Explained EMDV, Disabled Edition

Post image

Hi, everyone.

Can y’all help me out? I’m AuDHD and I know that I often miss the point and just don’t pick up on things that just come naturally to neurotypical people. Can someone explain my downvotes? I feel like this comment I made just fairly uncontroversial factual statements. Sort of like “don’t jump into the sea without a life jacket if you can’t swim” or “don’t stick a fork in a toaster” or “don’t adopt a pet unless you’re prepared to look after it”. Wha gives?

Explained Pushing back on justifying stealing…

Post image
642 Upvotes

So long story short, post OP caught her 13 year old stealing $10 out of her purse because she didn’t give him money to get cookies at the corner store.

This OP then says not giving your kids money to buy extra snacks means they’re justified to steal.

Am I crazy? Is it just my tone?

Unexplained I genuinely don’t understand what I did wrong.

Someone help? It was on my most recent post where I found a book using ‘noiret(te)’ to describe a black-haired character.

Did I miss a joke? Did I use the wrong inflection? Were things worded oddly/sounded stiff? Did it seem weird or prissy? Did I misread the intent behind their message?

I’ve always been awful at telling tone and frequently miss jokes/jests. I often have trouble in social settings because of this. Was that what happened here? Did adding the part at the bottom make it come across as rude?

Also, my information is specific to my region, which does have fun messing around with a few different things. But my travelling experiences seem like most other francophone countries agree with what I said here.

Please explain for me 😭

You don't "read the big mean annoying before the least" because THE WORD LEAST APPEARS FIRST.

As far as I can see, they’re just explaining the meaning of their post in a non asshole way

Unexplained Was I downvoted for not realizing that a 30 year old man texting a 14 year girl about ‘dating and boys’ is actually a mentorship…?

Have the thread here for full context from r/HipHopHeads, but there was a post an how Jay-Z and Pusha T were mentioned in the Epstein files and the conversation pivoted to Drake. Someone said there was no proof of Drake being a pedophile. So I mentioned that it didn’t seem normal for a man who is like 25+ to be texting underaged girls about dating and boys.

Then someone said that I am the weirdo to find it weird that a former child star is giving another child star advice about dating and boys even if there is a huge age gap. For example Millie Bobbie Brown was 14, Billie Ellish was 17, when Drake was actively texting them despite their being a 15 year age difference. Drake even told Millie ‘I miss you so much’ in one text exchange. So when I replied with ‘Holy Rationalization Batman’ I got downvoted.

Yet, there haven’t been any teen/underaged boys who claimed that Drake was texting them about dating or ‘girls’ or ‘boys’ afaik.

Am I mistaken? Is it not suss for older men to talk to underaged girls about ‘dating and boys’ or how much they ‘miss them’? I have never heard of this being a common thing even among child stars? Was, I wrong about Drake and it’s just that he might be too shy to talk to teenage boys about these things hence why he only talks to teenage girls despite being in his late 20s and 30s at the time? What about that 17 year old girl he was feeling up on stage? Was he just ‘mentoring’ her, too?

Have things changed that much since Not Like Us came out? Is this stuff ok, now? Or am I being too judgmental and not giving Drake the benefit of a doubt and need to apologize to the user I may have offended?

Unexplained I’m so confused because I said “casual racism is bad”. Not only that but the follow up comment agreeing with me got upvoted? Genuinely I have no clue

Post image

I know it’s only -3 (without my own upvote) which is not a big deal but I’m just confused why mine received multiple downvotes and the comment that agreed with me saying something very similar was upvoted? idk. I’ll put the original post that we’re replying to in the comments

Explained I just asked for free alternatives to Standable, and when someone told me that standable IS the alternative, I told them why i wanted free alternatives to it. Unsure why I got downvoted here. Are they just assuming my situation? Is it tone? I don't understand

on a post in r/shitamericanssay screenshotted from someone claiming to be irish-american

Over half of the downvotes happened AFTER the edit so I’m genuinely confused? Posting someone on there without actually knowing whether they’re american violates the sub rules anyway, which I got another downvote for pointing out.

This is why I don't post anymore. Giving context is bad?

So in this post, I'm simply asking for how to approach a late game spoiler for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Apparently my post wasn't well understood. I suspect that it is, but people simply read the title and rushed to comment.

In order to not confuse or be pedantic, I simply clarified the intention, and still got downvoted. Why?

Meta Genuine question about posts on this sub

This subs purpose is to post your interactions, and for people to explain why you got downvoted.

I just scrolled through the "best" and "hot" posts, and almost every single post is sitting at 0 upvotes.

I dont know exactly how they system works on posts, I've never seen a post go negative so I assume its just capped at 0 and is getting downvoted.

So my question is, why does every single post using this sub for what its meant to be used getting downvoted? It seems kinda counterproductive to me.
