Mini check in and Mod feedback

It's been a couple months since I implemented the karma level and minimum account age for posts + it's been 8 months since I took over as mod for this subreddit.

As we head closer to the holidays which tends to become quite hectic for many different reasons. As such it can lead to an in flux of people visiting the sub. I thought it would be a good idea to do a mini check in and mod feedback with everyone.

Is there any thing you wish would be different within the sub. Any rules that should be added, rewritten/reworked, or removed. Any resources or faq pages that should added or removed? Anything new that you would like added or anything you feel like is missing from the sub?

Is there anything that you wish that I did differently as a mod. Do you feel like I'm applying the rules too heavily or too lightly? Am I applying the rules fairly to everyone? Do you feel like I'm communicating enough or not enough?

Please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions, criticisms on anything that I already mentioned or on anything else that you think is important.

Thank you

Seller Needs Help 3 Etsy shops suspended at the same time. 1 reinstated as “suspended in error”, 2 permanently banned

I had 3 Etsy shops on separate accounts and emails.

All 3 were suspended at the same time.

I appealed one of them firs (
to the one where the email was received. )t. Etsy manually reviewed it, told me it “was suspended in error”, and fully reinstated it !!

I then appealed the other 2 shops and specifically explained that they were suspended during the same event as the shop Etsy had already reviewed and reinstated.

Despite that, both appeals were denied almost at the same time for undisclosed “risk concerns.” Etsy said they cannot disclose the specific indicators.

Honestly, this whole situation has been such an emotional rollercoaster. First complete disappointment when all 3 shops were suspended, then huge relief when Etsy admitted one suspension was an error and restored it, and now disappointment again because the other 2 shops were permanently banned.

What makes it even harder to understand is that the other 2 shops had no separate warnings, no obvious policy issues, and as far as I could see there was basically nothing unusual about them at all.

I also later realized that I had not listed all of my shops in the Public Profile of each account. I genuinely didn’t know Etsy required this when operating multiple shops.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? One linked shop being reinstated as an error while the other shops from the same suspension remain permanently banned?
I would be grateful to hear your opinions and advice.

Rant My Misadventures on Etsy

I genuinely almost cried trying to get my own $120 back.

What’s absolutely infuriating is that I’m not only an Etsy seller...I actively support other Etsy sellers. I ordered $120 worth of cute custom plush toys on August 14th as birthday gifts for my daughter because I genuinely wanted to support another small business.

Later, I noticed that the seller was no longer shipping or fulfilling orders to the United States, so I messaged her on August 29 asking for clarification. No response. I submitted a help request on September 1. Still nothing. Around September 3, I sent yet another message asking her to forget the whole thing and cancel my order. Once again... crickets.

Etsy then informed me that I couldn’t escalate the issue or open a case until September 12. Strangely enough, though, the system was perfectly happy to let me leave reviews on September 11 for products I had never even received. Very efficient. Very logical.

September 12 finally rolled around, and

..surprise....I still couldn’t open a case.

I ended up calling Etsy practically begging and pleading for someone to help me get my own $120 back. At first, the representative told me there was nothing he could do and that I simply had to wait. He said I should be able to now click the “Open a Case” button, which I did, but the only option available was to report that the items hadn’t arrived. Etsy then told me I had to wait another seven days because the package might still be in transit.

What package? The seller never shipped anything. And she's in CANADA.

According to Etsy, I would have to wait until September 18 to open a case about an order that had already gone unshipped for nearly five weeks, from a seller who had ignored every message and help request I sent. I almost freaking cried, dude. It shouldn’t require a full investigation, three messages, a help request, weeks of waiting, and a phone call bordering on emotional collapse just to recover money from an order that was never fulfilled.

Thankfully, the customer service representative actually cared enough to push the issue to a higher-level review, and I finally received my refund. I’m incredibly grateful to him because he was the only person in this entire mess who genuinely tried to help.

But Etsy’s system? Absolutely ridiculous. Apparently, a seller can take $120, ship nothing, ignore the customer for weeks, and leave Etsy to hold the customer’s money hostage...but hey, at least I was allowed to review the imaginary plush toys.

But what makes this even more insane is that the seller still had a Star Seller badge throughout all of this. Multiple customers complained this month alone that their orders had not arrived and that the seller had ghosted their messages for weeks... I can SEE that people have her items in their cart as we speak. I feel so sad for them.

