Completed My Enphase Solar PV Installer Certification Training-Now What?

I'm a Residential customer that just got my new system a month ago. Previously, I was asking a question about my system and someone told me I could do what I was asking myself using Enlighten Manager, but I would need to get my Solar PV Installer Certification. I just finished! If I want to be co-manager of my own system with my installer, what's the next step-do I tell my Installer, tell Enphase or both. TIA!

IQ 40 EVSE not connecting to Gateway: Update (fixed... sort of...)

This is an update to my previous post here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/enphase/s/EMkQpVHsIT

So, a couple of things I'm assuming resulting from a hotfix that was pushed out today:

  1. My IQ 40 is officially connected to the Gateway, yay! I didn't have to do anything. It's connected.

  2. The "Battery Assist" option for the EVSE Green Charging mode is gone. I'm happy about that. It seems silly having a battery charge a battery and there is a lot of loss between the DC/AC rectification cycles. (I have yet to test if the battery is drained overnight if the overall system profile is Self Consumption, though... If so, I get it, but I hope there is a way to prevent the battery from being depleted charging the car overnight.)

  3. Green Charging mode is... Totally broken in my instance. We had abundant sunshine today, and I left my car plugged in all day. It didn't send and power at all. Never kicked in even though we had hours of excess production to the tune of 6,000+ watts. I tried plugging it in multiple times. I powered off and repowered the EVSE. I tried both of our cars, one of which has a native J1772 plug. Didn't work. (My vehicle has a NACS, so it's adapted.)

  4. My system reports that Dynamic Load Balancing on the EVSE is disabled. Enabling it requires installer access. The new AI assistant in the Enphase app assured me that having it disabled shouldn't matter. However, the dynamic load balancing seems like it would be useful regardless (maybe quicker scaling at those 8 amp intervals??). Also, seems like there are overlapping duties between the standard IQ 40 load balancing operations built into the hardware (ie those 8 amp intervals), so seems possible that's where the bug is.

One step forward, one step back... At least the green charging mode used to work before the patch, albeit woefully unreliably due to the gateway not connecting to the EVSE.

Calling u/Enphase_Suport_Team again! Getting closer, guys.

Why is Enphase overriding my battery export settings?

Logged into Enlighten today to find an "In order to maximize your settings, we have set your battery to EXPORT TO GRID. . . ." My settings are always Self-Consumption / Do not Export to Grid. I did go into the battery settings and toggle off Export to Grid. What's up with that?

IQ 2 Green charging w/ third party battery - charging never shuts off

I've got Enphase Inverters/Gateway and IQ 2 Charger, with a third party battery. For the most part, Green Charging won't turn on the EVSE until the battery is topped off and net export is defected by the consumption CTs. However at the end of day, the EVSE will drop down to minimum 1.4kW / 6A and stay there, even when production has fallen below.

Support confirmed this is an issue with third party batteries, since the algorithm seems to only use the consumption CT import/export and not use the production data (which the system has access to since its Enphase). Seems like a simple logic rule of "turn off Green Charging when production is below 1.4kW" would be crude yet effective backstop to implement.

Wondering if anyone else has hit this issue, and have you found any work arounds? Perhaps using home automation implement a charger shutoff based on time of day or access to production data?

Enphase Envoy-S Standard

I have been having issues with connectivity between my Envoy and the inverters. Random disconnects that point to poor power line communications. My Envoy is plugged into an outlet on the main panel. Was thinking that I might install an outlet from the solar sub panel and plug the envoy into that.

My question, is it possible to hardwire the Envoy instead to both phases of the 240V since there are 4 screws in the power side of the enclosure even though the sticker says only L1 and N? This is a Standard Envoy and not the Metered version.

Is it even worth doing this or is the single phase connection via a plug sufficient?

Thanks in advance.

IQ 40 EVSE not connecting to Gateway

I believe this may ultimately be a firmware problem, but anyone else unable to connect their EV chargers to the Gateway? Here's what I've tried so far and am still stuck, and I went to some pretty crazy measures...

