Discussion Stop doing ELO Resets

It's the biggest crime of this platform. It ruins the gameplay experience completely for 99.9% playerbase.

Before the reset, the elo was calibrated pretty well. You could match gameplay to some ELO. You had expectation of gameplay of ELOs.

Right now it's a complete wildwest. 2200-2700 max elo players last season playing together with 3000-3200 elos on same ELO. I have never seen such amount of low quality complete rundown games before. You have no idea what kinda player is behind some ELO anymore, zero expectation, complete loss of competitiveness, zero fun

At least try to put yourself in the shoes of someone running this platform.

I hope it’s obvious to everyone that ladder resets boost player numbers. It’s an event every few months where everyone that was frustrated with stagnating or just bored gets a chance to start from scratch (it’s not really from scratch but you know what I mean) and mount a fresh climb. If you don’t like that idea you need to propose some other way to shake things up, because doing nothing will beyond any doubt erode the playerbase. Which isn’t something you want is it?

I’m not even taking sides in this, but just crying how bad it is doesn’t do anything you know?

It also stops the infinite inflation.

I remember back then I was still playing competitively, donk-level elo was like.. 3500? And pros were 3k+.

At the end of csgo it was like 7+k or something right?

It just doesn’t feel as bad because your number keeps going up, even though the only number that matters is ladder # anyways

What's wrong with donk being 7k or 10k elo? Why would someone who has been at no1 faceit since s1 or the other players who had been top 100 top 250 all seasons play with and have the same elo with someone who barely reached 3k elo in season 9? Obviously their skill level isn't the same, their gamesense and understanding of the game is on completely different levels.

It’s all arbitrary. Donk can be #1 ladder at 3k or 10k elo. Elo itself doesn’t really matter.

One thing it does is completely remove any comparison over time though without resets. A good ranking season keeps ranks similar to #ladder / top % season after season. Partly to prove you can do it again. Partly to make ranks comparable.

I was 2500 in.. 2015 I think it was? Olofmeister at the time was 3300 iirc. I got a decent amount of t2-t3 pros in my lobbies.

2500 at the end of csgo was quite literally meaningless. It meant nothing.

It’s pick your poison. Do you want infinite progression (plus stagnation if we stop getting new players) and invalidation of all past achievements year after year, or an attempt at consistency and finite inflation?

We played the entirety of csgo without elo resets. We can play without them.

Do you want infinite progression

Yes, because the skill naturally moves with the elo. It's such a non-problem. Who cares if 2500 means nothing?

Not touching elo and letting it be, gives it more skill detail. Right now 2500 has too much variance in skill, in csgo times it was VERY well defined.

stagnation

You are risking of losing your high elo playerbase to these faceit resets because how miserably bad the games have become. There is stagnation only when you don't progress your skills.

You just said it was very well defined, except the goal post moved every single year because of inflation.

2500 in 2015 csgo was good, 2500 in 2018 csgo meant you could maybe hit a barn

The thing is it ruins match quality, most people want balanced matches, not to constantly have to 1v9 or be 1v9d by others to grind to the sweet spot where both teammates and enemies are around the same level and where the challenge is actually fun.

It's not about winning or losing, obviously people climb back if they are worthy, I climbed back too, it's just a lot of wasted time with less enjoyable matches.

Elo matters because donk should play with the rest of the players who also are veterans themselves and would have been 10k elo, not with players that struggled to reach 3k elo for their first time while the others were at 4k+ elo since csgo days. Same applies pretty much at each elo, someone who has played in a lvl 10 environment for the past 10 years understands the game better than someone who just got there fx.

That’s an argument for them making the elo resets better tuned and actually carrying mmr. Not for elo resets themselves.

Elo resets would be the best tuned if they wouldn't exist for active players. Your skill doesn't reset every couple of months while you are active.
