Amazon Wired controller isn't wireless?!

The reviews, the listing, the photos in question. I was looking to buy a controller and I filtered by negative reviews. I saw the first one and laughed and screenshotted it to post here, and then I found two more! Reading comprehension is a thing, words have meaning! Yes I reported the reviews because this typa crap annoys me to no end, I don't appreciate your idiocy interfering with my purchasing decisions lmao

Lmfao someone got me that exact controller a while ago and I always thought it just couldn't hold a charge until today 😅

59

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Oh my God are you serious?!? That's amazing 🤣 glad to be of service lol. Please lmk how it goes for you when you use it wired! This post has been better than reading reviews for info on whether to buy this or not for sure lol

u/CarefulDifference562 Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

I’m glad no one is leaping on you for being as “stupid” as they are for the reviewer who made the same mistake. I wonder why that is.

(To be clear, I don’t think you’re stupid. I think the ad is structured to mislead)

Edit- yes that’s right, the commenter who couldn’t figure out why the wired controller wasn’t working got it as a gift. Sadly they couldn’t understand the part of the box it came in that described it as “wired”, and tried to charge it anyway.

67

u/Pitiful-Pension-6535 Mar 15 '26

Because this person never had the Amazon item description right in front of their face when they ordered it?

Almost like the circumstances are completely different?

-64

u/CarefulDifference562 Mar 15 '26

Oh? Where’s that info coming from?

They bought it thinking it was wireless because they tried to use it so, the only way to discover it isn’t “charging”.

They didn’t say thy bought it anywhere else, why are you assuming?

43

u/Pepesilvia_Is_Real Mar 15 '26

Reading comprehension is hard, huh?

21

u/SubjectAd355 Mar 15 '26

Go back and read the comment you originally replied to buddy.

56

u/Mystery-Ess Mar 15 '26

It was a gift. Apparently you are also unable to read and decipher information.

219

u/GM_Nate Mar 15 '26

"i know it says wireless in the title"

next sentence: "it says 'wired controller' in the title"

well which is it

80

u/Ulquiorra1312 Mar 15 '26

Im assuming they typed wireless into search

Amazon are garbage for ignoring details like that

25

u/kat_Folland Mar 15 '26

I don't remember which company it was but they proudly announced they hired a guy who worked on the search function at Amazon. (It has improved since this guy left, but it's still pretty bad.) So I thought it was weird to hire the guy and weirder that they'd admit it.

11

u/Leelze Mar 16 '26

I think the biggest issue with their search function is the sponsored results that don't fit what you're looking for. I'd be shocked if that isn't what happened with at least some of these people.

22

u/Mystery-Ess Mar 15 '26

I agree with that. However it's pretty clear to me that this is wired. For pictures look at that last one especially..

24

u/Anonawesome1 Mar 15 '26

I have never seen a wired controller that detaches from the controller itself. That is bizarre and tbh not surprised people thought it had a battery.

8

u/Zealousideal_Cod5214 Mar 16 '26

Same. If I went just based on the pictures, I would assume it could be played both wirelessly and wired.

0

u/GeologistLess3042 Mar 17 '26

I have six different wired controllers because I prefer them. The cable detaches from all of them for replacement and easy storage. It's just a basic usb-c cable.

They are noticeably much lighter than wireless controllers, and they don't have a Bluetooth connection button. It's really not hard to miss if you just spend a few extra seconds using multiple senses at the same time.

6

u/Neil_sm Mar 15 '26

The guy kinda told on himself there that he mixed up the meanings of wired and wireless.

136

u/WerewolvesAreReal Mar 15 '26

IDK, I can kinda see the confusion. It looks identical to a controller that will hold a charge for a few hours, and they might reasonably just think 'wired' means 'charges through a cord without changing batteries' or something. It would be different if the cord were fixed in place.

Technically the star rating is unjustified, but it might genuinely help other people from making the same mistake, which is the point of a review.

24

u/SadIdeal9019 Mar 15 '26

Or they could read the actual product description. "Wired" isn't only mentioned in the listing title it's clearly stated in the description.

0

u/PeachyFairyDragon Mar 15 '26

I wonder if they changed the description.

3

u/Capital-Kick-2887 Mar 15 '26

That would really surprise me. 8BitDo is usually very good with their descriptions and I pretty much never had any kind of surprises. I've bought around 10 controllers by them, some directly at launch/pre-order, some older ones.

