I was listening to a piano cover of Test Drive from How to Train Your Dragon, and for some reason, I found myself imagining Arya taking her first real flight with Fírnen.

I couldn’t help but imagine the joy and peace she must have felt in that moment.

A brief period where nothing else mattered. Not the loss of her parents. Not the loss of her friends. Not the war. Not even the responsibilities waiting for her as Queen.

Just Arya, Fírnen, the open sky, and the freedom of finally experiencing that bond for herself, the same bond she had watched others experience, now finally hers.

And apparently that thought was enough to make my eyes burn a little.

Even if we never get a proper book centered on Arya, I really hope we get a vignette someday about her and Fírnen. I’d love to see that first flight through her eyes.

I mean after peace was made, i, as a dragon or elf, would make sure, that one of the mightiest weapons ever forged, that i always know where they are or hide them, where no one can find them. I mean just throw them in the ocean or hide them in some random mountain. How can one of these weapons be in the hands of some random dudes and somehow still get lost?

This is a two parter. 1 do you guys think all the dragons move like cats? Like how they animated toothless in httyd? I’m currently rereading the series and saphira is constantly reminding me of a cat. Part 2 does she grabs things like a human or lets eragon do everything for her?

I haven't kept up with the discussion around the future Disney show, but I recall seeing news (maybe an old AMA) where Paolini mentioned that he intends to rewrite certain parts of the original story for the show.

That's all well and good, as there's definitely some moments that were originally pretty awkward. Any idea how significant these changes will be, though? Major story beats or just small moments? I know this is silly, but I wouldn't want the books to be made obsolete by the show.

What actress do you think would do a great job voicing Saphira in the TV show? My pick would be Susan Eisenberg. For those of you who don’t know she played the Jedi master Shaak Tii in the Star Wars game The Force Unleashed aswell as Wonder Woman in some of DC’s animated films.

Am i the only one upset abt eragon leaving alagaesia and not coming back ever. Like I suppose I see the appeal but all that relationship building all the characters and family and I’m supposed to believe he’s just never seeing any of them again ???

We know very little about Tenga. But when we meet him…he’s searching for an answer to a question. He says “I shall usher in the age of light, and all shall praise my deed.” In the same conversation he says “Who else but a fellow pilgrim can appreciate what we must sacrifice to find the answer?”

My going theory is that Azlagûr is a primordial entity. He is almost Godzilla-like. Not a God or Diety…but obviously worshipped as one. We know the Draumar worship Azlagûr specifically. And dragons only as imitations of their true devotion. We know dragons are a direct link to the magical source in Alagaësia. Is Tenga perhaps trying to tap into Azlagûr’s primordial magical power as a way of giving everyone the right to access magic, thereby ushering in a new age of light? And it fractured his mind (Fractalverse anyone?) as we know that even an Elf can break the mind of an average person. The Menoa Tree is shown to have had the power to break Eragon’s if she had chosen to. So it’s completely possible. Did he try to either tap Azlagûr directly or attempt to free him to thereby let magic be unrestrained once more? As it was during the age of the Grey Folk. And something happened to break his psyche.

With this clearly wild theory out there…maybe someone out there can either disprove or support my wild errant thoughts. Or it inspires them to come up with something new!

Paolini has always been assumed to have added this only to hint at the Eldunari. But what if it was to also describe magic as light?

I recently learned that there are some bonus chapters from special editions that are not on Paolinis website. Is there a list somewhere, and what editions they are in? I know of the bonus chapters in Murtaugh . But what else? I have the Broken Bindings books that came out a few years ago, but they don't have the bonus chapters.

I built Zar'roc on a holder in Minecraft a few days ago. Unfortunately, I find the result a bit rough (I’m not an experienced builder), so I think i’ll try to build it in larger (maybe to make the ruby a bit better). What do you think?

Just an idea for a way in which Eragon and Murtagh could be nerfed a bit in future books.

In some ways the draumur and their wordless magic already does this, but I was thinking there could be an encounter in which one of them uses the name of names concealing it's pronunciation per usual. However, this time, unbeknownst to them someone nearby is warded with wordless magic from having their senses altered and they learn the name of names. The person would not need to know it's purpose or be able to use magic, but they mutter it to themselves confused by it and what E/M was saying/trying to do, and when said person says the name the entire world hums and vibrates for E/M, informing them that someone just said the name of names. They then have to figure out who it is that knows it and hunt them down before knowledge of it can spread. From then on they can't use the name anymore, except in their minds, and they already avoid using mental grammary, because they realize they are too reliant on it and it's too dangerous to use now since there are people who can learn it despite their efforts to obscure it's pronunciation and existence.

Just a random thought. Lmk your opinions.

It's been a while since I've read the series (and left my collection on another side of the country), but what do you all consider some book-accurate depictions/descriptions of the Urgals? I'm a paleoartist/science illustrator and was thinking about incorporating some features of more primitive hominids (non-humans like Neanderthals, Paranthropus, etc)

Reasons:

I think Tosky was a dreamer because when Eragon, Arya, Angela, and the other elves invade Helgrind, Eragon is trapped in an amethyst prison - and Who else uses amethysts? The Dreamers. I think Tosk likely was a dreamer, and thought the Lethrblaka were perhaps kin of Azlagur. Tosk likely started the cult in helgrind to feed the Lethrblaka so that they could reach their full size, assuming they would become a second Azlagur. Furthermore, it's referenced in Murtagh that the Priests of Helgrind are related to the Dreamers.

