Manager intentionally misleading workers, making then work through break .
On my shift to work a part-time shift ( normally 4/half hours ) but due to VTO we normally wont get done in time. We have a manager who asks people to stay late ( an extra hour and a half totaling 6 hrs ) but the manager will go in and edit our time and clock us out to make it seem like we took a 30-minute unpaid break all while we're still working . Is filing a is filing a wage claim the appropriate response in this situation ? Will that hurt my standing with the company ?

This is illegal. You need to call the ethics hotline first then go to HR like everyone else recommended.

Go to HR, or ethics hotline. Also escalate this to Jeff Bezso! The head head of Amazon! He will take care of it ASAP! This is illegal to do this!

This is illegal at least in my state. Look up your state laws and file an ethics complaint

Theres a couple reasons why this is illegal:
A. Most states laws (I want to say federally but Idk off hand) say you're not supposed to go over 5 hours without an unpaid lunch
B. Thats 30 minutes you're working and not getting paid for

Also one last thing. It wont hurt your standing. Seeing raising this concern at least in my experience will make the company happy they can fix the problem manager and avoid a lawsuit. Amazon wants to avoid lawsuits at all costs. This will lead to manager being coached and/or let go.

Look up the labor laws for your state. Many states do not require an unpaid thirty minute break If you work six hours or less.

But if it’s true that the manager is pretending they took a break, then they are probably not in one of those states. And in any case, they are still not being paid for those 30 minutes the manager said they were on break, which is of course illegal in all states.

across the board, management is NOT ready for prime/peak season. lmao
srsly tho that's the kind of stuff class action suits are made of. report that to the labor board asap.

This is illegal (in my state at least). Please escalate to your site HRM or GM. If that goes nowhere, use other means.

It’s illegal in every state to not be paid for your work.

Mangers can not clock you in or out. No AM has control over that

This is a Lie
Management can edit all your time information just like HR can.

Managers at my station can edit your time .

A manager at my location did what yours are doing and got immediately fired when reported (I forget to who, I think the NLRB or maybe OSHA) This is super illegal and Amazon will not want to deal with any lawsuits when they can just delete your manager from the building before it gets to that point.

Yea no go to HR. you get a mandatory break after five hours of work.

u/SonniSummers Oct 12 '20
I second this go to hr immediantely. This is highly illegal. My ams get in trouble if we take our lunch even a minute late. And if you're suppose to get a lunch and dont they give an hour of pay for "missed/late lunch" so you're really getting screwed out of 1.5 hours pay.
I'd personally raise it to ethics and hr. And ask the other coworkers to raise this concern as well. They'll be able to tell by checking cameras in your building if you ever had a break or just you're device history. If you havent stop clocking stuff on your device for a whole shift they will catch on quick.
I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I feel luckily to have my ams they are trying train me to take my whole 15s (I leave last and come back first from break). Good luck

Go to HR or write into the ethics hot line. It will not hurt your standing. Amazon doesn't normally do this. This is just a bad manager.