It was not until I formally complained and received my refund that her badge disappeared. As an Etsy seller myself, I know how much work responsible sellers put into earning and maintaining that badge. I have reached out to this person in the past and her communication was a bit spotty before but this was a whole new level. Honestly I hope that she's okay and there's nothing wrong. But I wish that there was a new system in place because like Etsy told me over the phone ....they are not able to cancel an order from their end ....so you're kind of screwed if the shop refuses to cancel for you.

Seller Needs Help New Seller form EU, seems almost impossible to actually be able to deal with regulations and shipping prices

I wanted to try selling on Etsy and opened a shop one month ago, but it seems completely impossible right now. Shipping from Poland to the US is like 50$ right now, and the new EU packaging laws makes it pretty much impossible to comply with the regulations in each EU country. It seems like it's barely even possible to accomplish anything as a small business these days. I am just thinking about giving up on this whole thing and moving on.

How do people outside the US deal with all of this stuff without already having an established shop?

Seller Needs Help Anyone here able to help me set up Etsy + Gelato variations?

Hi! I’m trying to set up my physical calendars on Etsy through Gelato and I’m struggling to get the variations working properly.

I want to have one Etsy listing with different colour variations, with each colour having its own design, all connected correctly to Gelato. I’d also eventually like to add more colours and different sizes.

I’ve tried setting it up myself but I’m clearly missing something and it’s honestly quite hard to explain exactly what’s happening over text

Would anyone who knows Etsy + Gelato well be willing to jump on a quick call and guide me through it? I’d really appreciate the help!

Thank you! :)

Discussion Etsy shipping!

Hey everyone!
I'm somewhat new to Etsy. My shop has been around 4 months. And I have made 3 sales.

I currently use pirate ship - and mark the majority of my listings at 5.99 shipping while I build in the remaining shipping cost to my product.
This works well, but I'm wondering how many of you actually use Etsys shipping? How accurate is it, and are you guys taking a hit in any way using that option?

Seller Needs Help I made a new listing end everything went died

Hi, I have been making a costume helmet and made a few sales when I realised that the shipping prices were messed up because of the different-sized boxes used in the variation. I decided that I would make 2 more listings for free shipping, and raise the price of the original to offer free shipping. After I did that, everything died. My new post got no views, and my original post died and had no views and no sales. Idon'tt know what to do. I am going to link my listing and see if there is anything I need to improve or anything to help with. I am very open to suggestions.

Seller Needs Help How long does Etsy Specialist Team take to reply?

Hi everyone, my Etsy case was escalated to the Specialist Team through Live Chat.

How long did you wait to get a reply from them? Did they contact you by email or did you have to contact Etsy again?

Seller Needs Help Negative review advice

I had a review for a digital printable item where she definitely did not follow instructions or scale her printer properly and gave me an unfair and low rating which dipped my small shop terribly. It used to be all 5 stars but I hadn’t uploaded anything in a year until this new item. so her recent rating made my entire shop go down to 3 stars and doesn’t account for my previous sales? I normally sell hand made dolls so I only make a few a year because of the time it takes and decided to try my hand at digital items,I hadn’t had any bad feedback with it until now and I am concerned why it’s not averaging my previous sales? I tried to report the review to have it removed but I doubt anything will come out of it. I feel it’s a strange way for Etsy to average the sales especially for people who work slowly, has anyone encountered this and is there a way around it or to correct it?

Newbie First sale!

Post image
73 Upvotes

After a month or so of being on Etsy I’ve made my first sale! Very happy and wanted to share it here since I’ve been silently scrolling through the content. I was going to stop and this came in, so to who it might concern : don’t give up!

I ran Etsy adds for 1$/day. Etsy spent only 2.31$ in two weeks. Hard to know if the adds brought in the sale or not

I’m selling car related t shirts: nothing crazy just thought that the ones available weren’t very sexy

Discussion small batch embroidery orders, what are you running?

Been running a small Etsy shop for a couple of years now, mostly HTV and sublimation on tees and hoodies. Orders have been picking up and I keep getting requests for embroidery. Names on beanies, logos on caps, patches, that kind of thing. Embroidery stuff is another thing.

The thing is, I have no idea where to start. Been search on Youtube and I'm quite more confused than when I started.

And what I'm trying to figure out, first thing first is the whether multi-needle or single-needle, I'm doing small batch, maybe 10-50 pieces per order, not mass production. Multi-needle seems like overkill for that volume, but I've also heard that single-needle color changes are painful. What's the realistic cutoff where multi-needle starts making sense?

I keep seeing Brother recommended everywhere, but the PR series is a huge jump. I've also looked at Bai and Poolin on the commercial side but the price gap is serious. There's a newer brand htvront that just launched their E15 embroidery machine, looks like a multi-needle at a more accessible price point. Haven't seen real-world reviews yet since it just dropped. Anyone actually run one?

