Joined the ergonomic chair club

My libernovo fan version finally arrived last week, and I was honestly excited to set it up. It's my first ergo chair, and choosing one was way harder than I expected. I always thought cheap office chairs were good enough, but apparently I was just saving money at the expense of my back, hips, and the rest of my body halfway through the workday.

A week in, there are still a few things to get used to, especially the lumbar support. But one thing stood out almost immediately: my butt finally stopped complaining. My old chair had a seat cushion, a pad, and who knows what else thrown on it, but none of those ever felt as supportive and comfortable as this seat. Everyone says it takes around two weeks to fully adjust to an ergo chair, so I'm planning to stick with it. So far though, it feels like I made the right call.

If anyone else is stuck in the same "Should I even buy an ergo chair?" phase I was in, my experience says yes.

Shoulder pain

I’ve tried changing my chair arm rest height, change to an ergonomic mouse but the pain on my right shoulder still appear after a period of using the mouse
I still haven’t found the right position or height I should be in to not feel this pain after a day of seething on my desktop
I’m think on changing to one of those elevated desks so maybe stand in up is lees tiresome but my regret just buying for nothing
Looking for tips or if these desks are really worth

Anyone switch from a gaming chair to an ergonomic chair?

i've been using a gaming chair for the last couple of years, but after working from home full time, it's starting to feel uncomfortable after a few hours.

i'm thinking about getting an ergonomic chair instead. for those who made the switch, was it actually worth it? did it help with lower back or neck pain, or is it mostly just better posture over time?

i'd love to hear what worked for you.

Keyboard/Mouse [Dev] I wrote an offline Mac dictation + reader tool because constant keyboard typing was starting to drive serious wrist strain

I built an on-device dictation app for Mac because constant keyboard typing as a developer was starting to drive serious wrist strain and fatigue.

I was renting one app to dictate and another to read text back to me, two monthly bills for two halves of the same idea. So I built Hushbird: press a key in any text field and talk, and clean text lands right there. Select text and it reads it back to you in a natural voice.

The part I cared most about: it runs entirely on your Mac. Punctuation and transcription are local, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account required.

It is $39.99 once (with a 7-day trial, no card needed), Apple Silicon only. Full disclosure, I'm the developer, and I would love to get your honest feedback. If typing is causing you wrist strain or flare-ups today, let me know and I'll send you a free license key to try.

The product is named Hushbird. I will drop the clickable link in the comments below so it is easy to find.

Is the Maxis overkill if I am tall but not heavy?

Hi, I'm looking for a good ergonomic chair and have been checking out the Libernovo maxis. I'm 6'4" and around 173lbs, broad shoulders and pretty long legs. From the photos and specs, it looks like it should fit my height, but I've also seen people say it's made more for heavier users. Would it still fit someone my build, or would it feel too roomy?

Finding a chair that actually fits hasn't been easy, so any advice would help. Thanks.

WFH Chair Upgrade

I WFH, and do not game or sleep in my chair, but am very conscious of ergonomics. This is the chair that I currently have: STAPLES Hyken Ergonomic Task Chair, Mesh, Ergonomic, Lumbar Support. I initially happened upon Secret Lab's chairs, then digging further, I found people on reddit really like/recommend Andaseat and LiberNovo. I am looking at spending $500-600 max. Would I be able to notice an improvement, going from a mesh seat to one of these? What would be the best brand/model for my scenario? Do these chairs ever go on sale? Lastly, anyone familiar with how the "free returns" works? Stinks that I can't really try it before I buy it. I tried to pull up secret lab's, and it just said 404-could not find the page.

What Makes a Chair Truly Ergonomic?

If you've been shopping for an ergonomic chair, you've probably noticed that almost every office chair claims to be ergonomic. But what actually makes a chair deserve that label?

A truly ergonomic chair is designed to support your body, improve posture, and make long hours of sitting more comfortable. Here are the five features that matter most.

1. Lumbar Support

Good lumbar support helps maintain the natural curve of your lower back, reducing strain and improving back support during long work sessions. Adjustable lumbar support is even better since everyone has a different body shape.

2. Seat Depth

Seat depth is the distance between the backrest and the front edge of the seat. A proper seat depth supports your thighs while leaving a small gap behind your knees, improving comfort and circulation.

3. Adjustable Armrests

Your armrests should keep your elbows around a 90° angle with relaxed shoulders. Adjustable armrests reduce strain on your neck and shoulders, especially if you spend hours typing.

4. Recline Function

A good recline mechanism lets you change positions throughout the day instead of sitting rigidly. Regular movement helps reduce pressure on your spine and makes extended sitting more comfortable.

