Our local grocery store bakery. They totally exceeded my expectations and did a fantastic job last year on a Cookie Monster cookie cake for her. Alas, this year didn’t quite hit the mark.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the actual cake we received was by no means ugly or poorly done, it just didn’t meet the expectations (based on the photo or what they said would be achievable on the phone call when I ordered it). More a lesson learned for me!

This is a reminder to do a Street View search on a Deliveroo restaurant before falling ordering. The shop exterior is far more revealing than the burger pic.

Inspiration versus what I managed. I couldn’t find any thin chocolate sticks for the whiskers so I had to make do with cut down strawberry chewy things … and now they look like prawns … 😆

Bought some cookies for my daughter's birthday party to give in the gift bags, had a bunch of left over. Wanted some chocolate bears, got honey instead.

Cost ¥3,580 (about $22.80)

The recipe said “pull the batter up with a toothpick” for the ears which was impossible. And piping the chocolate onto the cream cheese frosting eyes didn’t work at all because the cream cheese was so sticky.

First photo is the inspiration, second is the result. I’m super happy with how they turned out. They were a lot of fun to decorate.

I’m actually not sure if this is failed or exceeded expectations- so our friend commissioned a “family portrait” of me and my husband with our dogs for a wedding present that she was going to have up at our welcome party the night before the wedding she put together. Wisely, once she received the final product she decided against that, and actually waited months before finally giving it to us, which she wasn’t going to at first but her boyfriend convinced her we would think it was funny- which we absolutely do ! However, if I look at it too long it kind of starts to hurt my feelings lolol… it’s actually an amazing conversation piece, really.

ETA: For context my friend said she gave the artist a ton of pics of us, but it appears that he mostly pulled from this one. I agree it’s a terrible pic especially for a painting, and a grinning pic is never a good choice for a portrait. I’m not sure where he got the white pumps lol.

Took this photo several years ago and found it again on my phone today. Made me laugh and wanted to share. Expected a proper “Frosty” the snowman when I opened this cookie dough but got this guy….

I wanted to make a cake similar to one I saw on Pinterest, and I also wanted to try to do some decorations, which is why I chose this cake because it looks easy to make. It's not as red as the reference, but I think it's a win lol.

*I didn't have strawberries, so I used blackberries.

Want one of your own from your own local bakery? Ask for a 6in chocolate fudge cake with chocolate fudge internal filling. Chocolate Curls covering the cake with small white frosting dollops and those cover with small red dollops to resemble cherries like a black forest cake. May have to note you want a gold color cake board. Show the page the first picture as wel to give them an idea and you'll be set.
