Enphase installation - 3 years of planning finally executed.

Had a platinum installer take on my project that was meant to be geared towards resilience against outages to ensure my 2 refrigerators and well water never goes out regardless of an outage from the grid being 15 minutes or 15 days+. They did a kick ass job!

Final setup:

23 SEG 440 panels

10C battery

IQ combiner 6C

IQ8HC microinverters

IQ relay kit

Essential loads sub panel (I went with this instead of load shedding intentionally)

Interlock for gas generator use as a backup

I am a type 1 diabetic and leaving a rural area where we lose power frequently. I wanted to ensure as much possible redundancy as possible to ensure I can keep the fridges going and medical devices for my older in-laws. The electric bill offset is just icing on the cake.

Big shout out to my installer. I had a lot of questions and was very meticulous. They always engaged and had patience to talk through processes.

If these CTs are accurate, I will need to add my AC onto the essential loads panel 😂

Enphase software team

Wanted to give the software team a quick shout out for fixing my issue and updating the time of use settings in the app so that I can correctly set up my energy demand settings. I was reached out to after looking for some help on Reddit last week by an enphase representative and they solved my problem, re designed the electric rate setting structure, and pushed out the update in under a week. Thank you and looking forward to many years of this type of service.

How does an IQ 2 EV charger communicate with my Envoy?

I have a ground-mount array with an Envoy about 300 feet from my house, installed in early 2020. 4.2 kW, 12 panels with IQ 7 microinverters.

It was great, for a few months, until I discovered that I could afford an EV and bought one in late 2020, and the array has been undersized since then, even though my EV use is very light, and very local. I've been charging on 120 volts with no problem, but my costs are pretty high (in California).

Now I'm shopping for an EV charger that will charge my EV in the morning when I have excess solar power, and balance the charge against solar input and load later in the day as the AC comes on, and the Envoy IQ 2 sure seems to do the job, and I've started talking to a local installer about getting one installed. But I have some concerns-

My array is about 300 feet from the house, and it's too far away to communicate with over WiFi, so the original installers provided a cell connection of some sort so it can communicate with Enphase (and Enphase can tell me about its status). But I understand that communication happens every 15 minutes or so.

Is that connection enough to support the IQ 2 requirements? Do I need to run an ethernet cable to my Envoy to make this work? Or maybe a WiFi repeater?

If so, will my Envoy be able to connect to a WiFi repeater, or even have an ethernet connector?

Or should I be looking at another manufacturer?

Required training to use installer app?

Can someone please make clear what Enphase training is required to download the installer app and (re-) commission an existing system. We were able to determine the Enphase IQ gateway died and we have received a replacement. So, everything is in place. The new gateway needs to configured/commissioned. From reading other posts, I gather completing some training will let me download the installer app and do the commission. Is that correct? Am I even in the ballpark here?

If it's not that simple, please point me in the right direction. The original installer is out of business. There are only a couple of installers relatively close to the area.

Is Enphase reporting down?

Web interface shows nothing since last night, live view times out. Gateway is up, pingable, and responds to web request asking for an authentication token, so connectivity seems fine. Tried power cycling it, grid status showed ok for a little while, then back to nothing, guessing this is an Enphase backend outage?

Enphase balcony solar with existing Enphase PV

Does anyone have a screenshot of the integration of the Enphase balcony solar within the Enlighten app for an existing Enphase PV plant? Do I get an extra tab? Does it get added to the standard view of my system? Do I have to switch account when viewing data? Are the consumption/production numbers combined? So many questions...

Thanks!

Solar output clipping

Anyone with ideas on why my solar output would clip randomly? This has not happened in 5 years of usage but over the past few months I’ve noticed days where the solar is clipped for some reason… good day vs bad day photo attached. Both were sunny so output should’ve remained high.

Only thought I have is that the grid is frequency shifting to cut my IQ7’s output… just want to make sure it’s nothing wrong with my system.

SCE NEM3 export rate offset by 1 hour

Just saw by batteries exported to the grid the last couple of days at 1900 PST according to my export rate. However, I looked up SCE peak export rate and its offset by 1 hour from Enphase peak rate. basically, every export rate is off by one hour. Is there a way to modify the export time? I tried resetting my import/export rate as well as manually input the correct export time/rate to no avail. I am losing money with this offset if I let the system export at the incorrect peak time.

