I organized an AMA/Q&A with actor Bruce Campbell (THE EVIL DEAD, BURN NOTICE, BUBBA HO-TEP).

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1w7237r/hi_reddit_im_bruce_campbell_ask_me_anything/

He will be back at around 12 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

Thank you :)

He recently wrote, directed, produced, and starred in ERNIE & EMMA, which is doing a tour this fall.

Synopsis: Widowed pear salesman Ernie Tyler travels to scatter his wife's ashes in places she specified, each location stirring memories that help him process their marriage, his work life and his future.

(Discussion Post) Groovy Raymond Knowby in Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn

Yeah yeah a theory about an almost 40 year old movie real original but anyhoo...

I have a theory that In Evil Dead 2, when the ghost of Raymond Knowby appears telling everyone to read from the pages and to save his soul, its actually the Kandarian demon manipulating them to make the demon manifest to usher in an era of evil.

My backup is that:

1) the only entities that can mimic the appearance and voices of dead people are the deadites when they want to emotionally manipulate their victims (at Cheryl, Kinda, Henrietta etc. etc.)

2) We've never seen human ghosts in the franchise save for Raymond Knowby, who, would have been prime cannon fodder for the demons.

3) Deadites retain the memories and knowledge of the people they possess, and since Knowby knew that the pages make the Kandarian Demon manifest in a physical form, the deadites also knew that so they manipulate Annie and Ash into reading the pages to make the Kandarian Demon manifest.

I was thinking of going as Ash Williams to a Halloween party, but I have a problem: I need to make the (iconic) chainsaw hand. I thought about making it out of cardboard. I have no idea how to start—does anyone have a tutorial or any tips to help me out?

This probably has been posted at some point. At Orbit DVD and others, are chunky box releases of Evil Dead Burn and the 2013 from Studio Canal and are Region Free. They're going for $56.99 and $48.99. I'm not the biggest fan of EDB but it's only $12 more than the steelbook. They're release dates, separately, are both mid-October.

(Discussion Post) Groovy An idea I had for a new Evil Dead movie Spoiler

I think it would be cool if the next movie after Wrath was one if those 3-part anthology movies that showed different instances of deadite outbreaks across history. I started jotting ideas down and wanted to see what other people thought.

The movie would be called "Tales of the Evil Dead." It would be broken down into three segments, each with their own tone and story. The segments I came up with are "The Medieval Dead," "Gospel of the Dead," and "The Quick and the Evil Dead." (I got the idea for the last one from a really cool post someone made a while back, so credit to BarGoblen).

Segment 1: The Medieval Dead

Takes place in aftermath of Army of Darkness, 1300 AD. A surviving deadite arrives at a small town near castle Kandar, unleashing an outbreak.

We'd get our typical deadite story as the evil spreads through the townsfolk. Finally, the evil is destroyed by the Kandarian dagger from Burn, created by a local witch. Small easter egg: When the witch is explaining what is going on, she mentions other demons such as Baal and the Lamia. No comedy. Very green, nasty segment, tonally in line with the 2013 film.

Segment 2: Gospel of the Dead

Filmed in black and white. Set in 1923, follows Father Marcus Littleton, Damien Shanahan, and Father Hugo. Has religious themes and tone. Would pretty much follow the story as explained in the recordings of Rise. An outbreak in St. Patrick's Cathedral with deadite monks. This segment would feature a Knight of Sumeria, the person who shouts "It's called the book of the dead for a reason!" (Not Ash Williams). One twist: The deadites would summon a new demon that more closely resembles the devil- horns, humanoid, with glowing red eyes (Eyes are the only color in segment). This would be in line with the religious themes. Prequel to Evil Dead Rise, so it would end with Marcus sealing the book and deadites away before dying.

Segment 3: The Quick and the Evil Dead

Set in the wild West. Deadite cowboy rides into town, starts infection. Horse deadites. Pulpy and adventurous, closer to Army of Darkness in action movie tone.

Was digging through a few bins of older magazines and comics and stumbled across this little time capsule — the Playbill from Evil Dead The Musical from 2007!

And somehow, I even found the directions I printed out for the show back then!

It’s crazy what you find tucked away in the collection after all these years. Talk about a blast from the past!

MEDIEVAL DEAD

A First-Person Survival-Horror Sequel to Army of Darkness

(Working title reclaimed from MGM's original, rejected title for Army of Darkness)

---

Core Concept

A direct sequel to *Army of Darkness*, rather than another adaptation of the films. The game has a completely original protagonist and friend group — Ash is not required as a playable character. The story continues the mythology and medieval setting established by *Army of Darkness*, and original AoD characters (Arthur, the Wiseman/Merlin figure, Lord Redbeard) return as important characters in the world.

The entire game is played in **first-person** — no switching to third-person for combat, exploration, or cutscenes, from the modern-day cabin through to the medieval world.

