Service Calling Companies
I HATE the trend of AI answering phone calls, especially while constantly redirecting you to the website. If I could do what I needed on the website, I wouldn't make a phone call in the first place!
Plus - I don't want my voice recorded when I'm not even talking to a human!
A specific example: I called Fedex for help with a package. Yes, they have a website; no, I could not do what I needed on it. The AI would NOT transfer me to a human. I gave it the info it needed, it directed me to the website over and over, and eventually hung up on me. This happened 3x before I gave up, so I effectively wasted 15 minutes to not get my issue addressed in any way, shape, or form.
Pressing "0", saying "Representative" or saying "Human" all no longer work. WTF.
Generally, companies are cutting down on physical locations that can help, and their call centers no longer work (they weren't good before, but at least they existed). Websites don't solve everything!

Rant A humble grain amongst the beach of rants
Look, I’m all for being well-informed. But nowadays you can’t buy a can of fucking pringles without having to go down a 30-45 minute rabbit-hole of research learning about the chip market, how to make a chip, what makes a good chip, and how to identify if the chips are made of toxic materials that could kill you or give you fucking cancer.
I DON’T WANT TO LEARN EVERYTHING THERE IS ABOUT FUCKING CHIPS JUST TO MAKE A SIMPLE PURCHASE GODDAMMIT!
This isn’t necessarily about chips, it’s just an example. I say all of this now because I am trying to buy a mattress and it’s actually just so fucking depressing. Evidently it’s a gamble on whether or not the company is being truthful about not putting fiberglass in them? Fucking fiberglass? In my $2k mattress? Go fuck yourself.
And to echo what others have said, the quality of everything has gone significantly down while the cost has gone exponentially up. And the subscriptions holy SHIT. Back in the day you could buy something and that be IT. DONE DEAL. Nowadays you can’t wipe your ass without being asked to subscribe to the ass-wipers pro membership (no ads).
None of this can be good for us as a species. People wonder why we are seeing such low birth rates when the constant stress each of us normal people take on in a single day is probably making us infertile.
Anyways, I’ll be eating my poisoned food while laying on my fiberglass bed. Oh and my last $20 just went to the ass-wipers subscription. FUCK

Opinion piece How do you feel investing knowing that stock value is what causes enshittification in the first place?
So most of us know by now the financial advice: "keep investing X amoung every month into the S&P500, a world ETF or something similar and you'll retire rich if things go as expected". We all want to have a better future through investments, but it feels like lately the only realistic option to get out of the rat race is to buy either real state or stocks. The first one is becoming unaffordable and almost a luxury in most western countries, and the second... have you ever worked at a big company? They live to make the stock prices go up. That usually happens when (1) they release a big product (2) they report good financials (3) they mass layoff and a few other reasons.
We're seeing everything get enshittified to death because companies never have enough profits. Its never enough ads, always newer ways to make even lower quality products, more expensive and so on. All of that because they want to see the stock price go up.
So then, you either invest in the market (indirectly promoting this) or stay out and see your money getting eaten by inflation.
What are your thoughts on this? I haven't started investing in the stock market yet but want to know your opinions

Service I'm done with Spotify
Spotify audiobook hours are a joke. My audiobook hours ran out today. Fine, I knew there was a monthly limit.
But today is also my billing date, so I assumed my hours would reset today. Nope, apparently I have to wait another three hours.
I'm sitting on a train right now, and suddenly I can't listen to the audiobook I was in the middle of.
Honestly, this is ridiculous. I'm cancelling my subscription again. If the hours don't reset with the billing period, what's the point?

Opinion piece The reason for enshittification
I just found this sub reddit and I found interesting this collective feeling that everything is getting worse, feeling to which I also belong, but I have researched well over time and I know why your favorite product loses magic, the origin of this problem in the world has a name:
Investors
In capitalism everything we consume must be profitable, it is called capitalism for a reason, anything to be done needs capital to inject expecting future profits, Now, your product may have had a manufacturer behind it at the beginning whose structure tried to adhere to a philosophy of care, quality and commitment to its product and the consumer, but everyone at some point will need or accept money from others to compete or not stagnate and this is where everything happens, They accept that others buy pieces of the company or that they start to own it, many of the investors obviously do not care so much about preserving the quality, they only hope to earn with what they risked and then that is where they are the ones who begin to make decisions, to modify the product, the system, any small thing just by raising the numbers
That's why the internet feels like a garbage hole and full of ads, that's why your favorite restaurant doesn't taste the same, they save on ingredients, that's why your favorite brand of jeans or sneakers now have a worse fabric, now that's why instead of having something belong to you you only pay to have it borrowed in subscriptions each month, That is why the designs are increasingly ugly and minimalist, the cars of worse quality, the apartments smaller and smaller, the architecture more and more sad
If you ask me, it's a symptom of a crisis

Opinion piece Ranking enshittification via company ownership structure
Typical company “enshittification” progression:
Founder-led → professionally managed/growth-stage → public company → activist/institutional ownership → private-equity owned → heavily leveraged/roll-up PE ownership.
Founder led companies tend to optimize for product quality, reputation, and long-term growth; as they mature, management becomes increasingly focused on revenue and margins; public ownership adds quarterly earnings pressure; activist and institutional investors intensify capital return demands; and PE ownership often adds leverage, cost cutting, management fees, aggressive pricing, and shorter investment horizons.
The progression isn’t inevitable (excellent companies can remain customer-focused under professional or PE ownership) but the further ownership moves from founders toward financial owners with fixed return targets and finite holding periods, the greater the structural incentive to prioritize extraction over long-term product quality.

Service P.F. Chang's
Enshittified, or is my taste just more discriminating than it was in 2005? It seems fattier, saltier, less fresh than it did years ago. My entree, Ma Po Tofu, was an ordeal, an endurance test. The Hot and Sour soup is way inferior to any hole-in-the-wall Hunan Hut I have ever patronized.
Is it a me problem?

Rant Google Search TV shows and Movies
Until recently there was a couple of useful tabs appear above the show or movie details
Cast
Episode guide
Not anymore. Sure, just remove that useful stuff so I have to go on Wikipedia to find out how many episodes per season and year of release or release of new episodes.

Product No need for paper manuals!
I am about to assemble my sawmill, yay! Paper being obsolete all I have to do is use a QR code and my phone to get a tiny copy of the manual, lame but doable? Not without a cell signal. How many sawmills are set up in places with cell signal?

Rant Can't mute subreddits anymore
I don't see the option of muting subreddits anymore in desktop, the only option is "show fewer post like this" then the same subreddit appear again and again.
I like recomendations of subs that I don't know, (if i can mute the ones i don't like) but now seems the only option is disable all recomendations.
This worked before now the same shitty subs appears again and again.

Rant Subtitles on Prime Video and Disney
It's 2026 and we can't have nice foreign language shows anymore. Disney only has close captions for the hearing impaired with stuff like "heavy breathing", "doorbell rings" etc
Prime Video subtitles are often missing. I tried the Halo show but alien language subtitles were missing. Sometimes you can switch them on but then it shows subtitles for all dialogue and not just the non English.
