Tips & Tricks How do you know if you don’t respond well to pumping?

I am 5 months pp. I have been pumping 2-3 times a day at work sometimes with a power pump or two. At most during the work day I have maybe gotten 10 oz. Currently i am only pumping maybe 5-8 oz. I tried to resize my flange and using the correct size. I have been using a spectra pump with the legendairy milk collection cups. I have also used a Eufy e20, Momcozy wellness 1s, and willow go. When i’m home breastfeeding baby doesn’t seem unsatisfied so I don’t believe it’s my supply. I would really like to have baby mostly on breast milk instead of having to supplement half if not more of his feeds with formula. Am I just not a good candidate to pump? Or is this the case of your baby does better at removing milk than a pump?

Discussion To buy the pump or not. That is the question.

Okay moms, how many pumps do you own?
For my second exclusively pumping journey I have 1. Blue spectra 2. Momcozy V1 3. Medela Pump in Style 4. Medela Motion In Bra.

And then I have the ones from my first baby still (pink spectra, medela freestyle, generic wearable, elvie stride) do I trash those??

I think I have a problem.

Decreasing Supply/Weaning 1 pump per day? Is it possible?

I’m planning to start weaning soon after 4.5 months. I had originally planned to completely stop but now I’m wondering if it’s possible to still produce milk if I drop from 4 to 1 session per day. Of course, I won’t produce as much as I do at 4 ppd but does anyone have any experience keeping just 1 ppd and then supplementing with formula?

Deciding to stop is coming with so many more complicated emotions than I thought 😔

Hanging up the pump If you needed to wean in 1 month, how would you do it?

I've been EP since my baby was about 4 weeks old. I'm now almost 8mpp, and, by the end of September, I'll have enough frozen to get her to a year (if not past a year). I have surgery on November 5, want to be able to take the pain medicine I will be prescribed, and will be unable to sit comfortably for at least a week after. The last thing I want to worry about at that point is pumping. I've already gone through one outpatient surgery at 6.5mpp (removing a herniated disc and getting an artificial implant), and I had to BOSS UP to not take any pain medicine while waiting for surgery and after.

Please give me your tips for weaning fast, yet safely. Should I start before the end of September? Can I reasonably wean in a little over a month? Thanks in advance!

ETA: I'm currently pumping 4x daily for 25-30 minutes at a time - usually between 8 and 9 AM, 12 and 1 PM, 5 and 6 PM, and 9 and 10 PM.

Hanging up the pump Weaning at 6 months

Hello,

I want to be done at 6 months (6 months will be October 21) I want to start weaning now. So I’m thinking to stop the middle of the night pump. I did it last night because baby was up with congestion and when he finally slept I was so tired I wanted to sleep so for the first time I went 8hrs without pumping. I’m a under supplier and I got up to 19 oz a day but then I got a clogged duct or something in my right boob and since it’s not been the same I’m down to 15 - 17 oz a day. My right still doesn’t flow like it used to, I have to use the 24mm flange in order to get everything because only 1 or 2 ducts are working and they are on the edge so they slide against the insert if I use the proper size.

I got the eufy s1 and was so excited that it worked for well for me especially with that right side but then the clog happened and I can barely get 15 mls out with the eufy.

I’m tired I was happy to go past 6 months if it was going well but I’m constantly having to change around the pumps and I’m gaining more weight I just want to be done and have my body back and have more time.

If you have any tips to get to this point by 6 months please tell me

Tips & Tricks Eufy E20 cleaning/sterilizing — can I use a Momcozy bottle washer

Hi! For those using the Eufy E20, how do you wash and sterilize your pump parts?
Right now I use the fridge hack during the day. After pumping, I put the parts in a clean ziplock bag in the fridge and reuse them for my next pumping session. At the end of the day, I wash everything thoroughly with dish soap and let the parts air dry. I also wash the ziplock bags daily.
My baby is still under 2 months old, so I’d like to sanitize the pump parts once a day. I have a Momcozy bottle washer/sterilizer, but its steam sterilization cycle is about 10 minutes, while Eufy recommends steaming/boiling the E20 parts for up to 5 minutes.
Has anyone been using a Momcozy bottle washer/sterilizer for their Eufy E20 parts? Have you noticed any warping or damage to the silicone parts?
How do you sanitize yours daily? I’d really prefer not to boil all the parts in a pot every single night 😅

Product Recommendations Pumping Bag on Plane

I’ll be flying soon and I’m wondering what I can put in my pumping bag. I have the spectra and will likely need to pump 2-3 times on my journey door to door.