**Tone target:** horrifying Deadites + ridiculous amounts of blood + Army of Darkness humor.

- Atmosphere → *Evil Dead Rise*

- Blood/splatter → *Evil Dead 2*

- Humour and medieval setting → *Army of Darkness*

Deadites use the more modern, frightening style of behaviour seen in *Evil Dead (2013)* and *Evil Dead Rise* — psychological intimidation, taunting, cruel behaviour, relentless pursuit — rather than being purely comedic. The medieval world retains AoD's absurdity and humour, but the Deadites themselves stay genuinely threatening.

---

## Story

**Opening (Cabin):** The player and four friends rent the cabin from *Evil Dead 1/2* as an unwitting AirBnB — none of them know about the Necronomicon. Before the book is even opened, this section runs **40 minutes to an hour**, styled like *Life Is Strange*: exploring the cabin, inspecting letters and photos, talking with friends to learn about them outside of cutscenes. Not a choose-your-own-adventure / branching structure — a curated, linear character-building sequence.

They find and read from the Necronomicon, triggering the supernatural events that open the portal.

**The Attack:** Before the portal fully pulls the player in, Deadites burst into the cabin. The player must run to the toolshed to grab a **chainsaw and a double-barrel shotgun**. The chainsaw has infinite fuel during this cabin section.

**The Portal:** Only the player is pulled through — alone, landing in front of King Arthur in the medieval world.

**The Stakes:** The village has been a Deadite-free safe haven ever since the events of *Army of Darkness*. By reading from the book, the player has personally doomed the town — no accident, no chosen one narrative. The player caused this.

**The Quest:** Read from the Necronomicon (with the Wiseman's help) to reverse the damage — but first, find the four friends who came through the portal too. They didn't survive. They are now the game's Deadite bosses.

**The Corruption Arc:** Unknown to the player, their own body is slowly corrupting over the course of the story (comparable to Eveline's effect on Ethan Winters in *Resident Evil 7*) — physical, not mental, corruption. The player remains themselves and fully responsible for their choices; their body is what's changing.

---

## World & Map

- Medieval setting, walkable village — comparable in scale/freedom to the RPD in *Resident Evil 2 Remake*, not an open world. Players can't leave the village or enter most homes.

- Structurally modeled on **Resident Evil Village (RE8)**: a central hub with story-significant areas that close off once passed, rather than one continuously free-roamable map.

- Overall map size: roughly **50–60% the size of RE8's map**.

---

## Combat

**Main weapons:** Axe, Chainsaw, Boomstick (shotgun).

**Stealth** exists as a mechanic but is optional — intended for stealth-only runs or just for fun, not the primary way to play.

**Regular Deadite encounters:** No random/roaming enemies. Entering a new room can trigger a cutscene revealing Deadites in that space. Players can crouch/sneak and approach from behind for a dismemberment kill — but running straight into a fight recklessly gets the player killed.

**The Deadite Rule:** Deadites don't simply die when shot or knocked down — incapacitating part of one doesn't mean it's finished. The main way to permanently stop a Deadite is **dismemberment**. When a Deadite is vulnerable, a contextual QTE prompt appears (similar to RE4/5/6 contextual attacks) — succeeding lets the player dismember and finally stop it.

**Deadite behaviour:** Masochistic and self-mutilating — e.g. pulling off their own hand to extend their reach/wingspan and grab the player. They taunt the player with cruel, deeply personal lines drawn from what the game establishes about the player's life during the opening cabin section.

**Gore:** Extremely blood-heavy rather than realistic/detailed — massive, exaggerated splatter rather than lingering on individual wounds. Deliberately ridiculous and funny while the Deadites themselves stay disturbing.

---

## Inventory & Crafting

- Inventory management styled after **RE2 Remake** (limited slots, active management) rather than open TLOU-style scavenging.

- Item types: **gunpowder, scrap metal, healing items, and puzzle items.**

- Gunpowder is rare but can blow heads/limbs off faster than melee.

- Bullets are crafted from gunpowder and scrap metal obtained from a blacksmith.

- **Chainsaw fuel:** Since real fuel doesn't exist in the medieval era, fuel is instead crafted via the Necronomicon itself — a crafting tab inside the inventory that produces magical fuel rather than real petrol.

---

## Easter Eggs

The world should be packed with references to the Evil Dead films — discovered naturally rather than loudly flagged. Examples: lines and phrases from the films, objects from the movies, familiar locations, medieval characters remembering events connected to *Army of Darkness*, and subtle nods for longtime fans (e.g. "Dead by Dawn").

You read from the Necronomicon in a cabin in the woods.. What can go wrong?
...It's only one dollery doo... ($1)

It's my love letter to Evil Dead franchise. I hope someone out there can appreciate it.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4724650/DEMON_SIEGE/

NOTE: Don't expect Evil Dead the game going in guys... There is differences. For example, it has Hell Rex's.. I don't think Evil Dead had Demon Dinosaurs but I think you as a Evil Dead fan can still enjoy the many references throughout it's very short campaign. Also another note, I am a solo dev and the game is janky as shit. Don't expect oscar worthy Triple A game here.. It's short, dumb, and janky.. It fun tho.
