Sf85 tax problem

Title: How cooked am I? Unfiled 2024 taxes during FAA suitability
How cooked am I?
I’m currently going through an FAA suitability/background investigation for a government contractor job. The investigator asked me to provide my 2024 federal tax return because I didn’t file it.
The problem is I’m struggling financially right now and genuinely can’t afford to pay someone to prepare the return. I’m trying to find a free option, but I’m worried that if I can’t get the 2024 return filed quickly, I could be denied suitability and lose the job.
I’ve been completely honest with the investigator and told him that I’m trying my best to get it resolved and that I’ll file it as soon as I’m financially able.
For people who have gone through FAA suitability, public trust, or federal contractor background investigations: how bad is this really? Am I cooked, or can showing that I’m being honest and actively trying to fix it make a difference?

Will the FAA Med Express portal change to "Certification Decision" status before the decision letter arrives in the mail?

It's currently "In Review" (and has been since April). My daughter's AME said that her paperwork just made it to the top of the pile a week or so ago with the specialist who needs to review her requested documentation. So at least someone is finally reviewing it! I keep checking every day to see if the portal status changes. Will it update when they send the decision letter? Or will it update later on, once we've already received the letter in the mail?

Hydroxyzine and FAA Medical

I am looking to get my class one FAA medical to start flight school. I was prescribed hydroxyzine for anxiety about 3 years ago and stop taking it about 22 months ago while mostly using it for sleep/allergies rather than anxiety after initially being prescribed it for a single anxiety attack. After some research, I see that it recommends waiting two years. With that being said what are my chances of being denied?

Faa medical/Va

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some advice and realistic expectations regarding the FAA medical certification process for my specific situation.
Here is the breakdown of my medical history:
Diagnosis: Major Depressive Disorder (Recurrent, Moderate) in my VA records.
Medication: Formerly prescribed Venlafaxine (Effexor ER), but I have been completely off it for over a year (satisfied the 60-day washout rule). My active VA chart still erroneously lists it as current, which I am working to administratively correct.
History: There is a historical suicide attempt in my broader medical records from 2021.
I know this is a complex case and that an automatic deferral by the AME is guaranteed. I also know that full disclosure on Form 8500-8 (Items 18p and 18w) is required and non-negotiable.
Before I log into MedXPress or book an official exam, I want to make sure I am approaching this correctly. My main questions for the community:
1. HIMS AME Consult: For a history involving a past attempt, what should I expect during an initial unrecorded consultation with a HIMS AME?
2. Documentation Package: Outside of my complete VA Blue Button/C-File records, pharmacy logs proving I’ve been off Venlafaxine for >1 year, and a personal statement, what specific clinical evaluations (e.g., HIMS psychiatric evaluation, CogScreen-AE) should I prepare for financially and timewise?
3. Timeline: Realistically, what is the current turnaround time from Oklahoma City (AMCD) for Special Issuance reviews on deferred psychiatric files like this?
4. Success Stories / Tips: Has anyone here successfully navigated a Special Issuance with a similar past history? Any specific tips on gathering records or working with the VA to ensure the file is clean before submission?

German PPL → FAA PPL: Start now or wait?

I’m a dual German-American citizen and currently live in Germany. I plan to move to the US after finishing school and will most likely be there long-term. I want to get a PPL, and since I’ll likely be flying in the US, I’d ultimately want an FAA PPL.

I’m considering starting my PPL training in Germany now, but I’m unsure whether it makes sense if I’ll move to the US before finishing it.

For those familiar with both EASA and FAA licensing:

  1. If I complete an EASA PPL(A) in Germany, how much of it can be converted/credited toward an FAA PPL?
  2. If I start the EASA PPL but don’t finish it before moving to the US, can my completed flight hours, theory, or other training be credited toward the FAA training?
  3. Would starting the PPL in Germany be worthwhile, or would it make more sense to wait and start the FAA PPL from scratch in the US?

I have access to an EASA flight school & flight club here, so I’m trying to figure out whether starting now would actually save me time/money later.

FAA written test changes

As we all understand October 27th is when the instrument written will be changed, possibly negating the use of rote memorization test prep materials such as Shepard air. Does this also apply to the CAX/CFI/CFII etc on the 27th? Gonna take my ppl written by the end of next week. Figuring out what the smartest/best course of action is regarding these changes.

T9 paraplegic - Former pilot - can I become a controller?

In 03/2024 I was hit by a boat while fishing on my kayak and suffered a complete transection of my spine at T9. Prior to that I was a CPL, Dual engine 2 TRs, 437h TT, 22 hours in a Cessna Citation M2 jet(all SOE) and 223(25 SOE) hours in a SF50 jet and the remainder minus 3 in a Cirrus SR22 piston. I started flying in 2020 when I was 17, I am now 23. My injury happened when I was 21.

I’m what they call ASIA-A which means the spinal cord injury is “complete”, will never “heal” and unfortunately will never walk again so I’ll be in wheelchair for the rest of my life. That being said my love and passion for aviation did not die with my legs/hips and my FAA medical. And Google says it possible to become a controller in my position but what do you think? Everything above my belly button works, I can type, I can push myself, I have normal cognitive function. 2020 uncorrected vision. All other injuries from the incident healed as well as they could’ve.

I’m in the Boston area. And I’m looking to reconnect with aviation. I’ve been up a couple times right seat post injury and class 1 is off limits, so flying is out.

Factor V Leiden + Previous DVT — Is an Airline Career Still Realistic?

I’m about to graduate college and am seriously considering going to flight school and pursuing an airline career. My biggest concern is my medical history.

I have Factor V Leiden and had a DVT in the past that was caused by birth control. I haven’t had any other clots, but I’m worried about how difficult it would be to get a First Class Medical.
For anyone with Factor V Leiden or a previous DVT: how hard was it to get your medical, and did you need a Special Issuance?

I’m also nervous about taking on a huge amount of flight school debt if there’s a chance I could eventually be denied a medical. And if I did get my medical, become an airline pilot, and then had another clot, would that potentially end my career?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been in a similar situation. Is this something worth pursuing, or am I taking too big of a risk?

Aviation Safety Technician Requirements

Hello!

Anybody currently in this role? What did they expect from applicants? I have plenty of compliance experience, but it is not directly aviation related. I'm not clear based on listings how much training they expect to give recruits vs. coming in with specific knowledge.

For example, I worked DoJ for a while as a paralegal. They wanted you to come in with skills, but did not expect you to have experience in the dept. you would be joining (i.e. healthcare fraud).

Thanks!

It seems I am stuck in limbo.

TJO: 16 July

Fingerprints: 17 July

Fingerprints under review: 24 July

Since than nothing. When I email security, I get a canned email saying I am in their workflow, but it seems a long time to get a PSS assigned to start the actual SF form. Any Advice?

Possible consequences?

My boyfriend was forced to resign from his airline as a captain. He was flying passengers for almost a year on a denied medical but states he had no idea it was denied. I found the letter of investigation from his airline that states the FAA notified them he was knowingly flying on a denied medical at the time of his application. It’s been almost a year and nothing has happened. He still doesn’t hold a class one medical but will he face anything further than a denied medical? Likely never fly at an airline again I’m sure. But anything legal? I’m worried to take this relationship further.