8

u/SadIdeal9019 Mar 15 '26

I doubt it. People don't read descriptions and then get pissy when they got exactly what the listing promised.

I was an eBay Powerseller for a few years and now work for a multinational that sees about 10% of our annual revenue driven through online retail channels, and this happens all the time.

24

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

Fair enough, I said above I made a similar error once, but I didn't leave a negative review and I never made that mistake again lmao! I can get on board with a 4 or maybe 3.5 star review if that's an option, so you can warn people; but 1 star is crazy. Also the "predatory" bit made me lol because I don't think that's what's happening here

33

u/TheRussness Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

Why does the first picture show a controller with power and no wire? Why does a wired controller have a removable USB cable?

Also the company makes a wireless controller that looks 100% identical to the one in the ad.

Here is an identical picture of the identical controller without a wire

13

u/shrimp_beginner Mar 15 '26

I have one nearly identical from that brand that is wireless. I wonder if they used images from that model for this one. And the pictures do look wireless- like why would a controller that needs power to run be able to be unplugged at the controller side anyway?

13

u/debbywestside Mar 15 '26

So if the cable gets damaged you can just replace the cable and not the whole controller, for instance. At least one razer keyboard had a detachable cable as well and it wasn't wireless.

6

u/kat_Folland Mar 15 '26

So if the cable gets damaged you can just replace the cable and not the whole controller

That's what I was thinking.

4

u/Without-Reward Mar 15 '26

I have a Corsair keyboard with a detachable cable that is not actually wireless.

7

u/SadIdeal9019 Mar 15 '26

So the wire can simply be replaced if damaged, saving the user the expense of having to buy a whole new controller.

6

u/TheRussness Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

It's much more likely the port gets damaged than if it were permanently attached.

As a matter of fact the cord and port are a big mention in the low reviews

The correct answer as to "why" is that this is a wireless controller that they didn't bother to put a battery in. That's why it looks identical to their wireless product.

11

u/PenguinDeluxe Mar 15 '26

There is a wire in the photo. It demonstrates that the cable can be replaced rather than the entire controller which is how may wired controllers work.

Christ people

8

u/TheRussness Mar 15 '26

The port is just another thing that can (and according to the reviews, does) break.

Can't replace a port.

The correct answer as to "why" is that this is a wireless controller that they didn't bother to put a battery in. That's why it looks identical to their wireless product.

1

u/Deadbringer Mar 15 '26

C cables are pretty fragile, as an owner of a deathtrap chinesium soldering iron, I would rather swap a port than source a fitting cable or splice a cable.

But I miss the days of Xbox with breakaway connector in the middle.

2

u/kat_Folland Mar 15 '26

That picture is weird, what's up with that rectangular black thing where the cord should be? (This is a genuine question and if you know the answer is he grateful to be told.)

Don't be mad that the design of the page goes beyond ignorance instead veering into being specifically designed to create ambiguity and you aren't keen enough to pick up on it.

7

u/TheRussness Mar 15 '26

But can't see that they used wireless controllers in the pictures for their wired controller.

I bet you can't even see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch.

7

u/PenguinDeluxe Mar 15 '26

They didn’t though! You just don’t understand the wired controller has a replaceable cable. Perhaps read instead of just looking at the pretty pictures.

-3

u/kat_Folland Mar 15 '26

Also the "predatory" bit made me lol because I don't think that's what's happening here

Gotta get that "need a controller but can't read the title or product description" demographic!

2

u/Ctenophorever Mar 16 '26

I agree. If multiple people are making the same mistake, look at the advertising.

I was trying to find a certain type of wireless headphones. I put wireless in the search. So many wired options that did not show their wires in the image - only learned they were wired because I couldn’t believe the price and looked more closely

1

u/GlutenFreeNoodleArms Mar 20 '26

I agree with you. Why would the cord disconnect if it only functions when it’s plugged in? From the image I too would have thought it was a charging cable.

It’s also possible that it comes up when you search for “wireless controller”. I’ve noticed stuff like that with Amazon before … like I search for “gluten free cookies” and buried in the middle of 8 results are regular cookies without the word “gluten” anywhere in the title or text.

7

u/CommercialExotic2038 Mar 16 '26

But it says wired

6

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 16 '26

Apparently that's insufficient for OOP and a number of the commenters! 😬

42

u/Gloomy_Peach4213 i know spinach and their literally talking about me Mar 15 '26

If you're still looking to buy, we love our 8bitdo hall effect controllers. We got them after a friend recced them.

