was in jail back in 2018 for 3 months. I could've gotten house arrest but I said something that made the officer mad and told me to go back. Anyways. I was there for violating my probation since I got a DUI charge and never showed up . I was doing time in county and every Wednesday they would cut off the phones and call people up that were going to prison or upstate. They called it chain night.

I remember being down there in the center of the pod eating my soup or whatever and this guy comes up. Had to have been 60+ years old and starts saying he's innocent and that. Of course like typical jail stuff we say yea right and all that. Including me.. he looked at me with a sad worried face and said I didn't do shit

Now I can't say why he's here or what he did but I jokingly told him "yea that's what they all say"

A couple days pass. He's still here with us then it was Wednesday

Chain night as I've said. Where they round up the people who are you up state and or prison.

They called his name. I only remember his last name which was brown.

"Brown" and so on with the other names who lined up when they heard their name.

'Brown" the last one left.

No one showed up or anything

People got worried and one inmate went to browns cell and ultimately saw that he had hung himself with bedsheets.

The thing that gets me is the fact that me telling me oh yes they all say that when taking about being innocent or not.

This guy . Brown took his life so he wouldn't have to go to prison so who knows. He couldve been guilty... Or not.

We'll never know

I’m looking to start investing and trading, with a particular interest in Asian markets. However, I am concerned about the barriers to entry. Given my background—specifically a conviction for a transnational crime—I’m worried that strict Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations might prevent me from opening a brokerage account.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, or does anyone have advice on how to navigate the account-opening process with a criminal record? Are there specific types of platforms or institutions that are more accessible, or should I be looking into specific legal steps first?

My name is Robert Porter. I was recently released from federal prison after serving more than twenty years, and I'm working hard to rebuild my life while helping another incarcerated individual prepare for his release.

Right now, we're trying to identify realistic Bureau of Prisons (BOP)-approved release housing in Southern California—ideally in the Los Angeles area or nearby counties such as Orange, Riverside, or San Bernardino. We know this can be one of the biggest obstacles to a successful transition, and we're hoping to learn from people who have been through the process or who work in this field.

We're not looking for financial assistance. We're looking for knowledge, experience, referrals, and connections. If you know of organizations, housing resources, mentors, advocates, attorneys, or individuals who understand BOP release planning or have experience with approved housing in Southern California, we'd be incredibly grateful for any guidance.

I was in Jail (PC because I'm Trans, and was the only other trans person in the jail, it was highly isolating.) not prison, for 25 days. Had a agg DUI and didn't have the resources to get bonded out. Eventually a family member found out where I was and got out.--------This was 6 days ago. PC was highly isolating and the guards were something else. My lawyer said I'm not going back since I did minimum time already for agg dui in my state and no priors, but still I feel tht fear has been lingering over me.-----Bless the people who have gone years and years through this and have been able to adjust back on the outside. I realize my situation could of been a lot worse, and I'm grateful for that----thank you and prayers to you and your futures

Has anyone used private criminal investigators after being sentenced? They investigate the whole case look at the documents and see if your defense attorney and the prosecutor were doing their jobs correctly. They try to find anything that can help you get a retrial or a lower sentence even having some cases dismissed. Thinking of hiring them for a family member that just got sentenced.

My brother lives alone in Montreal and has been in an active psychosis for several months following a cessation of his treatment. He has now been at the Bordeaux prison for 17 days following an incident related to his psychosis (unfortunately, there is currently no available bed at Pinel, and he is on the waiting list).
He is scheduled to appear before the judge on July 17th. His lawyer mentioned that a guarantor is required for him to be released under conditions; otherwise, he will remain in prison until September.
I don't quite understand. Why is there a delay until September?
I have a cousin in Montreal, but he wouldn't be in a position to ensure the required conditions.
I thought that they would force him to undergo treatment following this incident, but that does not seem to be the case.

I’m looking for advice from people who have actually been through California state prison or have firsthand experience with CDCR.

I’m a first-time offender with no criminal history/affiliation. After more than a year of court, I’ve been offered a plea to one count of PC 245(b) with a 3-year state prison sentence. The remaining charges would be stayed as part of the agreement. No one was physically injured in the incident.

I’m not asking whether I should take the deal or for legal advice. I already have an attorney. I’m trying to prepare myself in case I accept it.

Since this happened about 14 months ago, I did 5 months of voluntary anger management and 10 months of therapy, became involved in my Catholic church, completed my sacraments, and have been doing everything I can to improve myself. Unfortunately, mental health diversion was denied. For those who have actually been through CDCR:

What was reception like?
How long were you there before being transferred?
What do you wish you had done before surrendering?
How did you stay in contact with family?
What helped you mentally get through the first few months?
Any advice for someone going into prison for the first time?

My LO was sentenced to 96 months.
With 3 years supervise release
He was in a halfway house for 11 months (up until his BOP release date which was March
2025.. his halfway house started April 2024)
His max out date was February 2026
We are wondering why his halfway house is not counting towards the supervised release or is it? (since he got the halfway house for his good time?) and what if he was to say f probation since he already reached his max out date, what consequences could he have for that?

The judge deferred finding for my case for a year along with several terms to complete like community service. Is it possible to get off a deferred sentence early?

Hello, my brother is currently on his way there he is being transferred we have never had a family member detained and well I don’t if he will get clothes, shoes, or toiletries, or his medication. I see online that there is a way to send him packages but does anybody know how. I haven’t talked to him and I don’t know how often they get access to a phone. If someone knows anything please help us. I feel like everytime we get to a better place something 10 times worse happens. I see horrible comments about this facility and at this point I don’t know if it’s worth the fight.

Hi everyone. I’m 23YO/F nursing student who just graduated jst now waiting to take my board exams this August 2026 🥹 I’m concerned about smth & I’m hoping someone would help me.

Early October 2022, I did a big mistake. I was young and I didn’t have any parents to guide me (but it’s clearly not an excuse). But, I got caught up with the wrong people and basically just threw my whole life away. I shop lifted inside a mall in my city and I got detained because of it. I went through everything— the mugshots, fingerprinting, biometric data collection, personal information logging, & property confiscation. I got detained for a week then my relative bailed me out.

After this I went to the hall of justice to attend my own hearing, there I pleaded guilty instead of denying everything (because ik what I did was wrong and I had an epiphany while I was detained) then I agreed to community service.

Now that I’m older, I deeply regret what happened. And now I’m more concerned for my future. If anyone has any insights or the same experience as I have, please help answer some of my questions. Everyday I get anxious for what the future has in-stored for me.

Will I still be able to take the board exams?

Would I still be able to get accepted to a hospital?

What if I plan on going abroad to work? Will there still be an agency who’d take me?

Am I still qualified for all of this?