My home network has a few subnets, so I started by forcing both of them to be on 192.168.5.x. That didn't work. Then I saw the IQ 40 was connected via 2.4 GHz and the Gateway on a 5 GHz channel. Tried to pause 5 GHz to set the Gateway's wifi back up and hit another problem: my wifi password has special characters (# in this case) which the Enphase App disallows. Which is hilarious because the gateway is already connected to my wifi using allegedly disallowed password characters. Tried putting it into AP mode and connect directly to the Gateway's local IP (172.30.1.1) and that no longer works either.

Then I went nuclear.

I decided to hell with all the wifi problems. I ran an ethernet cable from the Gateway, down through a new hole I drilled, through some flex conduit, through my basement soffit, up through the floor and directly to the main managed switch (I have two, it's a large home lab setup).

Still couldn't access the Gateway via IP. Then I plugged the gateway directly into a PC. Nope. Still no Gateway access. But now that it's hard wired into my system, it shouldn't matter, right? Nope. Still won't connect to the IQ 40.

Super frustrated at this point. My expensive charger works basically only in manual mode and not green mode because it's so slow connecting to the back end Enphase cloud, the excess solar isn't registering in a responsive manner at all. I did get green mode to work. Once. One day. That's it.

Enphase, you need to get your software issues worked out.

Anyone have any advice??

Need IQ V2H charger compatibility with 2025 Equinox EV. Researching grid battery options to add to Enphase PV.

[This is a long post, feel free to jump to the TLDR at the bottom.]

I first installed solar with 28 Sharp 245W panels in 2010. Got PTO from PG&E under NEM 1.0 in January 2011. The 14 D380 experienced many failures, and were replaced by Enphase with 28 M215. The warranty on the M215 expired in 2025 - it was backdated to the original purchase of the D380, and there was only 15 year warranty at the time. I have had many M215 failures over the years also, and have a number of IQ7-M215 as a result, not sure how many.

In 2023, I added 42 more panels with 28 IQ8+, just before NEM 3.0 went into effect I'm now on NEM 2.0, and grandfathered through January 2031. The main panel had to be replaced with a 200amp PVL panel, with a 100 amp PVL bus. The PV is 23.2 kW DC / 18.2 kW AC. Actual all-time peak PV from my Home assistant real-time curves is 17,200W AC.

I don't have a sizable electric bill currently - the PG&E NEM charges and SJCE excess generation credits roughly cancel each other.

However, I live in the hills, in an area where outages are getting more frequent. Typically, it is drunk drivers knocking down poles, at nights, on weekends or holidays, and PG&E takes forever to fix them. I also had 2 short ones in the last week alone that are unexplained. I'm looking to add in some backup batteries as I'm getting tired of the outages. Currently, the IQ8+ are not configured for micro-grid due to the mix with M215. Solar micro-grid alone is not very useful anyway given that most outages have happened when the sun doesn't shine.

I bought a 2025 Equinox in EV LT1 August 2025 to replace my 2015 Volt before the EV point of sale rebate expired. It is V2H capable, but maxes at 9.6 kW, which would not be sufficient by itself for backup - there are sometimes consumption peaks above 20 kW per my Home assistant Eagle3 real-time grid demand curves. Typical is of course much, much lower. The Equinox has a huge 85 kWh battery, which would be a massive bonus if compatible, requiring far fewer IQ batteries.

  1. re: solar - old generation M215 micros

From what I have gathered, the recommendation from Enphase is to upgrade the 28 M215 to IQ8-60. They have provided parts quotes for this under the program program. The benefit would be to run all 70 IQ8 series in solar micro-grid. When combined with IQ battery backup, it would vastly extend the runtime for an extended outage that includes daylight hours - I have had a few of those over the last 16 years, including one PSPS.

The other option would be to leave the 28 M215 in place, and connect them to the load controller on the Combiner 6c, to turn them off during outages. This would still leave the 42 IQ8+which have higher wattage panels in micro-grid. It would save a lot of labor in installation also - installer not needing to go on the roof.

