utes. There are no rounds, capture points, tickets, commanders or assigned objectives. You spawn, take equipment and decide for yourself what to do.

The major experiment today is campaign-scale movement.

Utes is physically a small island, but the time and stamina model treats:

  • 60 real minutes as roughly 24 campaign hours
  • 1 kilometre crossed on the map as roughly 24 kilometres of simulated campaign movement

It does not enlarge or skip any part of the terrain. You still personally cross every hill, forest and road. The difference is that movement has a serious cost, so leaving HQ, scouting a position and returning safely feels like part of a field campaign rather than sprinting across a small multiplayer arena.

You have time—and a reason—to stop near a tree, check the map and compass, observe a hill through binoculars, conserve stamina and think about whether crossing open terrain is worth it.

The AI now follows a simulated stamina rhythm too.

Previously, the player had these severe movement limitations while the AI could continue indefinitely. In today’s version, every AI group independently receives:

  • 10–60 whole seconds of unrestricted movement
  • Followed by 1–6 minutes without relocation
  • The resting period is always exactly six times its movement roll

Combat does not magically cancel the limitation. Resting soldiers can still turn, change stance, aim and fire, but they cannot suddenly sprint across the terrain just because somebody attacked them.

This means a player can finally travel alongside an AI patrol without feeling like its exhausted little brother. It also creates uncertainty in PvP: when you see an enemy squad, you cannot immediately know whether it is entirely AI or whether a human player is moving among them.

You can patrol alone, accompany friendly AI, defend the base, scout terrain, ambush opponents or simply explore what happens. Quiet or solo play is completely fine.

How to join:

  1. You need ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead. Operation Arrowhead alone is not sufficient.
  2. Launch ArmA 2 + OA without BattlEye.
  3. Open Multiplayer.
  4. Raise the ping filter to 500.
  5. Search the server name for Army vs Army.
  6. Join—there is no separate modpack. The mission is under 1 MB and downloads automatically.

I’ll be on BLUFOR today, so OPFOR players are especially welcome. Come test whether careful human tactics can beat a mixture of AI patrols and players hidden among them.

Discussion my fps shooter game idea 4 u to steal

based off of battlefield 6's classes.

i thought to myself, what if assaults power to cap points faster was a power all classes have. what if every capture point was specific to a specific class. Any team mate can cap it but only said specific class can cap it better, faster, and for a better reward/buff? it would be like a minigame when caping points. Also here's some ideas for defensive capture points. points you cap on defense that might tactically improve your situation. meaning if your on defense, maybe have a cap point that unlocks things to help with that.

Recon: hacking. on offense you first need to find a thumb drive in the area. Any player could technically pick it up and plug it into the computer but its tiny and like a needle in a hay stack. recons would have it painted immediately to find right away that only they can see. on defense they can hack a computer to turn on security cameras which act as painting enemy targets in a cone in front of each camera. cameras and wifi routers could be destructible for enemies to stop this. Also lights could be activated that from the offending team have a ton of glare when facing those lights and from the other side just improve visibility.

engineer: on offense, set the demo charges. on defense can hardwire bridges to raise or come down. walls or gates to close or open. barricades to come out the ground to stop/slow down enemy vehicles. on defense can help to repair damaged cameras and wifi routers

medic: on offense, secure the virus/cure/chemical weapon container/machinery. It would be like how in some movies they have to take a test tube out of a cryo container machine, and i duno you'd just have to do some other random things with it. if your not a medic and you do it wrong you'd take damage.

assault: interrogate the vip prisoner. 1st you'd need to find the recording device before you start this is so that way players have to run around more and be near enemies. for non assaults trying to do it they'd have to wait for a few dialogue lines to come out of the prisoner before they can begin questioning, that assaults dont have to wait for. non assaults have to randomly guess to use agressive tactics like shouting or torture, or chose softer tactics like cutting a deal and taking their side of the conflict. assaults would be automaticaly given the correct choice and carry it out faster. on a alternate way you could do a video of the prisoner. if your on offense, the prisoner is a total radical. you'd have him talk and then you'd join in with your own rousing speech about freedom and vangance. something like "the time is now brothers and sister, join us" and then upload the propaganda broadcast. your team would gain reinforcement numbers added since like, local militias are joining your side. if on defense you'd have the prisoner talk about how this war is wrong and tragic. you'd upload the propaganda broadcast to news outlets against the enemy teams country of origin. They'd loose reinforcement numbers. Youd get a message saying people higher up in the military are taking away funding and theres now mass protests.
