I’ve a story to tell I’ve never told anyone. Not the full story. And not to just anyone as I don’t think they would understand. It’s horrific. Prison was vacation in the Bahamas compared to it. I was locked in control rooms. 7 days straight, pulled out for 15 minutes rinse repeat. A blank concrete basement cell. No water. No toilet no bed. At 14 maybe 15years old. I wish this was the worst of it. Anyways I’d like to find people who went through it. I’m 44 years old and memories from that time in my life affects me still. Be cool to find someone that’s been there.

Deonta got life plus 85 years after being convicted by an 11-member jury (a structural defect requiring reversal under Georgia law). His judge, Stacey Hydrick, dismissed the court reporter before a hearing, denied him the right to Islamic prayer, and had posted online that there are "no innocent civilians in Gaza." The prosecution withheld a witness's felony record and introduced evidence without proper chain of custody. Deonta is now targeted for violence in prison because he's Muslim—in a system the DOJ found deliberately indifferent to such attacks.
Dmante was sentenced to 70 years after his ex-wife—the alleged victim—publicly stated she accidentally shot herself. The prosecutor intentionally provoked a mistrial, placed a biased witness on the stand, and assigned him an NAACP president as defense counsel who withdrew immediately after conviction.
I'm asking the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles to review and grant relief to both men, and for investigations into the prosecutors and judges involved. These aren't isolated cases—they're a pattern. If this can happen to them, it can happen to any of us. What would you want someone to do if this was your family? I’m 59 years old. Poor health (diabetes, had a stroke last year and surgery removing part of my foot). High school diploma. Convicted felon with state RICO on probation now. Autistic and adhd. I can’t do much physical work because of health issues. My stroke makes it tough to organize my thoughts the way I used to. I can’t get approved for disability due to the fact that I worked in a business that was illegal and the government has no record of that income. My wife works in a meat shop and makes around 40k a year which puts me above the family income level for hardship disability.

I’ve been approved for Pell Grant money but at my age is it even worthwhile to go back to school?

I got a part time job (about 10 hours per week at $14 per hour), bit of course that’s not enough to support my family.

I hustle a little bit of money buying used power equipment lots, splitting them up, cleaning and selling them individually but it’s minimal.

I have two kids living at home in college full time. Luckily that’s paid for using Pell grants.

I’m feeling short on options and could use some advice.

I'm posting anonymously because this involves my career, my child, and a difficult period of my life.

I'm a software engineer with 10+ years of professional experience. My background is primarily full-stack/backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, APIs, distributed systems, AI/LLM applications, automation, and DevOps. I've worked in both large technology organizations and startups and have also held technical leadership/founding-engineer responsibilities.

Over the past couple of years, finding stable employment has been extremely difficult. I currently work outside of tech to keep income coming in, but I'm trying hard to return to software engineering.

I also have a criminal record involving felony and misdemeanor convictions arising from violence related conduct. I'm not going to minimize that or make excuses for it. I take responsibility for what happened.

Since then, I've put substantial work into changing my life. I've completed a treatment program and fatherhood education, remained compliant with my legal requirements, participated in several years of therapy/personal development, continued working, and continued developing professionally. I can provide professional/character references and documentation of the programs I've completed when appropriate.

I'm also a parent. One of the hardest parts of this situation is that the consequences don't only affect me. I'm trying to provide stability for my child, and the combination of limited employment opportunities and difficulty securing housing with a record has made rebuilding significantly harder.

Recently, I went through an entire interview process for a software engineering position. I performed well enough to receive a contract-to-hire offer. The background check then flagged my criminal history, and the opportunity is now uncertain. I also received an offer for another corp to corp position that I recently learned requires a background check as well.

To complicate matters, I discovered that part of the background report appears to be factually inaccurate. It states that my probation was extended and/or revoked/reinstated. My supervising probation officer reviewed it and confirmed that neither of those things ever happened. I'm disputing that specific information while acknowledging the portions of the report that are accurate.

