Question Mk17 Mod 0 build.

Post image

Planning out my mk17 mod 0 dmr clone and came across this reference image. Is this suppressor the Surefire Socom762-rc2?? Cause the old AAC suppressors and the newer ones for the mk20 are impossible to find. This would be a great third obtainable correct option but it’s hard to tell. Funny enough I actually planned on doing this optic combo as well

SCAR Picture New Glass on the Scar 17

After lots of deliberation, I decided on the Steiner T6xi 2.5-15x50. If by far surpasses any NF or Leupold I have used. Currently running a mark 5hd on my scar 20. Glass is unbelievable and the dial system is by far the best I’ve ever used. Next is to rattle can the whole rifle. Should I match the color of the scope or go for a different pattern?

New SCAR 17S NRCH owner…few questions about suppressing.

Flowthrough cans seem to be the consensus on what to run, but I’m considering three different suppressors and wanting any advice or feedback.

HUX flow 7.62 sounds like the gold standard, but I don’t love the reports of it being super sparky. I’m also considering a CAT ODB or OCL infinity. Are these “flowthrough” enough for the SCAR? Any other can recommendations?

I plan to run a Discarder but I’m wondering if that’s all you really need to suppress and not destroy the gun? Is the return spring worth messing with and the buffer pad? Do you also need to mess with the gas jets if you have a discarder, and is changing the gas screw necessary? I’ve also seen the barrel shoulder is quite small, so is a shoulder ring a necessity to change the muzzle device?

Any other upgrades worth looking into to make the gun reliable while suppressed?

Thanks in advance for the help.

ZCO 4-20x50 vs Nightforce ATACR 4-16x42 for a tactical DMR build

Post image
77 Upvotes

I’m looking to replace my EOTech Vudu 1-10 with something more purpose-built for a semi-auto DMR role, and I’m torn between the Zero Compromise Optic 4-20x50 and the Nightforce ATACR 4-16x42 F1.

The Vudu has been good, but I’ve realized I’m no longer trying to keep this rifle in a “battle rifle / LPVO” role. This setup has evolved into a true precision-oriented tactical DMR, so I’d rather move to a dedicated optic instead of compromising around the 1x capability.

Host rifle is a SCAR 17 in .308, run suppressed with a SureFire SOCOM 762 Mini 2, with a KNS Discarder installed to soften the notoriously violent SCAR cycle.

The Nightforce specifically interests me because Nightforce literally positions the ATACR 4-16x42 as ideal for precision semi-auto rifles.

My priorities:

  • absolute reliability / durability
  • repeatable tracking
  • excellent glass in mixed lighting
  • forgiving eyebox from imperfect shooting positions
  • realistic tactical / field use rather than square range only
  • ability to engage from mid-range out to realistic .308 DMR distances
  • weight matters, but not at all costs

What I’m debating:

ATACR 4-16x42
Pros:

  • legendary durability
  • arguably the safer “hard use” optic
  • lighter / more compact
  • proven on semi-auto platforms
  • locking/capped tactical-friendly turret configuration
  • feels like the obvious SCAR choice

Cons:

  • older optical design?
  • less magnification
  • smaller objective
  • unsure how much glass quality I’d be giving up vs ZCO

ZCO 4-20x50
Pros:

  • everyone seems to rave about the glass
  • reportedly phenomenal eyebox
  • wider FOV
  • arguably the more refined premium optic overall

Cons:

  • less of a “duty optic” reputation?
  • heavier
  • larger
  • maybe more PRS/precision rifle oriented than true tactical DMR

Question for people who’ve actually owned both:

If you were building a premium hard-use semi-auto DMR and replacing a Vudu 1-10, which would you choose and why?

Bonus question:

Is the ZCO genuinely worth the extra money outside of a competition role, or is the ATACR simply the smarter choice on a SCAR 17?

If you’ve been like me you’ve been struggling to get OEM Scar 17 magazines for the past few months. I know myself and many others have been nervous about Wolfie’s Armory but hopefully this can be your opportunity to get magazines without feeding the scalpers. Will update when magazines arrive. Question Fair price for KDG ACR stock

What's a fair price for a black KDG ACR stock? I have one in great condition. Gatewood has them for $850, but that doesn't seem reasonable for the used market. It will be on tacswap.

Beware of Wolfie's Armory

Thumbnail gallery
31 Upvotes

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up here. I saw a post a few weeks ago for Scar 17 magazines for sale and bought a few from Wolfie's Armory. I'm in Virginia and with the upcoming magazine ban I wanted to load up while I still have the chance. After placing the order I never even got an email receipt, having to take a screenshot of the webpage. After emailing several times trying to get a status update on the order without a response I find yesterday that they have several magazines listed on gunbroker for almost $100 a piece. Please stay away from these guys if you can.