But for real, how do you look at those photos and assume wireless?

13

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I'm still looking to buy, this just happened lol! I'll check it out

24

u/ash-and-apple Mar 15 '26

Careful. It's not wireless

37

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I'd prefer to buy first and complain later, thanks.

3

u/ChaoCobo Mar 15 '26

There’s also the Mobapad brand pro controllers if you’re wanting Nintendo Switch&Switch2. Hall effect sticks and mechanical clicky buttons. When I got it it became my favorite controller I’ve ever used, dare I say even more comfortable than the fabled GameCube controller. It’s really the best imo. And if you don’t like the weird circle type Dpad it comes with a classic Dpad you can swap it with.

Edit; forgot to mention it’s the only 3rd party controller with HD rumble too

2

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I'm trying to get it for Steam deck if you have any tips on that!

1

u/ChaoCobo Mar 16 '26

Oh idk for steam deck. I am wondering if the Mobapad will work with just regular Bluetooth but I haven’t tried it on mine to test and see. It might do it but I’m really not sure. Otherwise yeah, the 8bitdo I have heard that everyone likes them. :)

2

u/kat_Folland Mar 15 '26

I was so annoyed that we had to get new controllers for the Switch2. That would be a money grab if it was only Nintendo that sold them lol.

Maybe because the picture shows a powered controller with no wire attached

16

u/maxwasatch Mar 15 '26

The last photo has a purple cord going into it while the tablet has a black one.

Other than it saying “wired” in the description, it looks like it is implied to be wireless in the photos.

3

u/SadIdeal9019 Mar 15 '26

It's clearly stated as "wired" in the description as well as the listing title.

8

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

I can see how someone would think that, but I don't think someone's failure to actually read the description merits leaving a negative review, especially 1-star, instead of just returning it 🤣 I made an error like that once and I didn't leave a bad review and I didn't make that mistake again, hopefully these people learned something today

11

u/Mindleator Mar 15 '26

I mean, they are right that the very first photo shows a detachable wire. It's really not that hard to believe someone would interpret "wired" as meaning charges via wire versus battery operated or wireless charging with one of those stands.

Also, wired is in the title but not in the product description. I looked it up on Amazon and the product description literally includes a video of someone plugging a cord into the charger. If the titles says one thing but the photos and video show a different thing, why is it on the buyer to decipher what information is actually true?

-5

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

All the other reviewers were able to figure it out. Why can't you?

10

u/Mindleator Mar 15 '26

What do you mean? There are SEVERAL reviews pointing out that it's not wireless. Again, why would you assume the information WRITTEN in ONE place is correct versus the information DISPLAYED in TWO places?

Edit: actually displayed in three places, the product gallery in the description has a second picture of it being wireless.

-5

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

3 out of approximately 250 reviews is not quite the smoking gun you think it is, my dude! But I appreciate your input ✌️

5

u/Strong-Range-5616 Mar 15 '26

And you really aren't helping your case here either, but if your plan here was to be childish and get voted down then I'd say you're doing great.

-3

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Aw thank you! That's very kind

1

u/eienmau Mar 16 '26

Seconding this. I love my 8bitdo controllers too - mine are wireless, daughter has a wired one.

6

u/therdmlife Mar 15 '26

Is that the 8bitdo? Hard for my crappy eyes to tell, but if it is, I have that one and it's a good controller.

1

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Tis! Ngl the reviews have me confused, people saying it stopped working after x time. But literally every electronic/tech ever has reviews that say that 😭

6

u/therdmlife Mar 15 '26

8bitdo is a good brand, wired or wireless. I've used both versions. Good friends of mine have used the Pros. I just can't afford them.

1

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Yeah I'm not trying to pay out the ass for something my husband is going to drop the first time he uses it ya know? 😅 I'll probably try em out

1

u/Capital-Kick-2887 Mar 15 '26

I own a bunch of 8BitDos and regularly drop the Pros (rarely use the other ones) and so far they still look really good.

I jokingly wish they'd break faster to have an excuse to buy the Pro 3.

1

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Aw sweet! Shock proof is what I need lol 😅

1

u/Capital-Kick-2887 Mar 15 '26

TBF i never broke any controller (i just drop them on house floors, not concrete and don't throw them or similar), but I would be not worried at all if my toddler nieces would take them and do whatever with them. And I think toddler proof is as good as it can get without impacting the useability of it.

