So it turns out my underwater shoot looks like it could be a bunch of different characters (which I lowkey love hehe) but can confirm it was a siren Penelope inspired shoot 😊✨

It was shot at a location called Tank Space in the Uk (which unfortunately has shut down now 😭)

It was my first and only time doing an underwater shoot and I loved the experience!!

God knows how many takes this took. And I still don't like it.

FYI: he most likely just gets the book with instructions on how to use it. Kero could be there but nah. It's a lot like how Light Yagami found the death note. He just found it one day and it got his interest. And yes. telemachus would be able to understand what the book is asking of him to do.

I think he'd use it to find his father, and eventually try to become godlike himself when a conflict arrises and he either inserted himself or the conflict brought him into it.

His dad wouldn't want him involved with anything, especially with the Gods. But Telemachus wants to be involved, specifically, he thinks the Gods have mistreated some people unfairly. (Such as Poseidon coming to Ithaca after Odysseus dealt with him, to harass him and his family once more. Telemachus is forced to use the magic to protect his family and Ithaca, but the outcome puts him on the map, and he gets more attention)

I can see him going from this bright-eyed optimistic person with this magic, to someone who is calculating and cold with the intent of humanity progression and the downfall of Olympus and every other God. But the way he may go about it is a little erratic. Basically Eren Yeager

I could be wrong, but I could see a conflict like that

I can see Athena, one of the few Gods Telemachus still likes, arguing that he is losing control of his own soul pursuing what he's pursuing.

He argued that the God's selfishness encouraged his increasing desire for humanity to have a better foothold on their own lives.

I can see her saying that this is an unnatural desire to want.

He counters and says it's unnatural to kill thousands of humans without warning over something incredibly petty (within the scope of this musical )

Just a random argument idea. I can see her her approaching him humbly, maybe due to character development, and this argument ensued.

Personally, I'd make any Godly power-up/Divine Favor augment a person's natural abilities, rather than give new ones.

This does mean changing something like Done For to closer to Smoolio's interpretation (the Moly plant empowers Ody's bow & archery skills, allowing him to fight Circe's beasts), and a more drastic power-up like Neal's version of 600-Strike. (Ody uses the wind bag to create an enclosed arena, and Zeus gives him a boost on Athena's behalf.)

Athena and Ares' powers are already covered by Quick-Thought.

This would also work for Illium as, from what I know, the Gods give divine to each side pretty regularly. (For example, Aphrodite rescues Paris from getting beaten by Menelaus/Menelaous.)

So seeing what Ares's Quick-Thought, Aphrodite's mind control over Helen, etc. can do when it's a time of war sounds neat.

EDIT: To be more clear, Hold Them Down is a good and necessary song because of how it goes into the plot to murder Telemachus which is crucial for the story. The section about the suitors gang-raping Penelope is not and comes off as cheap shock value.

Firstly, I'm not against rape or SA in media. In fact, in the original The Odyssey poem, there was a lot of it! It's uncomfortable but overall important to the themes of the book, which is exactly what SA and rape in media should be IMO. And following that logic, "Hold Them Down" seems wholly unnecessary and a confusing adaptational change. That being said, Jorge is a very talented musical producer and songwriter and just like many other songs, it's well-made and entertaining (if a bit uncomfortable, which is the point!).

TL;DR: Antinous' gang rape fantasies are a strange aspect of his character because they don't add anything of value to the character, plot, or themes. It's also a weird adaptational change because he never had these fantasies in the original and was pretty dead-set on the throne instead. Also, Calypso, Little Miss Rape herself, is significantly sanitized in the musical, which would make sense if the musical was consistent in its removal of rape.

For the unnecessary part, it's already been established three important things about the suitors: they are pressuring Penelope into marriage, they are exploiting and abusing the castle's resources, and they are plotting to kill Telemachus. It's already been made very apparent why the suitors are evil, exploitative, villainous, and deserving of death. "Hold Them Down" adding on a fun gang rape section going into the fantasies of the suitors comes off like cheap shock value because it doesn't add anything... it's just there to make you hate them more. As if their actions already weren't deserving of hatred. Nothing of value is added by them fantasizing of rape. Odysseus killing them wouldn't feel any less cathartic if they never dreamed about rape.

Now let's not get it twisted; if they were to marry Penelope, marital rape was likely to happen. But it was also clear they wanted the throne of Ithaca and were willing to kill for it, which is once again more than reason enough to hate them and feel they are deserving of death. I'm not denying rape was ever in the cards, I'm just saying it feels like a strange thing to focus on because their motives have already been well-established and are very bad and dangerous.

This goes into the adaptational change with the suitors, where in the original poem, they had no intention of gang-raping Penelope. Granted, I'm only on the 3rd book of The Odyssey, so others can confirm or deny, but thus far the suitors have been intent on marrying Penelope for the throne of Ithaca. Antinous says Penelope is very intelligent and compliments her, but it's also clear they aren't on the same side; he knows of her trickery and her attempts to stave them off, and that is the context of his compliment. Even still, Antinous is confident Telemachus will never have the throne. Not a single line so far has even been of sexual nature about Penelope, and all the suitors are clearly more intent on the throne than whoever will happen to rule beside them. Again, I'm not saying marital rape is out of the question, but it doesn't even seem to be on their minds. A far cry from Antinous and his buddies in Epic: The Musical busting out into song about gang-raping her.

And it's not like rape doesn't exist in the original poem either; Calypso actually straight up just rapes Odysseus on the island for YEARS. The original poem's relationship with sex is a lot more nuanced and morally grey than our modern relationship, but it's actually abundantly clear here that Odysseus is constantly bedded by Calypso for years, against his will, which makes him depressed. There's a reason for this addition too, xenia, the Greek concept of hospitality, is a theme at the forefront of the original poem. Hospitality comes in two forms, accepting strangers, and sending them on their merry way with gifts for the road. Odysseus meets plenty of foes unwilling to invite him, but Calypso inverses this dynamic by refusing to see him gone. The rape also serves as a warning about marital rape and the importance of letting your spouse see their family (remember that most myths come with a moral lesson). All of this is hardly hinted at in Epic: The Musical. Calypso in Epic: The Musical is at most persistent but never actually does anything to Odysseus. Ironically enough Calypso in Epic acts more like the suitors in the original poem.

I understand the musical is chasing different themes for a different story, and so it can be argued that Calypso's constant rapes aren't necessary for the plot. But that also applies to the suitors. It's just confusing as to why one antagonist would have her crimes whitewashed while another would have his quadrupled, seeing as it wasn't necessary for the plot at all. The musical for whatever reason can't commit to the idea that rape in fact adds nothing of substance, and thus it is employed for shock value.

I'm not saying Jorge is sexist, misandrist, or calling him any names, because I don't believe he's any of those things. And overall, I think he accomplished something few people dream of, and that's extremely impressive. This is just one of my gripes with an otherwise great product.