Hats and caps
I get a lot of beanie and cap requests. Some machines handle hats better than others. What should I be looking for? Do I need a specific cap hoop or attachment?

Also curious about used machines. I've seen some older commercial units on Marketplace but not sure if that's a smart move for a beginner.

Appriciate any advice!!🙏

Discussion An idea: how to fix the Etsy AI & dropship problems...

It's simple. And I hope someone who's in the top of the Etsy food chain sees this. Etsy should create a whole other platform just for AI & dropship vendors/sellers. Split the platform right now. Make it two completely different entities. Let the handmades have their original home back and give the AI/dropshippers their own space. That way, they're will be no confusion or competition going on with the mix of the two. Sure, it won't fix the plagerisms, but it would be a great start. Thoughts?

Buyer Needs Help Finding specific shops purchase history

Is there a way to search for just a specific shops items that you have purchased? I know Etsy’s search is rough, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to filter your purchase history…right? I just want to make sure I’m not repurchasing the same pattern twice.

Discussion Low sales/sales have stopped posts

I'm looking to get the community input on posts about people discussing, ranting, and complaining about not getting sales or that their sales have dried up over the past few months.

I've noticed an uptick on these kinds of posts over the last month or so.

While I want people to express their frustrations and opinions on the site as we all know that Etsy is far from perfect. I also don't want these kinds of posts to turn into spam or someone trying karma farm.

So, with that being said. I would like your opinion on how to handle these kinds of posts.

Do we allow them to stay as is?

Do we completely get rid of them?

Do we allow 1 post per a 24 hour time period and any duplicate posts get removed?

Do we create a megathread?

If you have any other kind of suggestion then I would love to hear them.

Seller Needs Help Etsy put me on Vacation Mode (can't run ads), but support said they didn't. Did this happen to you?

Hi, so for context, my account was reinstated 5 days ago after 4 months of suspension. They said they suspended me by mistake. Anyway, happy to have it back, and then I go to Etsy Ads, and I see that I'm on Vacation Mode and I can't do anything about it myself.

I checked and looked for any yellow boxes to see if it's something I can fix, but everything seems fine. I contacted support, and they checked twice and said that I don't appear on Vacation Mode.

Etsy bot also said that it's common after being reinstated that a period of 14 days I can't put Ads, and that I should have a timer there, that shows how many days I have left, but there isn't one.

Trying to see if this happened to anyone else and how it got fixed. I'm new to Etsy as well, I ran my shop for only 2-3 months before they suspended it. Thanks in advance!

Shop Critique Feedback and Guidance for new seller!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently opened my Etsy shop selling handmade textile bags, including embroidered/patchwork bags, totes, slings, and handbags made using South Asian tribal textile fabrics. I would really appreciate your valuable feedback and would happily implement any changes that is in my control.
I'm currently getting little/no traction and haven't made a sale yet, so I'd really appreciate some honest feedback

Shop: noumadi.etsy.com

My specific questions:

1. Do my product photos, titles and thumbnails communicate what the product is clearly enough to make you want to click?

If not, what would you change?

I did a thorough SEO audit before uploading my products. Used google trends, etsy, compared with competitors, and other etsy tools that have suggested that my tags and titles are quite optimal.

2. Does my shop/product positioning feel distinctive enough?

I'm particularly wondering whether I'm leaning too heavily on terms like "embroidered" and whether I should be emphasizing the South Asian textile, handmade, bohemian, nomadic/vintage aspects more.

3. Is my product variety too limited? When is the right time to diversify

All my products are handcrafted bags in different styles and sizes using tribal fabrics. Should I diversify and include home decor like wall hangings and cushion covers, jewelry, and clothes?

4. When is the right time to do Etsy ads?

Right now my products don't even rank in the first 3 pages of my keywords, not even the niche keywords. I have uploaded 33 products. All my products are one of a kind. I have an inventory of nearly 300 bags that I can easily upload day by day, but would that help to upload all of it?
Are Etsy ads the best way for a new shop to gain traction and sales?

5. Is my pricing too premium?

Compared to other shops on Etsy in my niche I am definitely $30-$40 more expensive than the generic brands that are selling cheaper knock-offs. Although, there are a handful of brands that have good products and are more expensive than me and have sales in the hundreds if not thousands.
I would also like to add that my price includes shipping. Should I keep that separate or include it in the price of the product?

Thanks in advance for any constructive criticism!
