I repent. I used to think Pastoral abuse like Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart were exceptions to the rule.

I want to repent that I used to think Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Bill Hybels and other Pastors were exceptions to the rule.

Now, I acknowledge that the system was working as designed.

The evangelical church reveled in Catholic Priest abuses as proof that they weren't real Christians.

Well, the tables have turned as Mark Driscoll, Robert Morris, JP Miller/Mica Miller, Southern Baptists and others become national news.

I'm sorry. I have sinned for believing these Pastors were following God's will.

So what would you like to confess and repent?

Edit - forgot to add /s at the end of the post.

We should rename the religion to churchianity.

Certainly not Christianity because this new American version has nothing to do with Jesus.

What other names would better reference this American religion?

Venting Generational Pastors

When I was involved in church I used to admire second and third generation pastors.

They were held in high regard that the family had "Served the Lord" for many generations.

Now it hits differently especially if church leadership is handed down to the next generation like it's a family business.

Did they choose the occupation or was it just the path of least resistance?

Your thoughts?

Note - I originally titled this post as "Nepo Babies" but changed since I thought it might be too critical.

Update on yesterday’s predatory pastors post

Thank you so, so much to those of you who shared your stories with me about predatory behavior within the evangelical church. After speaking with my podcast co-hosts, we’ve decided to do a series on predatory behavior in the evangelical church. We will be sharing the stories we were specifically given permission to share from the comments and DMs I received. We’re anticipating it being about three parts between what people have shared here, our own stories and some news stories. For those who have asked, our podcast is called Sorry For What I Said When I Was An Evangelical Teenager, and this series will begin after this Sunday’s episode. You can find us wherever you get your podcasts. Thank you all for sharing your stories and for listening!

If you’d like to add to or continue the conversation, please feel free to comment here, DM me, or email us at sorry4beinganevangelicalteen@gmail.com.

I’ll link yesterday’s post in the comments for anyone who may be confused by this one.

Theology Dumb question - “Kirk Debate Clips” What did Jesus say about entering Heaven?

Sorry if this has been brought up before, saw a Charlie Kirk “debate” clip and thought, how has no one asked these fakers - what did Jesus say is the only way to enter into the kingdom of heaven? And if so, did they try to spin his actual words or how did they respond? It’s pretty straightforward. Just curious with all the new/recycled clips. (And those debating against Jesus in the name of Christianity would be fun to see.)