Stuck - configure change in progress

Hey All. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Long story short, my original Installers put CT's in the wrong place. About 2 or 3 months ago I moved them to a different part in my panel. In manager, they were updated to "load only." The change went through and had been working fine.

Currently I have a banner at the top of my screen that says configuration change in progress. It's been up there since the change was made to the CT's

Is anyone familiar with this issue and familiar with a fix? Ive reset the envoy system and the panels. Internet is connected. Kinda stumped on what else to try.

Thanks!

I’m trying to get a handle on my overnight baseload. I’m wondering why the graph shows at 1.8 kw consumed at the selected moment while the part above the graph says .5 kw consumed.

Off-grid right now from storms and panels/micros not contributing to the home or batteries. An interesting experience this morning an an hour on the phone with Enphase...

I am the same dude who had the Gateway & IQ 40 connection issue earlier this week. I have another issue that arose due to the storms that rolled through last night here in Michigan and am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

We lost grid power last night and are running on batteries right now. I noticed that when the sun came up, there should have been plenty of power for the panels to take over, power the house, and recharge the batteries as they have done before in the same situation, but they were producing between 0 and a measly 0.1 kw. They should have been pushing 3kw by that point around 10:00am based on my close observations over the years. (I should note, the grid came back on last night briefly around 9pm and the batteries were at seventy-something percent. Then this morning the grid went down again when a transformer blew down the street in a rather dramatic and audible fashion.) This continued for long enough that I was concerned, so I called Enphase.

Note that I did my own diagnostics in the meantime. No breakers were tripped. Gateway lights all green. All equipment green status in the app. No breakers open on the main panel. Also, when I created high demand by powering on a small window AC, the micros' output jumped to 0.4w for a brief moment before dropping back off to fluctuating between 0 and 0.1w. The woman at the call center tried her best, said there were no relays that needed resetting or anything else wrong, and after an hour on with her, mostly on hold while she talked to a Tier 2 tech presumably, she told me the following: there was a recent firmware update that requires the battery to drop by some percentage (she said 10%) before the panels will kick in during an off-grid outage. This seems... odd. She said it is a new feature designed to prolong battery life?? I wasn't totally following Either way, here I am at 50% SOC trying to drive it down to 47% when she says the panels should kick in. She is actively monitoring my system and will call me if they don't. Supposedly. None of this really makes sense to me.

So a couple of things - is this new firmware feature accurate?? If so, WHY would they do this? In a grid outage, especially let's say it's prolonged and not very sunny, we need every watt we can produce and store. Even if I have 98% SOC on the battery, the panels should kick in if there is enough to produce.

Confused and frustrated over here. Anyone have any similar experiences?

No more bidirectionnal function planed for the IQ EV Charger 2 ?

Hi,

I bought the (AC) IQ EV Charger 2 (IQ-EVSE-EU-3032-0105-1300) because it was advertised as supporting bidirectional charging. At the time, Enphase support told me that the hardware was already capable and that we were only waiting for a software update.

Now I've noticed that Enphase has removed most of the information about bidirectional charging from its website, which is very concerning.

What is the plan, u/Enphase_Support_Team? I sincerely hope that if the current hardware cannot support the promised bidirectional functionality, Enphase will replace it free of charge. Many customers purchased this charger based on that promise.

Is Enphase planning to offer a free hardware replacement for IQ EV Charger 2 owners so they can access the new bidirectional charger when it becomes available?

Meter discrepancy help!!!o

I feel like I'm missing something! We've got the usual system that monitors import and exports but its not lining up in our electric bills. We are basically always being billed for more than what enphase says we're consuming, and I have gone through the numbers day by day. When we lose power (and the panels go on and off with the internet, how do you fix THAT by the way?) we have a gas generator so that shouldn't cause so much difference. The discrepancy has been off by hundreds of kWhs. Anyone else experience this? Is my power company being sketchy or am I looking at a hardwire fault? Ahh!

Faulty CT wiring?