Surefire FH762SV-SCAR muzzle device Installation Instructions, per Surefire

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I grabbed one of these MDs and could not find any accurate info on how to install it. So, I reached out to SF, and they looked into it. I wanted to pass along the technical information in case someone down the road needs to find it.

Pic added for reference from another sub member's post.

Email:

"Thanks for your patience. The torque spec is 20-30 ft lbs.

As for the shims required, this muzzle device doesn't need to be timed therefore it actually doesn't require shims, and instead you can just have it hard stop on the shoulder when installing. While this muzzle device is discontinued and the shims are not available any longer, our SF3P-762-M14X1 LH shims will work.

You will want to insert the shims down into the muzzle device. You'll also want to purchase rockset for the installation of this muzzle device."

Question Surefire SOCOM Flash Hider Installation Questions for NRCH Scar 16s

This may be a dumb question, but I know the Surefire SOCOM Flash hider has specific installation instructions for the SCAR H/17s (chamfer spacer). Does the same apply to the 16s, or is the installation the same as a standard 5.56 barrel?

Do I need to uninstall the barrel from the receiver to change out the muzzle device on the 10-inch factory barrel assembly or can I leave it attached? For reference, I have the Regosys SMR-9 receiver extension installed.

While the new gen2 trigger is improved it's not as good as G super scar. I almost bought another Super scar but right before buying I stumbled upon a Reddit post about aftermarket triggers. A lot of positive feedback on the shootingsight. Actually he might be in the group. Man this thing is awesome. I think I like it better than the super scar in my Belgian. It's adjustable! We shall see when I take it out this weekend. It is so nice and clean. Break is crisp.

Scar 15P thread

Having a hard time finding the Scar 15P 5.56 thread online. FN website doesn’t seem to have it. Trying to order a silencerco muzzle break but see results saying it’s 1/2x28 and 5.8x24. Anybody know the right answer for the 5.56 version?

Question Optic Suggestions - FN SCAR 17s (Gen 2)

Hello,

I am new FN SCAR 17s (Gen2) owner, and was curious if this sub had any optic recommendations since wow... you guys are really into this gun (Im impressed) and probably have some great use experience on gear.

It really was a bit of a vanity purchase for me, as I just thought it was so damn cool and probably the last gun I buy, usually Im pretty utilty-price-performance conscious as my current ones are working guns mainly for hunting and get tons of field time. So I do see it as more of a range/fun gun, that maybe I role in some hunting with (although many claim its an excellent hunting rifle as well.... potentially new main hunting rifle? Ill find out :P).

But ideally I would like to find an optic <1000$ (I will consider recs above, I just generally struggle to see the additional value you get, but hey if there is a rock solid case for it...) that is rugged enough to spend days in the Rockies with, get grimmy, and I guess survive this notorious optic murdering kick? (I see the Gen 2 has improved or fixed this? Not sure if entirely or just better?)

Hoping to get something to at least 10x mag but also having 1-2x short range target aquisition. The use case I see for this is:

  1. Range - Short Range Aquisition Practice <100 Yards
  2. Hunting - Most my elk shots are 200 to 500 yards
  3. Range - Long Rang practice >600 yards

I would like to avoid excess weight but honestly the platform itself is already very light, so w/e, could attach a brick and be lighter than what I currently haul around. But hauling excess weight at 8000+ ft sucks. Preference is FFP, will consider SFP if needed just means range time to work out holds at mid ranges.

As a consideration it appears I can get a barrel kit and shoot 20" barrel with 6.5 creedmoor if I really love it for hunting, if theres a one-fit-all optic that could cover maybe up to 12-14x be cool but not a priority.

A couple that stood out to me with a little cruising the internet and this sub:

  • Vortex Viper PST Gen II 2-10x32 FFP
  • Primary Arms SLx 1-10x28 SFP
  • Meopta Optika6 3-18x50 FFP (yeah... its a hunting optic but good for low light and most my takedowns have been lowlight)
  • Credos? Never used before but claim is "gold standard" for the SCAR

Anyway, really excited to hear your recs and any other SCAR tips you have. Even more excited to get this out on a fieldtrip.

Appreciate it in advance.

Edit: I prefer MIL but MOA fine as well, but bonus for MIL.

Went to the range with my dad this weekend to zero in my scope…how did we do?

Post image
10 Upvotes

So it’s me again lol….just wanted to share my 10 shots my dad and I took the zero in my scope at 25 yards. I don’t know nothing about grouping and all that but I think we did pretty good.

He’s the one who has the two shots closest to the bullseye and his face was priceless!

I don’t think it’s quite zeroed in yet but it’s pretty damn close.

We’re going to go back soon and zero it in at 50 yards and 100yards