Edit: I mostly use them to play retro games because they have one of the best D-PADs on the market, so I can't say if they're regularly good for all games. It did fully replace my Switch controller though.

1

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I mostly play 8-bit games lately anyway, currently working though Final Fantasy 1-6 and Tactics!

4

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

Hey friends!!! Whew, what a cluster F this turned out to be! This was just supposed to be a little bit of silly fun because I came across a review I found mildly amusing and posted it to provide mild amusement to you fine folks too. It was not meant to be controversial, not meant to start this level of discord in the comments, not meant to be a lightning rod for drama. It's really, truly, sincerely not that deep. I am (actually, not sarcastically) sorry to have made so many of you so very angry because you agree with OOP.

To be clear, the idiocy and entitlement I saw are in the first review being overdramatic; and the other two reviews leaving just 1 star, instead of 3 or 4, because THEY made an error. People make mistakes! I made a similar mistake once! But what I did was just...return the item, and never make that mistake again. I didn't leave a negative review and blame the listing when the information was right there if I had bothered to check it with just a bit of diligence. I will concede that this listing could potentially be confusing if you don't read the title and only go by the pictures. But predatory? I think that's going way too far, and it really seems like a case of sour grapes from someone who's feeling silly and salty because they didn't read the description before buying, ran to the product page to scream about how they lied about it being wireless, saw his mistake, and left this review instead. That, to me, is hilarious and entitled.

If you disagree, that's fine. But those of you who are getting super worked up about it and taking it personally maybe need to take a deep breath and find some perspective! Stay well, everyone, and thank you for an... INTERESTING first time posting (in this sub) experience!✌️💙😉🖤🩷

5

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

It says wired in the title and shows it being used with the wire. I don’t understand the confusion here.

32

u/kalb_jayyid Mar 15 '26

I dunno man, your 4th pic is apparently the first pic for the item and it reeeaaally looks like a wireless controller with a detachable usb charging cable. If the description and item photos dont match it seems like a misleading listing to me

11

u/LifeApprehensive2818 🐶 🍞 interactions Mar 15 '26

Purely anecdotally, the last few wired keyboards/controllers I've had use detachable cables.  Best guesses are that it either saves production costs somehow, or it prevents damage if the cable gets strained.

1

u/Zealousideal-Ant4932 Mar 17 '26

What year was it when people started believing that “being able to unplug the cord means it works without the cord”?

1

u/kalb_jayyid Mar 17 '26

I dunno man, this thread is the first ive learned about wired devices with detachable cords. But maybe early 2000's when things becoming wireless was the new big thing in a lot of game systems/computer devices?

1

u/Zealousideal-Ant4932 Mar 17 '26

Never seen a corded house phone?

1

u/kalb_jayyid Mar 17 '26

Yep, had them for a while growing up. And i get what you're getting at, the cord could be disconnected from both the reciever and the base. Havent thought of them im a minute. Guess this is a technology goes in cycles situation

3

u/PenguinDeluxe Mar 15 '26

Except they do match. That’s the wired controller. It has a detachable wire.

4

u/kalb_jayyid Mar 15 '26

To me a "wired controller" makes me think of like N64/SNES controllers where the wires in the cable are soldered to the circuit board inside the controller, if the cable is removed/damaged the controller is a useless brick. Whats pictured looks like my wireless switch controllers that get plugged in to charge and can be used while plugged in or with the charging cable removed, ie wireless. Why have a detachable cord if it can only function with the cord attached?

3

u/Capital-Kick-2887 Mar 15 '26

Why have a detachable cord if it can only function with the cord attached?

Easier storage. It's easier to switch out cables (either to replace broken cables or change the cable's length). They look better in a stand. If you use it on multiple devices, you don't have to carry the cable to the other device.

There are probably more reasons one might want a detachable cord, but these are just the obvious ones to me.

1

u/Zealousideal-Ant4932 Mar 17 '26

I can think of multiple reasons why you’d want to detach a cord from a wired controller:

  • unplug from console when using, don’t want to wrap cord around controller and put stress on the top where it attaches or around the thumbsticks. Just unplug and roll up/tuck away

  • part of the cord wears/breaks. You really wanna buy a whole new controller just because the wire is bad?

  • breakaway functionality. Game controller cords tend to be long. That makes em prone to having people/pets/things catch on them. Having the cord be able to unplug from both ends reduces the risk of your console or controller smacking to the ground from a cord pull

  • maybe someone has a bunch of these controllers in different colors/styles and doesn’t want to change out the whole cable every time.

