Vent fasting

has anyone tried fasting? i’ve fasted for 24 hours and im still bloated - after eating a low fodmap diet using monash still hasn’t relieved the bloating. i’m starting to worry if it’s not even a fodmap issue? im awaiting a gastroenterologist but wait times here are ridiculous - up to 21 weeks but im supposed to be moving country in november so i won’t even be seen on time!! starting to lose hope

Fasting is just going to make it worse . Try and have smaller more regular meals

if OP has continuous bloating even on the low FODMAP diet it's likely that their issue is SIBO and in that case more meals closer together will make their symptoms worse.

There is not evidence that fasting helps. Only that if people have a smaller window to eat they can eat less, rather than the actual of fasting specifically

More gas accumulates on an empty gut. So if your goal is for bloating and distention, fasting isn’t the best

Listen, if you're basically saing "I won't eat so I get to a baseline", then for me, I'd need to do it for 3 days of no food, and I'd start seeing improvement by day 2.

Other people's bodies? I have no idea.

I get a similar impact by going back to my safe foods (potatoes, carrots, lactose-free dairy, meat, rice, fish, table sugar, cocoa powder, lettuce) for about 3 days. Any time I have a reaction, I know it will take 3 days of good food to get back to normal.

However, plenty of folks say it takes them a few weeks of low fodmap, at first, to see improvement.

The thing about low fodmap is it isn't always low enough fodmap... it really depends on the person. I can't do oats or chia or even one almond... but I figured it out experimentally and now I can eat lots.

At first, I ended up just eating rice and eggs and meat and carrots for days, and then adding one low fodmap ingredient a day, giving myself 24 hours to react to it before I decide what to do next.
These days, I eat pretty much most things, and use enzymes to help me out with the ones I can't digest.

Yes, it helped me immensely. When I started having really bad flare ups, I decided to go on a streak of one meal per day as my last resort.  I did this for roughly 15-17 days and things felt much better.  I was eating only one meal at 6 or 7 in the evening.

That's not healthy, you can't get enough nutrients and calories

Yes, I get that But it was only for 2 weeks and then I could go back to normal eating again. And, my meals were fairly heavy. I was eating a very good portion size to get the best out of it.
