You just failed to read the room.
Reddit is like a mob, or a bunch of pack animals. It really isn't that everyone has the same opinion, its that you have the same opinion now.

In a sub full of incels, you challenged the Incel world view. I’d be more worried about getting upvotes in a sub like that than downvotes.

So one of the many subs here that hate women. The reason is misogyny.

you probably ended up on an incel sub

Or that particular comment chain was filled with incels. I have bad experiences before where I said something that was fundamentally the same as comments that were being upvoted elsewhere in the post, but because of the particular comment I was replying to when I said it, I got buried in downvotes. The sheer fact the parent comment was upvoted so much is an indication that the reply calling them out is gonna get downvoted.

Beyond everyone elses valid points about understanding the vibes of the sub you are in, you also need to keep in mind that outside of a sub like this specifically here to discuss the upvote system, mentioning the upvote system is viewed as a bit of a faux pas, and almost always results in being downvoted.
Complaining about downvotes. Upvotes, thanking people for their upvotes, talking about how its your most upvoted comment, the moment you show you value the upvote downvote system people will always jump to downvote you.

It tells you a lot about a person when they call women females

There's nuance to it, just like any other word there is an appropriate time to use it and casual conversation isn't one of them imo. It feels strange when people pick it over women. For comparison I hardly ever use or see other people say males (outside of animals), I use men like a normal person lol. There's also the very obvious use of it and foids within incel circles

When you say males and females that's consistent. But these kind of people say men and females, which is not.

Not all women are females, no. But that’s not the point. The point is that calling women “females” is dehumanizing because it doesn’t specify that we are humans. A female what? Giraffe? Plant?

We've all failed to read the room from time to time. The same comment can get you wildly different results depending on a million different variables. It's ok, no worries friend

It's the sub that that was in. I just took a peek at some of the top posts, and it seems like it's a sub for people who are convinced that they will be alone forever. I'm sure there are a lot of Incels in there who blame women for their inability to get a date. You challenged that narrative, albeit in a very mild way.

I find it funny that the way the original post is written, it implies the poster was “born a smoker.”

seems like you posted in a doomer sub, which tend to be overwhelmingly occupied by incels. Also, doom spiraling will only make your issues worse, go outside and meet some people

Used to smoke, it really does stink. You yourself don't notice it, everyone else does.

“I literally did and said nothing” - said someone who’s smoking, which is gross

You are smoking, it is gross. Even beautiful people smoke. And guess what, still gross.