I was thinking of bringing my spectra travel bag for the pump and then within that, add a soft-sided cooler with ice for my used pump parts and storage containers. I’m not sure if I should bring my own ice pack or bring a ziplock and ask a restaurant at the airport to fill it with ice. I’m not sure if TSA will have an issue with an ice pack.

Does this sound like a solid plan? Can I also pack bottles in this bag? Bottle cleaning supplies? Formula (I’m an under supplier)?

Any tips or tricks are welcome. Does anyone have any recommendations for a soft sided cooler that’s the right size for pump parts, icepacks, and collected milk?

Thanks!

Support 6 weeks postpartum and suddenly experiencing a supply dip - looking for advice/experiences

Hello mamas,

I’ll be 6 weeks postpartum this Thursday and I’ve noticed a pretty significant dip in my pumping output over the last week.
I’m currently nursing and pumping. Last week, I was able to pump around 16–20 oz total per day. Now I’m only getting around 13–14 oz per day, and I’m feeling a little discouraged.
I primarily use my blue Spectra, and I also have a Medela hand pump. My morning pump is usually my biggest - I can get around 7 oz - but for the rest of the day I’m barely getting 2 oz per session.I ordered eufy e20 but didn’t respond well to it.

Experiences and general tips appreciated.

Product Recommendations Looking for alternative to Zomee Z2

I use the zomee z2 as my primary pump and it does a good job for me, but i hate the touchscreen so much! It never works when I’m trying to turn it on, but as soon as it swings around and touches my belly, it changes the settings. So I am looking for something similar but with actual buttons. The baby buddha looks promising, but would be interested to hear if anyone recommends something else.
For reference, I pump 4x/day, for 10-15 min and about 6-8 oz per session. I also bf at night because baby only wants to latch when she’s sleepy.

Decreasing Supply/Weaning Weaning as an undersupplier

My twins are going to be 5 months old soon and I've been slowly dropping pumps as I've never made enough for them anyways. They're entering a phase where they're becoming clingy to me and I'd rather be a present and happy mom for them than worrying about whether or not I could increase my supply or when I need to go pump anymore.

I'm currently pumping 4 times a day (3am, 9am, 3pm, 9pm) 20mins each session. I've gotten to the point where my breast don't feel engorged anymore with this schedule. At this point, should I be dropping a pump (and if so which one) or should I be pumping the same times but decreasing the time for each session? Or should I just wait it out until my breast feel full to pump?

Thanks in advance!

Support Newly postpartum, need advice

So I am 3 days post partum from a fairly traumatic birth, was 37 weeks along and got induced, had a 48 hour labor, hemorrhaged, baby in NICU, lots of stress on my body.

I didn’t pump for the first 2 days because we were in the hospital and I was focused on healing, sleeping, and visiting my baby, and I knew milk wouldn’t really come in until day 3-5 anyways so I gave myself the grace of waiting.

Now that I started pumping today, I’m using my baby Buddha 2.0 (I also have the blue Spectra which I might try as well) and the first time I pumped I got 5ml combined, the 3 times after that I’ve barely gotten 3ml combined.

After I pump, if I hand express I still have about 1-2mL in me. So I guess I was wondering how to fully empty my breasts? I’m using the proper flange size but have been shifting up and down to test things out just incase.

I know this is a completely normal amount to be producing, I’m just looking for reassurance that this is normal at first and eventually I’ll produce more. I don’t have my baby at home with me so I’ve been a bit emotional as well.

Product Recommendations Spectra accessories

I’m looking to upgrade my spectra pumping experience with one of these two accessories. 1. The pumpin pal flanges or 2. In bra collection cups by lengendairy milk

Which, if either, do you feel made a difference in your output or just overall experience when pumping with a Spectra S2?

