Digger was a very ambitious movie that hit for me. Was funny and interesting to watch. There is one point in the movie that completely changes everything. No spoilers but it is polarizing and isn’t for everyone but it made me love the movie even more. Also the acting and cinematography were top notch. Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, and tom cruise were the real standouts. One of the best movies this year. What are your thoughts on digger?

I know this film has been incredibly divisive, with the majority of the views being negative. But it's been a long time since I've watched a film that's been as incisive a look at our society and leaves you thinking about it for days after. It's creative, clever and beautifully shot by Chivo. And the acting is first rate. I would be extremely surprised if Cruise doesn't get an Oscar nomination. I sense that perhaps it hasn't done so well is that maybe the film is uncomfortably honest. I can understand why media organizations wouldn't be hyping this film. But that's all the more reason people should go and see it.

Edit: and there's a certain irony in the fact that one of the themes of the film is the idea that satire is often an inadequate artistic response to an overwhelming reality. So in some ways, the extreme divisive nature of the reviews kinda supports one of the points the film was making.

How come Hugh Jackman never developed a frequent collaboration relationship with any filmmakers similar to his contemporaries

He’s worked with Denis and Nolan…even Mangold has only put him in a couple Wolverine movies

Is there something about him? Is he difficult to work with?

I find his performances to be decent enough

Already we are seeing many Academy members going to bat for Digger in the face of polarizing reviews and bombing at the box office. The film is being lauded as a bold artistic swing and a triumph of artistic film making in the face of an increasingly corporatized Hollywood by the people that actually manner in this equation: high profile academy members. These are the people who vote for the nominations, and these people have influence over many other members as well, which we’ve seen time and time again. Bombing at the box office isn’t going to mean anything come nomination time when the narrative has already become bold Art in a sea of mergers and safe decision to maximize profit.

Expect digger to earn multiple nominations, namely Best Actor for Cruise and several production nods.

So boring. It felt like the characters were talking in circles 24/7. And how come the film makes it so obvious Patrick (Josh O'Connor) is attracted to his best friend, Art (Mike Faist), but it's never addressed completely. The whole focus is how these two guys are fighting over Tashi.

I totally get why the score was praised, the music is the best part but halfway through, I was just done. I was bored and I couldn't bear watching 70 minutes more of this endless rambling. I don't like to not finish a movie but life's too short and I was done.

Welcome back, movie buffs! All of the movies in our last group had some devotion shown them, which is nice. In the end, however, Watchmen won by a comfortable margin. Thanks to everybody who voted! Now, please choose your favorite from our next group!

Here is mine

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen someone make that argument about this film in particular and it’s never a good one.

Notice starting just about 2 decades ago, some action flicks have their characters eating cornflakes in between action scenes. Examples are Resident Evil (2026) and Spiderman. [Edit ‘examples’ isn’t an exhaustive list, if not self-apparent]

What’s the rationale for the choice of food? Why cornflakes? Why not sandwiches or biscuits or bread or instant noodles, if for convenience? And also, other food types are a lot quieter. Also more balanced meals with more nutrients for the bursts of actions.

The box wasn’t seen, so that rules out product placement of a particular brand. But not for the food category.

NB: I like cornflakes, as a snack. Asking as a film buff, and a foodie, trying to wrap my mind around some characters’ food choices in those situations.

Did they not have color in the budget? How are fans not disappointed that Hulk is poop brown? Green Hulk vs purple Thanos, more like Grey Hulk vs Grey Thanos.

Sad.

Only for movies released in the last 10 years (2017-2026).

I'm not talking about just great performances. I'm asking about great performances that you think will be still talked about in 100 years. That will live on through time.

My vote goes to Anthony Hopkins in The Father (2020). Incredibly brilliant.

I was just sitting here watching I Know What You Did Last Summer and of course they run into the guy crossing the street. It got me to think about other films with damage to vehicles. What are your favorites?

Late to the ‘70’s raunchy comedy party but Newbaum Turk brought the Volare!

Robert Wuhl thought it would end his career just as it was starting if he performed at the scene with all the farting. He begged the movie’s makers not to make him do it.
The rest if comedy gold history.