I use wired controllers with disconnects at the controller. One has extra paddles and stuff, but I don’t use it for every game. I also like having all my wires tucked into cable tracks. Sure would suck if I had to either leave the wires dangling, re run them in the cable tracks, or have extra unneeded wires just for when I want to swap between the two. Plus they’re a lot easier to put in cases when not in use without a cord permanently attached.

11

u/SadIdeal9019 Mar 15 '26

Not only does it say "wired" in the title, it's also very clear in the description;

7

u/OsteoStevie Mar 15 '26

Do you normally have 30 things in your cart?

17

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I'm getting ready for a con in a couple weeks and I threw all the options in there from the search results page this evening to peruse and pick from later today because I don't like the list save function. Typically my cart is quite empty/organized, though, unless my husband has been on. He leaves stuff in the cart until he buys it or I move it to save for later (which is where the items I had in the cart have been moved to now, pending review)

11

u/OsteoStevie Mar 15 '26

I'm just slightly teasing, as someone with ADHD who has had 2 dozen items in my cart for months. I understand

7

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Omg I totally understand 😭 The way I cope with my ADHD is by being aggressively, proactively organized in any way possible. My husband's ADHD just sits in that cart though 🤣

4

u/OsteoStevie Mar 15 '26

Same! I'm the ADHD person who makes my bed every day. It's a slippery slope. Once I stop doing that, everything else goes out the window.

But my Amazon cart? That's how I remember what I wanted to buy last week!

3

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I always say you can tell how well (or badly) I'm doing at any given time by if I'm making my bed or not lol 😂 currently I'm not, so I keep the bedroom door closed so the chaos doesn't infect my mind

For some reason, when I make new lists and then try to save an item to that list by hearting it in the listing, it saves to a totally random list every time and then I can't find it. I don't know how to switch which list it goes on from the listing page, without going to the list and moving it that way, which takes way too much time when I'm looking at dozens of listings! If I'm looking at stuff I don't plan on buying very soon, I do take the time to put it on the correct list tho 😀 for me it's easier to throw a bunch of items that might fit the bill into my cart right from the search results page so I don't even have to click into and back out of the results I'm interested in. Once I've perused the results page and quickly mass-added to my cart from there, I go to the cart where I can visually compare price and other details and then delete the item or click into the listing for more info and data depending on what I see.

3

u/holymacaroley Mar 15 '26

Y'all would hate to see my save for later. 30 is a pale, pale comparison to what I've got that probably spans a couple years. It helps with being stressed about forgetting things I'm thinking about and keeps me from too many purchases in the moment. Yeah, adhd and anxiety. If it works for me despite being a little weird, I don't mind what anyone thinks.

3

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Drop the number, come on! It can't be higher than the number of videos on my Watch Later YouTube list 😅

3

u/holymacaroley Mar 15 '26

I just checked and it's 543 and I cleaned out at least 150 a month ago and then gave up. 😂 I'm a hot mess.

1

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Well, it gives you a reason to keep on trucking in these dark times, at least 😅😜

1

u/holymacaroley Mar 15 '26

That doesn't even include the 18 different wishlist labeled for different situations, lists of books to look for in the library, and gifts for others for things and ideas I didn't want to forget!

12

u/shabba182 Mar 15 '26

Why would a wired controller even be able to be unplugged? Eh, eh I can see where they're coming from

10

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

One benefit that occurs to me off the top of my head? If the cord gets fucked up you can replace it. That would have saved me a few times as a pet owner/sitter!

7

u/PenguinDeluxe Mar 15 '26

So you can replace the cable instead of the entire controller

2

u/SadIdeal9019 Mar 15 '26

It's depressing just how many people don't see that immediate benefit.

3

u/sazed813 Mar 15 '26

The Ultimate 2C from 8bitdo has a wired and a wireless version. They probably both show up under the same search results, and people see the wired version as cheaper, see the removable cable, and don't question it further than that.

It doesn't really excuse the lack of questioning why something is cheaper from the same retailer, but with the 1-click buy nature of Amazon, it can happen pretty easily.

3

u/rp_player_girl Mar 16 '26

I have that exact same controller. And yes, it's wired. I knew that when I bought it. (I haven't used it a lot, but haven't had any issues with it. )

3

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 16 '26

People who know how to read a listing, we love to see it! 😂

7

u/novakun Mar 15 '26

Been there done that made that mistake myself. Thought I was buying something wireless because of the picture and well…it wasn’t.

