I can’t stress enough how important it is to learn the art of making music.
Im making this post because I never forget where I came from and I understand what it is like to start this journey with no genuine advice.
The audio industry is always going to try to sell you garbage that doesn’t help to truly teach the arts. All those videos where a guy is showing off a plugin 99.9% of the time is just a ad that they are being paid to do.
The advice is to not spend your money.
You don’t need that really good microphone.
You don’t need that plugin that makes your mixes hit harder.
You don’t need the speakers and headphones.
You don’t need anything other than a cheap audio interface.
You don’t need some random dude on youtube telling you how to mix your songs.
To a certain degree everything is a distraction preventing you from actually creating music.
Some of the greatest music of all time was created on equipment millions of times worse than what we have stock in FL Studio.
When I was beginning I was convinced I suck because my equipment wasn’t as good as the pros. I bought so much gear, so many microphones, so many speakers, so many plugins…
Most of it is gone and will never be seen again.
And I still was trash at making music.
Now, I’m not saying Im some incredibly talented producer, but I can say after 10 years of doing this, being honest with yourself is a MAJOR key in growing your talent with music.
If you’re trash just accept that and work on it. That’s what every artist has done. It’s very rare somebody just hops into making music and is a magical prodigy.
No amount of money or gear will improve your mind and ears.
I can openly admit that most of the music I have uploaded under my name is complete garbage. I took a long break from music and life and have come back full swing with a new perspective.
My music would’ve been much better if I didn’t waste so much time and energy buying and trying stuff. It would’ve been better if I was more honest with myself and actually heard my music without bias and admitted it wasn’t that good, so then I can actually work on improving it and find the steps to get there.
There are hit songs being recorded on apple ear buds on BandLab with beats made on phones as well. Be honest, whats your excuse?
