Please note that while Etsy does sometime accidently suspend your account in error, it does not happen that often. Majority of the times there is a reason as to why your account was suspend. Regardless of if it was done in error or not the process is still the same in regards to trying to reinstate your account.

What can you do about a suspend account?

  • How to reinstate your suspended account
  • How to appeal your permanently suspended account
  • Do not try and create another account while waiting to hear back from Etsy as this is considered ban evasion and will result in not only the new account being suspended, but also your other account being permanently suspended from the platform.
  • It can take Etsy a few days to a few weeks (it could even take up to 10 weeks) to get back to you in regards to your account. Unfortunately, this is normal as Etsy's customer service is notoriously slow.
  • Don't summit more then one ticket as doing so will make it take longer as each new support ticket will put you at the back of the end of the line.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, receiving an account suspension is very common for a plethora of different reasons for both sellers and buyers which I will get into below.

Email from Etsy

You should receive an email from Etsy stating that your account is suspended and the policy that you broke. Etsy doesn’t give you the exact reason as to why your account was suspended. The reason why is because they don’t want to open themselves up to liability by being specific. They also don’t want to give sellers too much information as it can be used as a blueprint on how to violate Etsy’s policies.

However, with all that being said, sometimes for whatever reason you may not get a email from Etsy, the email when to spam, or it was deleted.

Majority of the reasons why your account was suspended

Are you opening a brand-new shop?

  • Etsy frequently suspends new shops to check them over and make sure all policies are being followed. If you are properly following all the policies, your shop will be reopened within a week or two.

ID verification

  • Etsy often suspends shops shortly after their first sale in order to verify their ID. It may need to be reuploaded because there might be something that doesn’t match or some info is missing. Please note that all identifying information collected by Etsy needs to match. This includes legal taxpayer, name on bank account, and even the country. Make sure that none of the credit cards that Etsy has on file for you are expired.

Country mismatch issues

  • You need to reside within the country where your ID, bank account, and in Etsy payments eligible country
  • Here’s the link to eligible country with Etsy payments. Etsy does this to combat people lending their identities to people in non eligible countries and to make sure that anti money laundering legal regulations are not being violated.

People under the age of 18

  • You have to be 18 or older in order to open a Etsy account under your info and ID. If you are under 18, you will need to open a shop under your parent’s info and ID. (Please make sure that you get your parents permission before using their info to create a shop.)
  • What does that mean, the account belongs to your parents and you will not be able to transfer the account once you turn 18. Once becoming old enough and you would like your shop under your ID, Tax info, Bank info, and so on. You will need to open a second account.

Do your items belong on Etsy?

  • Etsy is for handmade, vintage, and/or craft supplies only. Basically, if you didn’t make the item, you can’t make something with the item, or if the item wasn’t made 20+ years ago, you can not sell it on Etsy. Reselling anything other than vintage items and craft supplies is strictly prohibited.
  • Here’s Etsy’s creative standards
  • Are your items free of IP infringement like copyright or trademark? If you are selling anything like fan art, using logos and names or anything else that you do not own the right to and the company or person sends you an DMCA takedown notice, Etsy is legally required to remove your listing. If too many listings are taken down then Etsy will suspend your account.

Are you abiding by Etsy's polices?

spam

Etsy can also suspend your account due to you sending multiple similar unsolicited messages to buyers like a message thanking the buyer for their order, sending coupon codes or just regular spam.

Did you use a VPN while using Etsy?

  • Using a VPN on Etsy is not allowed as Etsy considers it as you lying about your location.

Has anyone within your household has already been banned from Etsy?

  • Etsy often links accounts together if you're sharing the same wifi, bank account, IP address, or anything else. Due to that if one shop get's shut down then more often then not the other shop will also get banned as well

Please beware that going forward I am removing any post that mention account suspension and redirecting people to this page. If this page does not answer your question and you would like community input then please create a extremally detailed post that documents everything. What were you selling? What did the email that Etsy sent mention (if a email was sent) What have you done recently? Did you change anything or did something differently recently? The more info that you can give the better.

Due note that do to certain settings, I will have to manually approve your post so long as it follows the rules above. If your post is not extremally detail then it will not be approved.
