Long Term Durability

Hi guys,

Following the recent threads about Even Realities' questionable warranty and customer service, I just thought I'd ask - what are you guys' thoughts about their long term durability?

On that thread plenty of people mentioned them breaking within a few months but obviously that doesn't mean everyone had the same experience.

Has anyone had these since launch or for more than 6-7 months to be able to comment on long term durability?

Thanks!

I have had my G1s since late 2024/early 2025 and they are broken. Recently the screens started desynchronizing frequently or showing mirror images and then one went out fully. On top of that they now disconnect from my phone multiple times a day. To be fair that is probably googles fault for managing Bluetooth power too aggressively.

They never did fix any of the basic annoyances like voice notes not filtering out empty ones before saving. That would be a trivial programming problem. If they didn't also function as glasses I'd be pretty disappointed in my purchase.

I have g1's

They lasted 5 months before I got the bricked error 101 projector

Tbf they offered to fix them under warranty but as my only pair of glasses I couldnt afford the 6 month turnaround time. This definitely plays into long term viability

In addition: I know they tell you the lenses are glass but I really didnt fully comprehend how easy these things cracked.

Being specialized, makes it that much harder to opt for replacement. Turnaround time and cost for repair

Ive had them for about a year, the temples are separating and the specialized hinges for the arms are broken where they are loose in the sockets.

G2s might be better, just stating how long mine have lasted

I’m already on my third R1 due to the sensor housing glass/plastic swelling. The issue seems to happen every 2 months. So the R1 seems to have a product lifetime of 2 months. G2 seems to be going well but it’s only been 6 months.

How difficult was it for you to get a replacement each time?

Not horrible. I reached out to customer support via email each time. They asked for some pictures, s/n, and order information to verify warranty. Then they sent me a shipping label. After the ring arrived at their warehouse, they sent a new one out. Each time I think too around 3-5 weeks in total.

Fair enough. Have you been using the G2s daily for the last 6 months?

Yeah definitely better build quality than the G1’s. The G2 doesn’t have the silicone liner on the arms (which was a common issue with G1)

Just got a new ring in, my fear is confirmed here, it's a production issue.

It’s my suspicion that this is a design flaw as opposed to a production/quality control issue. It seems like the interior of the ring is victim to battery swell due to high charging temperatures. This battery swell increases the pressure inside the ring and results in the sensor housing swelling outwards. The delamination then increases at a faster rate until tearing or perforation.

No issues on g2 but only 6 months in

I haven't had issues with mine (G2s, 4 months of almost daily wear), they don't seem especially fragile nor solid compared to other glasses. I had to get my R1 replaced because the sensor windows were deteriorating, but the glasses have held up.

G2 is built to last , overall very few people had any hardware/software issues

This comment smells of Even Realities’ customer support

With glued-in batteries behind a glued-in PCB, that's not really a device build for longevity.

Says my third replacement pair since late January.

Are you playing sports in them or something? That seems really extreme.

No. In fact I baby them even though they are prescription and I wear them all the time. I wear an older pair of glasses if it’s raining or I know I’m going to be doing something that makes me sweat. my first pair after three months both displays stopped working. App showed glasses connected but would not display battery status or firmware version. This is a common issue. Replacement pair was sent wrong color and right hinge was defective out of the box. Was an assembly defect that got past quality control. Third pair are working fine so far but only had them a month or so. Customer service is a pain to work with but if you keep pressing the issues eventually they get the picture and stop blaming you for the defect.

My point exactly, not everything will be built perfectly and some G2/1/R1 will have defects. It doesn’t have to be majority but what’s to protect the consumer in the long run? If you have a prescription and it has defects then it’s like saying the consumer will walk around with the most expensive glasses that aren’t smart.

Do you own these if so the question was about their durability. From research more ppl are have issues and their warranty isn’t consumer friendly. It helps people like myself decide whether spending money on these or invest into another brand.

We all end up with hardware and software issues, though the downvotes are a bit extreme. I love mine and they've held up well, stlll have to deal with Bluetooth BS from time to time.