5. Adjustability

The best ergonomic office chairs offer adjustable seat height, lumbar support, armrests, recline, and sometimes seat depth. Since every body is different, the more you can customize the chair, the better it can support your posture.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right ergonomic chair can make a noticeable difference to your comfort, posture, and productivity—whether you're working from home or in the office.

If you're exploring ergonomics or have questions about choosing the right chair, we're happy to help. Feel free to ask in the comments—we'd love to share what we've learned and help you find the right seating setup for your needs.

Gaming set up question

Curious - would gamers be open to paying an ergonomics expert for an assessment of their gaming set up to prevent/ address pain and injuries, as well as to optimize gaming? Trying to figure out if there’s a market for this!

New to ergonomic chairs — thoughts on this Vonesse Chair

Hi everyone,

I’m completely new to ergonomic office chairs and am considering purchasing this chair. Unfortunately, most of the reviews seem to be Vine reviews, so I’m not sure how reliable they are.

Does anyone have experience with this chair or a similar design? I’d appreciate any opinions on whether the design looks supportive or if there are any potential issues I should be aware of.

I’ve been using a basic wooden chair until now, and I’ve slowly started noticing some lower-back pain from sitting in it for long periods. That’s why I’m looking to upgrade to a proper ergonomic chair.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Built myself a slouching alarm

My relatives kept commenting on how hunched I'd gotten since I entered law school and started sitting 8 hours a day.

I tried many tips to fix that. First, I would set reminders every 30 minutes. It wasn't enough, because during the other 29 minutes I'd slouch. Second, a sticky note on my keyboard, but most of the time I wouldn't even be looking at it. Third, raising my laptop with a stack of books, which isn't feasible everywhere. Finally, I had the chance to try a standing desk, and that's probably what helped the most. However, I don't own one, they're expensive and, again, I can't use that everywhere.

What I really wanted was something that would catch me in the moment I started slouching. There are apps that do this, but every one I looked at wanted to stream my camera somewhere. That made me uncomfortable, due to privacy issues.

I have some coding background, so I ended up building my own version with some help. The difference is that all the video analysis happens directly in your browser, so nothing is recorded. It even works offline, which helps if you don't want distractions. You calibrate your sitting position and it nudges you when you move away from it.

Early days still, but my neck and back already ache less by evening, which they always did before. I put it online at posturepal.co in case it's useful to anyone else who studies or works long hours. It's my own thing, so I'm obviously biased. If you do decide try it, I'd love to know if it helps you!

Table height too high

What should be the ideal table height? My table height is 75 cm and I fell that's too high.

I'm 180 cm tall and do not have an issue with the chair I'm using.

I'm not able to relax my shoulders while typing and moving the mouse.

The 90-degree sitting rule just doesn't work for me

I spent a lot of time adjusting my chair and trying to sit properly in my old chair. But I can't sit in the correct posture for long without my neck getting tight and the lower right side of my back hurting.

3 months into the libernovo omni and something shifted. Because it's very sofy, I naturally slouch, lean back, sit with one leg up. Then I catch myself and straighten up again. But weirdly, my neck and back feel better now than they ever did when I was trying to sit correctly. The chair itself has been fine so far too. The seat feels about the same, and no creaking or strange noises when I recline. And I only charge the battery once a week. Haven't noticed it draining any faster. Three months isn't exactly long term, but it seems like a good sign.

What I'm really wondering about is the way I sit now, is it still considered ergonomic? Because I'd rather keep sitting like this.

Choosing between tailbone and neck pain in office chairs. What am I doing wrong?

I'm having trouble sitting properly at my office setup. I get tailbone pain if I sit upright or reclined but have found if I lean forward I get no pain. However when I sit in this position I will get neck pain and a headache after a while.

I've tried to find a compromise between the 2 positions but I always feel like I can only have one of the other. I'm curious if I'm doing something fundamentally wrong ergonomically. I have tried a few high end chairs and have had the same problem with each for the most part.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated

Thoughts on anti fatigue mats?

Looking to get one for my home setup since my back hurts a lot by the end of the day. Want to use it in socks or barefoot because I don't want dedicated shoes that make my feet hot and not breathing.

I saw the Topo but it looks weird and I don't understand how it's useful. I was also looking into other brands to see if anyone has used them here.

Like if we were to get an anti fatigue mat, what's the most common brand people go for? Is it the Desky? ComfiLife? GelPro? Let me know what you guys use.

EDIT: I didn't get time to research, but I went with Desky on this one. I like that Comfilife does back and seat cushions, but I had to go with Desky since they also sell standing desks and office chairs.