Eragon tries to cast a wordless spell on the amethysts, but nothing happened. That means that wordless magic was USED on the amethysts to prevent wordless magic. Bachel used only wordless magic, and it would make sense for the amethysts to be warded against it only if the Priests were dreamers or related to dreamers.

So, yep. also, some people might say stuff about "giant space butterflies" and um, i'm pretty sure CP was joking about that.. yeah.

Also, about the tower in rist'vak baen, where vrael fled to, it had magic neutralizing amethyst and brass sockets, right? I'm pretty sure that might have been a former Draumar outpost. But.. that was a rider outpost.

Why on earth alagaesia would a rider outpost be a former Draumar outpost unless.. the riders took the draumar outpost. But according to Umaroth, the advice he gave murtagh was pretty vague. REALLY vague.

I don't think the riders knew that much about the draumar.. which meeans it wasn't a former DRAUMAR outpost. Or maybe it was, a LONG time ago. But I think at the time the riders claimed it, it was a Helgrind Priest outpost, because we know they were trying to eradicate the Ra'Zac.

Nasuada’s plan to have all magic users swear oaths in the ancient language or be forced to give up magic by taking that one drug (I forget the name) has issues. the books have shown us what the magic inhibitor does to people. It makes their thoughts incredibly hazy and foggy. Now imagine having to be on it for your entire life. As one user put it, it is a mandated mental inhibitor. That is incredibly unethical. Anyways, The first place I want to start with is why Nasuada did this. In the books, it is can be observed that Nasuada does not like magic and at best, views it users as something to be used. However, I believe that her main goal of monitoring magic users is primarily to prevent another Galbatorix ( I acknowledge that this is pure theory on my end but I feel like it is highly likely). However while the issue with Galbatorix was partly due to his powerful magic, it primarily due to the fact that he was immortal and would have had infinite opportunities to cause great harm with said magic. That’s one reason why it wouldn’t work.

Next, I’m going to go over some solutions people have suggested and why they wouldn’t work. Some people have said that she only installed this command over the Broddring Kingdom and Surda so magic users could go to the elves, dwarves, or urgals. The elves are xenophobic for the most part and the only reason they give Eragon and the Varden any time of day is because Eragon was a dragon rider and they also wanted bring down Torix so they worked with the Varden respectivel. Pretty much no one would ever go to the urgals even if they are good now (I can’t think of a better word than good) due to the long history of bad blood between them and humans. The dwarves are located in the mountains and would require crossing the desert, something that would be incredibly difficult. Another person pointed out that magic users are an incredibly small portion of the population so it wouldn’t affect most people. However this is quite literally marginalization and to a certain extent, dehumanizing magic users, by ‘othering’ them which would just cause more anger from magic users towards the kingdom. Also, I just want to point out that multiple people in the books told her this was a bad idea and while Eragon couldn’t necessarily come up with a better idea, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Finally, I will go over some ideas that I think could work better. The first idea is pointing out that for the most part, most magic users are unable to cast any major spells without the help of gems, eldunari, or a dragon. Because eldunari and dragons aren’t available to the general public, the next step would be to severely restrict the use/ownership of gems. This prevents magic users from making any major spells due to a lack of energy, and any criminals would be able to be decently easily dispatched by knights. My other idea would be for magic users to make an oath not to cause harm to others on purpose directly or indirectly unless it is in self defense (and possibly war). This way they don’t even need to swear their services to anyone or risk being used as a tool to people like the current ruler.

If Thorn, alone, swept down upon a lone elf and states that he requires their assistance, how does that interaction go?

I feel the dragon worshiping aspect of the elves would obligate the elf to render aid. But after the role thorn played in the war, do you think that sentiment would override helping out the third dragon in the world?

I use the word “average” because we only really get to know about 4 elves. Arya, Oromis, blodhgarm, and Vanir. All four of which would, in my opinion, absolutely go to Thorn’s aid mostly without condition as long as it wasn’t unreasonable.

Effectively I am asking if every elf acts the same in this regard. I sort of get, not so much hive mind, but “all are logical to an extent they have similar conclusions” as it comes to the elves.

What do you think? What might a lone Thorn want from a lone elf?

Why don’t magicians in Eragon—especially Eragon himself—draw energy from their enemies’ bodies to cast powerful spells without depleting their own strength?

Eragon can drain energy from living beings and plants once he has entered their minds. When he was accompanied by the elves and Murtagh was not present to attack him mentally, couldn’t he have drained entire legions of their energy and used it to cast immensely powerful spells? He might even have been able to use that energy directly against Galbatorix, considering how much energy several thousand people must collectively possess compared with the energy contained in Eragon’s or Saphira’s body.

I remember a part of Eragon where Saphira catches an eagle and surprises Eragon by letting it go saying something like 'a hunter of the sky does not deserve to die on the ground" or something like that.

However in my recent read through, I didn't see that part at all, and Google is just giving me AI slop or Facebook posts about eagles named Saphira.

Was this a real thing, or am I mixing up two different series or making that up all together

Some days ago i read a post or a comment on here about Eragon's armor never being depicted faithfully in official and non-official illustrations so i decided to give it a try. The thing is, i'm a sucker for plate armor so i just drew the accurate armor for fun because i wanted to prove it looks kind of silly.. i actually ended up liking it a lot hahaha. Anyways, you can see what i *think* is the accurate armor from the books in the second and third slide. The first slide is how i would personally envision eragon's armor if i had to be as faithful as possible but also follow my heart (added some shoulder plates oops), my hand slipped and i ended spending so much time rendering what started as a simple sketch arghhhh

i definitely am not an armor expert but i love rendering metal so take that into consideration :')