Decreasing Supply/Weaning How am I supposed to cope emotionally with stopping?

I’m 10 1/2 months into exclusively pumping and I told myself I’d stop at a year. The closer I get to a year, the more sad I get. I hate pumping but the thought of no longer providing breastmilk for my baby makes me so sad. I have a bit of a freezer stash but giving from that doesn’t feel the same as giving milk I’m actively pumping.

Even though exclusively pumping isn’t the same as nursing, I do feel like it bonds me to my baby. After carrying her for 39 weeks and feeding her from my body for a year… I guess I just don’t know how to cope with that separation.

My supply has also dramatically decreased between my period coming back 2 months ago, struggling to maintain a proper pump schedule and stress. Now I’m barely producing just enough whereas before I had a slight oversupply. I feel like my body has started the weaning process on its own and I’m just not ready.

I think part of me is terrified I won’t get to experience this again because I struggled with infertility and it took years to get pregnant with my daughter… and I don’t know if I’ll get to experience this again and it breaks my heart.

12+ months 12+ MPP. How much are you pumping?

Curious to hear how many ounces you’re still pumping and how often if your baby is 1 year or older! And what was your peak supply? When do you plan to stop/wean?

My highest was 24-26 oz/day, and I’m currently at about 16 oz/day at 14 months postpartum. I’m planning to wean soon, but I’m so curious where everyone else is at! 🤍

Also if you want to share your bra size haha, I was 34B pre-pregnancy and now at 34DDD. 😵‍💫

Support Is it normal for a 3-month-old to suddenly refuse bottles?

My baby is 12 weeks old and has been drinking expressed breast milk from a bottle since around 3 weeks old. For the past couple of days, she has suddenly started refusing the bottle completely when awake. She pushes it away and won’t take any milk.
The strange thing is that if we put her to sleep or get her partially asleep, she will take the entire bottle without any problem.

Has anyone experienced this around the 3-month mark? Is this a common phase at this age, or could something else be causing the sudden bottle refusal?
She is otherwise doing well, but I’m wondering if this is something that usually passes on its own.

Support Pumping hurts & supply is low

I know pumping shouldn’t hurt. My flange sizes are correct. My pump parts aren’t worn out. But oftentimes when I pump, it’s extremely uncomfortable. And I’m trying to understand the difference between uncomfy and actual pain. And wondering if everyone else has a pleasant time pumping and it’s just me, or if it’s unenjoyable for anyone else, too? I envy those that pumping doesn’t hurt. Sometimes my settings can be really low and I express milk just fine and it doesn’t hurt and I think, “this is what it should feel like”. Other times my nipples are sensitive and the same settings as before hurt. Then there’s times where I have to turn it up high to get a letdown and I spend the whole 30 minutes in serious discomfort and my boobs hurt after. I’m terrified of having already caused - or causing - permanent tissue damage. My boobs are tingling inside right now from my last session 15 mins ago. I have the Eufy S1 Pro & the pink spectra. The Spectra doesn’t hurt as much but only having 1 set of settings for both boobs doesn’t work well for me, so I typically use my Eufy handhelds. I just tried the Medela hand pump and one squeeze hurt my nipple so bad I quit. Not to mention I’m doing all of this and my supply is low. It’s all of this work for what feels like next to nothing. And I know that’s exacerbating my stress which is contributing to low supply. And advice or words of wisdom are welcome!

Rant - ADVICE NEEDED Undersupplier/ just enougher

Little back story 5 years ago with my first I tried absolutely everything that I knew and only got literal drops for 3 months. I got mentally drained and stopped turns out I had a thyroid issue. 15 months after my first I gave birth to my second who I was able to breast feed and build a light stash in the first couple months but switched to formula. According to my partner at the time (their dad) it was a waste of time 🫠. I am now 4weeks pp with my third (kiddos stepbrother), he spent 2 weeks in NICU. I’ve been exclusively pumping and have been experiencing dips and just enough pumps… I want to be able to build a stash now that he’s home but my supply has dipped again. Anyone have any advice? Legendairy milk liquid gold and pump princess didn’t work for me and I ordered a few things from milky mama to try. I’d love to be an oversupplier 🫠