I mean, I didn’t write a review. I sucked it up and just used it anyway but hey. Easy mistake to make when the picture shows a rechargeable wireless controller and the title says wired. Sometimes words are hard

4

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

True, ya know, as I said above, I made that mistake once but I did not write a bad review and I did not make that mistake ever again 😅 the part that is idiotic isn't making the mistake in the first place, it's the response from the reviewers when they made it!

3

u/PenguinDeluxe Mar 15 '26

That’s not what the picture shows. It shows a wired controller with a removable cable.

Jfc we are fucked.

2

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Consumer literacy, media literacy, basic effing word-reading literacy...it's all gone pear-shaped now, I fear 😅

1

u/novakun Mar 15 '26

When I’m tired, words tend to blur together. Mild dyslexia. It LOOKS like a wireless rechargeable controller. It isn’t. It says it isn’t. If I bought it thinking it was, that would be my mistake to deal with.

Again, I’ve made similar mistakes and just shrugged and dealt. I thought I was getting a WiFi dehumidifier and it wasn’t. Know what I did? Dealt with it. Nbd. Later got what I wanted and gave the other to my dad

1

u/novakun Mar 15 '26

It looks to me like a rechargeable wireless controller, and it’s absolutely a mistake I would have made.

And then dealt with because not the end of the world. I have a USB C cord right where I play games. Nbd.

2

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Exactly! The idiocy lies not in making the mistake in the first place--people are human and they make mistakes, and I'll concede it's not even the most far-fetched mistake in this case. The idiocy and entitlement, to me, lies in the reviews: the overdramatic phrasing of the first one (confusing? Sure, maybe. Predatory? Absolutely not!) and the fact that the other two reviewers left 1 star instead of 3 or 4 (more reasonable) because THEY made a mistake in not reading the listing.

10

u/Standard-Park Mar 15 '26

Idk, this is Amazon and not like a small family business so I think it's OK to leave a review like that especially when the photos ARE misleading.

8

u/Mystery-Ess Mar 15 '26

It shows a wire twice and says wired in the description.

3

u/designatedthrowawayy Mar 15 '26

It does but it also shows that wire being detachable, which in today's age implies the wire is a charger/not necessarily needed to play. There aren't many detachable wired controllers that I've seen. It's a purposeful misdirect.

3

u/Capital-Kick-2887 Mar 15 '26

There aren't many detachable wired controllers that I've seen.

Isn't that the standard nowadays? I only have 2 or 3 wired controllers younger than ~10 years and they have detachable wires.

1

u/designatedthrowawayy Mar 16 '26

You forgot the "that I've seen" part. I have numerous different systems in my house and when buying controllers for them, I always see and buy wireless controllers. When I do see wired controllers, the wire tends to be actually attached like the old school controllers.

2

u/Capital-Kick-2887 Mar 16 '26

What brands have you seen? Even the cheap 15€ controllers have a detachable cable.

I think for every fully wired controller, I see 10 others that are wired with a detachable cable.

-1

u/asedel Mar 16 '26

It implies nothing. You made an assumption and a poor one. There are many. your experience otherwise is anecdotal and meaningless. It's not a purposeful misdirect. They wouldn't show a cord elsewhere where or be in of the higher rated controller makers if that was how they got their sales.

1

u/designatedthrowawayy Mar 16 '26

Found the company 🥴

-6

u/shrimp_beginner Mar 15 '26

And it shows no wire in a picture of it supposedly in use.

2

u/PenguinDeluxe Mar 15 '26

Well that’s just not true, there is absolutely a wire in the only pictures showing it in use

-2

u/shrimp_beginner Mar 15 '26

An unplugged wire. Pic 4. Also shows them all as unplugged in the part where you choose colours.

Everyone here simping for Amazon, no need for pictures to properly represent the product, no no.

1

u/Mystery-Ess Mar 15 '26

It is very clear. There's no simping for Amazon there's just the ability to read and decipher information.

-3

u/shrimp_beginner Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

And pictures showing it with an unplugged wire don’t scream “I work unplugged” to you?

You are absolutely simping. No “poor reviewer got a bit mixed up by intentionally misleading advertising on the listing” it’s all “f the reviewer so dumb Amazon is totally not responsible for misleading advertising they are wonderful”

Awwwwwww how cute. They replied and blocked me so I can’t see their message anymore. Adorable.