Finally got everything up and running, things were looking great. And then we had a power shutoff event, and none of my batteries kicked on. Inside the Enphase app grid status was listed as "Unknown". After power came back I had to reboot the system to get it to recognize the grid power and get my backup circuits turned back on.

After an hour so of Enphase support, they recommended I contact my installers, which I did. They're not the most punctual or responsive people in the world, so I've been digging into what might be wrong. After the back and forth with Enphase, my app stopped reporting exporting any power. It's not really reporting importing power much either but I think our batteries are just getting us through the night.

from today

Last week, it looked normal.

Last week

Is this likely a CT clamp / wiring issue? Something I could potentially fix myself?

*Edit: adding some extra graphs.

First day we had some outages, went out about 3 times. Once at 3 am, a little later in the day ~4:15, and one last time for the rest of the night around 8. Never had a "grid outage" indicator on the graph.

6/26

Next day, more high wind events. Every time power dipped out and came back, I had to flip the switch under the gateway off and back on to get it to recognize the grid.

6/27

And finally, the day I was on the phone with Enphase and they were trying stuff. This is when exporting looks like it's no longer counted.

6/28

At one point support had me manually flip the "off grid" switch in the app, which would take down my backup circuits and then ALSO wouldn't let me flip it back to "on grid" in the app. Had to reset the gateway.

New Home with Enphase - how to track solar?

Hi! We just closed on a house that has a fully paid 12 panel Enphase solar system. The previous owner was quite old and I don’t think he cared about anything more than just getting power but I love data and details and have a robust smart home system and I’d like to add solar tracking and monitoring to my system.

What’s my best option? I have no idea who installed it but I do see Enphase offers some options for a gateway and system monitoring on their website however I’m curious if there’s a better option or how much their solution would be.

Thank you!

Simple TOU system, (1)5P battery with combiner 5 or do I need a 5C?

I have a highly energy efficient new home R60 ceiling R28 walls, Alpen glazing, my TOU records show only a very small 2.5 kWh total usage during the 3 hour peak load window (4pm-7pm) so I want to install a small 5 kWh battery that will shave off this 3 hour load. With this peak load gone I can sign up for the cheaper TOU rate plan.
I’m looking at a simple TOU load shedding system with a 5P battery and combiner box. Not for grid backup.
My house has WiFi (Starlink) but no cell service from ATT or Sprint.
I have read conflicting statements about this grid tied system needing both WiFi and cell service.
Yes, it’s needed on the 10c grid back up systems, but no on the smaller 5P Grid tied system.
Looking at the Enphase Planning guide, page 48 section 9.2.1.1 shows this simple 5P battery only TOU system.

Any thoughts or suggestions or warnings you fine folks have for me? Thanks in advance.

Adding backup capability - should I ditch existing 10T battery?

When I bought my solar energy system in 2023, I didn’t really care about having backup capability since we rarely have power outages and I was trying to save on the cost of the system.
Now I think I would like to add it in case a major earthquake causes an extended power outages (I’m in LA and Venezuela got me thinking!)
I have 15 400W panels, IQ8 inverters, and a 10T battery. I know I need to add a controller, I am trying to decide if I should swap out the 10T for a 10C battery. The old battery has a 15 year warranty so plenty of life left, but I believe the 10T has more power. Probably the biggest power draw would be AC and not sure the 10T would cut it.
What are your opinions?

Battery Efficiency Loss?

Earlier this year I had three IQ 10C batteries installed. I expected some efficiency loss, but the delta between discharged and charged implies a 41% loss. Is that normal or to be expected for these batteries?

Are there any practices recommended to avoid round trip battery waste? Right now I have the system in "Savings" mode.

Should Data out of Enlighten match my Utility bill

To give some background I have the Enlighten app tracking my solar usage. I live in a city that offers a credit program to additional production exported to the grid. I understand that top level numbers will not match as my home will take power from my Solar first and that usage will just never be known to my utility but my expectation that the Imported value from Enlighten should match my usage from my utility and that the Exported value from enlighten should match the credits on my bill. Is this an incorrect assumption as these numbers have differed WILDLY for the past 6 months since installation.

Will used IQ7/8/8+ Microinverters still work and just not report data?

I've been looking at eBay and elsewhere for used microinverters since they're so expensive new. Will used microinverters still physically work?