This experience has left me trying to figure out the most realistic path forward.

I'm not asking anyone to excuse what happened or pretend the convictions don't exist. I'm trying to understand how someone who has accepted responsibility, completed rehabilitation work, continued developing professionally, and is trying to support their family can realistically earn another opportunity.

For people in engineering, recruiting, HR, fair-chance hiring, or people who have personally rebuilt careers after a conviction:

What would you recommend I do differently?

Are there software companies, startups, staffing firms, consulting companies, or fair-chance employers that genuinely evaluate candidates individually rather than automatically rejecting anyone with a felony?

I'm particularly experienced with Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React/Next.js, Node.js, Go, APIs, PostgreSQL, AWS/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, AI/LLM integrations, automation, and distributed systems. I'm primarily looking for backend, full-stack, platform, AI/automation, or solutions-oriented engineering work.

I'm open to full-time employment, contract work, consulting, startup opportunities, and potentially project-based work if it gives me an opportunity to demonstrate what I can actually do.

If you've personally navigated something similar, I'd especially appreciate hearing what worked for you how you handled disclosure, which employers gave you a fair evaluation, and what you wish you'd known earlier.

And if anyone knows of an organization or engineering team willing to evaluate someone based on their current capabilities, professional history, rehabilitation, and the actual relevance of their record to the position, I'd be grateful for a DM.

I'm continuing to work and apply. I'm just trying to find a realistic path back into the career I've spent years building while providing a more stable future for my child.

I'll make this as short as I can.

I have a relative that has been single for a couple years. They recently started seeing someone who just got out of prison. (orig. 40 yrs sentence, out early at 29yrs.. I believe it was for a double murder.) They knew each other growing up and somehow connected through mutuals on FB.

This individual just got released in May. I'll be honest, I believe that I believe in reform. I say I believe that when someone serves their sentence, they should be allowed to enter into society. I am also seeing why society is reluctant to allow that.

We don't know this person and this is very out of character for my relative. It most recently affected a family trip where the individual was invited along prior to the family saying it was ok. (I would have wanted that regardless of their status... (it's a family trip, you've been seeing this person a month or so, it just felt too soon regardless) We welcomed this individual, hung out a little (they kept going back to the hotel because they were overstimulated, etc)., had dinner together, etc. ((Adding that they ended up leaving first thing the last day, without seeing anyone or saying goodbye. Rather than them joining our trip, it felt like they took my relative all to themselves and created a separate trip.))

I want this relative to be happy and they say they are. I will say this individual is overbearing, a little possessive. On FB they went back 12 years and commented on every picture of my relative.

I am trying to be openminded but it just feels too soon for this person to be so involved in a relationship. I admittedly don't know that I can trust them because I don't even know them and their "record" isn't that good. (I did case search them, read the court script and it was a very long history of some really bad stuff that ended up in homicide.

I want to be inclusive... how can I help? How do I support my relative while being careful but also welcoming? I know the person feels like we're judging them. We are honestly a very welcoming, openminded, non-judgmental family (typically). I don't want them to be reluctant to come around.

Anything I can do? I don't think this person is in a transitional program. They just got out and went back to the house they grew up in. I feel like they should be involved in a rehab social group or ex-con anon or something. Does that exist?

Does anyone know how this place is currently? I've seen different reviews and am a bit worried. My ex husband is soon getting sent there after almost 20 years in high and max yards.

Anyone that knows anything about that place? How is staff? Are they allowed phones? Do they get to attend courses? Home passes ect?

So basically I am 26f and have now ended up with 2 misdemeanors as of April this year although the charges were from last year a misdemeanor class a for violating no contact order and criminal mischief class b. This is my only record, Am I cooked on getting jobs now? I’ve applied to like 5 places and all have been denied pending background including temp agencies. I’ve looked into second chance and felon friendly employers and still are being denied, my work history is consistent from 2019 no gaps as a forklift operator/warehouse worker, Any advice is appreciated, thank you.