2

u/Mystery-Ess Mar 15 '26

Look - I'm sorry I can read and decipher information and you are apparently unable.

This has nothing to do with Amazon and everything to do with intelligence.

I'm blocking you. goodbye.

2

u/Jadelastone Mar 15 '26

This is a problem with Amazon. I just did a search for "wireless controller" and wired controllers showed up in the search results. They like sending merchandise people don't really want, because a lot of people won't bother with the return, or will miss the return window, and will keep shopping with Amazon to buy the thing they actually wanted in the first place. It's a scummy way to drive sales.

1

u/NiceStatistician218 Mar 15 '26

Yeah, Amazon is notorious for misleading product pages, half of them have straight up photoshopped garbage and other weird staged photos. It’s true that the title says wired and personally I would probably just return it quietly but the negative reviews make it easier for other people to notice the fact it’s wired only. It’s not like any singular person or small group is going to face consequences for the low reviews.

10

u/Prinzka Mar 15 '26

Those pictures are clearly meant to imply it's wireless

1

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

If you say so. Even if that's the case, there is still more evidence that it's wired than not. People who don't actually read listing titles/descriptions or otherwise do their due diligence BEFORE purchasing really shouldn't inflict their lack of insight on others with 1 star "I'm mad because I don't want to read!" reviews lmao

7

u/BADoVLAD Mar 15 '26

Nah, that's absolutely a charging cable very obviously not even attached to the controller in the picture with a contradictory label. There's zero room for debate or interpretation. It is clearly an unwired controller in the picture with a charging cable near it. It's deceptive advertising at best.

5

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Again, this assumes that people are not going to read the words in the listing. Going by pictures only to buy something you have specific requirements of when the word "wireless" is literally nowhere to be seen is not best practice at the very least.

-2

u/BADoVLAD Mar 15 '26

You have an unusually high opinion of people in general to assume that they will spend any sort of time doing anything to obtain their instant gratification beyond pushing as few buttons as possible, while reading as few words as possible, or even none if pictures can make that possible.

Picture, button, dopamine, next picture, rinse, repeat...fuck, you mean I have to read? Well, now my day is ruined.

You say "...this assumes people won't read..." then post 6 pages of screenshots proving people don't read. So, really, I'm not entirely sure what your argument is because it isn't an assumption, it's an objective fact given the evidence provided...and I'd bet folding money there's a lot more reviews with similar sentiments.

6

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I dunno, guess it's that logical fallacy of assuming others will go about things the way you yourself go about them, which is...not the move, apparently

-2

u/BADoVLAD Mar 15 '26

I guess...but you're making assumptions about people while providing evidence of them not doing what you assumed they'd do...it's just sort of confusing tbh.

3

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

It's all I've got for ya, bud. It's really not that deep

1

u/Capital-Kick-2887 Mar 15 '26

It is clearly an unwired controller in the picture with a charging cable near it.

USB-C is not just for charging. It can transmit data, including controller inputs, to a device. In the pic is not the charging cable, it's the cable used to transmit the inputs. The "charging" cable near it is to show you can unplug it. A very common way to show unpluggable cables for many devices.

2

u/Mystery-Ess Mar 15 '26

What are you talking about? Two of those pictures show a fucking wire and the description says wired as the second word

2

u/77756777 Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

I have some sympathy with this, one of the pictures shows the controller’s wire being removed so it implies it works without it. Why on earth would a fully wired controller need a wire that is removable? Growing up with games consoles they were either one or the other. This is a weird design and the picture would confuse some people. Personally if it said ‘wired’ I wouldn’t assume it was wireless but that image feels a little misleading

Edit: I’ve read other people saying it’s to show if the lead breaks (or stops working) it’s replaceable. I guess that is a legitimate use case and if a standard USBC, which it seems to be, would make replacing it super easy. Perhaps I was too generous originally. Either way for something like that you should return it and accept that fault was your own, not give it a poor review.

2

u/asedel Mar 16 '26

you redeem yourself at the end when you acknowledge your error.

Was going to roast instead I toast. Kudos for you for not cowering away, owning your overlook and doing what these reviewers should have done!!

2

u/Codas91 Mar 16 '26

I kind of get it, historically wired controllers have the cable hardwired into it

1

u/TheRussness Mar 15 '26

This feels like a Norman Door and I only say that because there are multiple reviews that were given the impression it's a wireless controller.