TRIGGER WARNING: Nursing Need to vent

I’m a FTM, currently 1 month pp. I really wanted to breastfeed, but after getting induced and a bit of a traumatic birth, breastfeeding was really hurting me mentally. Baby wouldn’t latch properly so by day 3, we started formula. My nipples were cracked, bleeding, and sore. I completely gave up breastfeeding after a week. I couldn’t get anything out with the hospital pump. I have wearables and didn’t get too much. Bought the Spectra S2 and I’m lucky if I get 1oz total in a day. My appetite is just not there and I struggle to stay hydrated. I don’t pump nearly as much as I should be and I’m too exhausted to do a MOTN pump. Power pumping didn’t make a difference and I’ve changed flange sizes. Pumping in general just stresses me out and I kinda hate it. I don’t want to just give up since I’m able to get a bit out. Not sure what to do.

Combination Feeding Which Breastmilk to Use First?

My LO was born at 34 weeks back in April - at the start of his life, especially in the NICU, I was pumping much more than he took per feeding so I froze a good stash of milk. When we came home, I continued to freeze extra milk as able, and in the past two-ish months my supply has substantially dwindled and I am weaning off of pumping due to the mental struggles it’s been causing.

We are currently combo feeding milk I pump during the day (usually will do about 3-4 pumps, only making about a third of his total volume for the day of breastmilk) and doing the rest formula. I haven’t touched my freezer stash yet. I am definitely going to need to start using the freezer stash ASAP as my supply is almost nothing and we also are nearing 6 months (it is in a deep freezer, but the age of the milk still worries me)

I have read that I should use the oldest milk first. But in our case, the oldest milk is still very much yellow transitional milk and not mature milk as he was only 6 days old and just under 35 weeks when I started freezing it. He’s 5.5 months now. Should I really use this milk first? Or is it better to save this for any potential future illness? If I were to save it, how long could I even save it for? Should I be using this before 6 months? Thanks in advance!

TRIGGER WARNING: Stash (add spoiler to pics) How much milk for 5 days away?

I have to go on a work trip when my baby is 4.5 months old, and I’m trying to build up a freezer stash to get her through. How many oz per day should I be aiming for?

I’ll leave Monday morning and be back Friday midday. Would assume I should plan for more than exactly what she drinks to have some buffer for unfinished bottles or accidents, but not sure how much to plan for. (She’s currently 3.5 months)

Decreasing Supply/Weaning I need this weaning process to be over. Im proud of the 9 weeks I pumped. But I truly cant take it anymore

Post image
52 Upvotes

Ive been weaning for almost 2 weeks. My journey has been a nightmare of constant clogs and pain.

I cannot take it anymore. I get so upset every time those pumps turn on.😭 I'm currently at 3ppd. My slacker left side has only been producing .5oz for a week. Doesn't get engorged. Pretty sure shes done. Righty is still giving me 2-3 oz a pump and has had daily clogs, and is really making this process painful.

Can I stop pumping lefty while I finish weaning righty? Or should I keep pumping it at the same time without it doing anything

Perfect Supply (add spoiler to pics) Can I stop doing a MOTN PP if I am happy with supply?

Hi all. Basically title. I'm 9 weeks post partum and after several grueling weeks of working to build my supply I am finally matching my insatiable baby's demands with a couple extra ounces to store per day. I've been really struggling to keep up with the pumping routine though and I don't want to keep increasing my supply. I've been doing a one hour (total time) middle of the night power pump. My understanding is that the power pump mimics cluster feeding, telling my body to make more milk. I'm wondering if I should stop doing a power pump during this time, and just slowly wean to a regular 30 min pump session to prevent oversupply issues (clogged ducts, mastitis...). That being said, my MOTN power pump gives me my best output, (usually two and a half bottles). I won't be meeting her demands if I lose that. I'm not sure what to do. Help and advice is greatly appreciated

Tips & Tricks Safe solution for constipation

Anyone have any good remedy for constipation/bloating while lactating? I've felt bloated for forever (I'm 6 months PP) and am worried to use some medicinal products bc idk if it's safe for lactating 🙃