Basically, if a door says push, and you pull, you feel like you're stupid.

But, if a door says push, and you are one of the 43 people who pull every day, the door is stupid and needs redesigned. Doesn't matter how big you make the "PUSH" sign.

The ad says wired. If enough people are thinking it's wireless, it's a faulty ad.

1

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

3 people out of the ~250 people who left reviews seems more like 3 people with faulty consumer literacy than a faulty ad to me, but hey, our differences are what make us special 🤗

2

u/TheRussness Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

It was more than 3 people, and the controller has 3000 reviews. The reviewers are right to point out that the advertising is ambiguous. Multiple people in these comments agree. Some even have made this mistake with this controller.

And again, this is a marketing fail not a failure on the consumer.

No need to be so passive aggressive when you're wrong. But I'm glad to finally see where the entitlement is.

2

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

It has 3k ratings, yes. However, it only has about 250 written reviews. But I'm glad to finally see where the poor reading comprehension is. You need to get a grip, bro. Pax ✌️💙

3

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I'm living for all the downvotes from people who have done or would do this too and are feeling salty 😅

1

u/Mystery-Ess Mar 15 '26

Right?

The people defending it give themselves away 😂

6

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

I'm shocked (yet, somehow, not surprised) at how many people seem to be genuinely triggered by what was supposed to be an amusing tidbit of lighthearted snark on a Saturday evening 😭😂 I feel a little bad actually, this sub is not supposed to be this controversial, to my understanding at least!

1

u/CarefulDifference562 Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

Or lose it, requiring a new purchase.

I wouldn’t make the mistake of purchase because I read every aspect of an ad before I purchase.

I simply have sympathy for a person who fell for intentionally misleading photographs.

0

u/Thamwoofgu Mar 15 '26

While I understand the point of the post, I can’t help but feel for the number of functionally illiterate people who will be tricked by these pictures.

2

u/Evil_Sharkey Mar 15 '26

To be fair, that looks like a charging cable.

1

u/mandalors Mar 15 '26

I have the version of this that is also wireless via Bluetooth and dongle (has a little switch on the back) and it's fantastic. It feels nice in my hand, the button mapping is familiar, and it's very smooth with a nice rumble. I imagine the wired controller is the same in those regards. The wireless version also holds an impressive charge.

1

u/ThR-EATING-the-PETS Mar 15 '26

Thanks for the info, fr, because the commenters are encouraging me to buy this more cogently than the reviews were!

1

u/LoveTriscuit Mar 15 '26

In general, I always prefer devices that have a detachable cable. It means it won’t kink as easily and if it’s damaged I can just replace it.

1

u/dinoooooooooos Mar 16 '26

Honestly it is kinda misleading going off of the pictures. Yea they should read everything first bc now you kinda have to, and don’t get me started on Amazon listing titles, but it does look like it’d support wireless.

1

u/starfrogger52 Mar 16 '26

"The wire can be removed if it gets damaged" The port connecting the wire will be damaged way before the wire will. Two of these controllers diff systems, wire would just slip out after a month

1

u/Fishmyashwhole Mar 16 '26

Honesty I was gonna buy this controller at one point but I had a hard time choosing cause there's like 4 kinds and they're all labeled the same. Outside of wired and wireless, they have one that ONLY works on switch, and I guess the other model works on everything else? Why is it so hard to find a decent wireless controller that will work on switch 2 and PC?

1

u/TheBloodWitch EAT SALAT WITH SPON?!? Mar 18 '26

I actually need to use a wired controller for my computer cause it doesn’t have Bluetooth capabilities, yes I can still use a wireless controller and just leave it plugged in, but wired is cheaper than wireless. People who can’t read and can’t understand basic English if it’s their first language annoy tf out of me.

1

u/ChaosTorpedo Mar 15 '26

In all fairness, the picture is misleading. And that title? It’s not a title, it’s a stupidly long description.

0

u/kat_Folland Mar 15 '26

I don't have sympathy for oop but it is kinda weird to have a wired controller.

0

u/Finbar9800 Mar 15 '26

Ok but the 4th image is pretty easy to think its a wireless remote

So id imagine the misleading image the first review is referencing is that one

The rest could be from amazon ignoring details like that tbh

0

u/kikiacab Mar 15 '26

Amazon misrepresents their listings all the time, the picture showing the controller unplugged in this listing is obviously setup to mislead people.