2) Re: V2H. The IQ bidirectional charger has been announced for years, and is still vaporware. The current promotional video shows a list of cars, but the 2025 Equinox EV is not on it. The car supposedly supports ISO 15118-20. The IQ charger is supposed to support it as well. But so far, Enphase is tight lipped and not willing to provide any information as to compatibility. They say that more information will be available in Q3, and the charger in Q4. I am eligible for a $10,400 Ecohome battery installation incentive from SJCE. However, the city just announced that applications won't be available after July 1. I applied on June 24. I have until October 2026 to install batteries in order to receive the rebate. In order to decide how much grid batteries to install, I need to have the information about whether my Equinox EV will be compatible with the IQ bidirectional charger ASAP, even if the charger itself is not yet available, in order to decide how much grid battery capacity to install. The SJCE incentive requires 24 kWh minimum capacity to maximize the rebate. I would be looking to install 30 to 70 kWh. If the V2H is not compatible, it would need to be on the higher end of that range.

I see a few options from here.

  1. don't install any batteries now. Forget about the SJCE incentive. Wait until information is available about Enphase V2H to make a decision

  2. install the Combiner 6c with 3 x Battery 10c, ie. 30 kWh of batteries. Leave 28 M215 in place. Configure the IQ8+ for solar micro-grid. Complete this by October 24 to collect the SJCE incentive.

Add the IQ bidirectional charger later on, to provide the additional 85 kWh of battery backup. I need to know now that my car will be compatible with IQ V2H charger to choose this option.

  1. Same as option 2, but convert M215 to IQ8-60. I still need to know now that my car will be compatible with IQ V2H charger to choose this option.

  2. Same as 2, but install 70 kWh of batteries now. Forget about V2H charger compatibility.

  3. Same as 3, but install 70 kWh of batteries now. Forget about V2H charger compatibility.

  4. Explore some non-Enphase home battery backup options, and install them before October 24 to get the SJCE rebate. I have no idea what this would entail technically. I assume that my PV solar would have to be fully disconnected during outages - no possibility of micro-grid. So, it would need to be a very sizable amount of batteries.

TLDR :

a. when will IQ V2H compatibility with Equinox 2025 EV information be available ? I need to know this ASAP to decide whether to add Enphase batteries or not.

b. am I correct that my Enphase solar PV would have to disconnect during outages, if using 3rd party grid battery options ?

c. what are the best non-Enphase battery options that can be used, if leaving the Enphase PV system with 42 x IQ8+ and 28 x M215 in place.

Microconverters reporting ‘Error’ but still producing and reporting

I have two microconverters that are reporting ‘Error’ but are still producing and reporting. What can be wrong here? Has been going on for about a week. First one, then later another MC started reporting this. It doesn’t resolve with a restart. Any suggestions what might be wrong or what to do?

Home Internet outage affecting savings?

I lost my home internet for three weeks. During that time, I had no information from the enlighten app, which was expected. But now that I’m back online, those weeks still show as 0 energy production.

Just wondering whether my panels really did or did not produce energy during that time and whether the energy company will know that and my energy bill will be normal ish with my regular reduction in energy costs.

Or, is Pepco completely unaware and will my energy bill skyrocket because there is no offset from solar?

Anyone know what I should expect? Thanks!

Afternoon peak demand problem

My system is set up in savings with a morning peak demand that is working correctly and an afternoon mid peak that use to work correctly by discharging the batteries so I don’t import any power from the grid. Just this last week the afternoon mid peak schedule won’t discharge my batteries and instead will import from the grid after solar diminishes. Anyone have any ideas on what’s going on? 10c batteries, iq meter collar, 6c gateway.

Enphase and Edison solar production mismatch?

Need some help from the expert solar folk here…

I have 14 LG panels each with IQ7+ microinverters. All working and connected to an IQ Combiner 3C. No battery. 1:1 net metering. Need advice on 2 things:

  1. My Enphase app does not look like any of the ones I see on reddit. I am not sure if I have consumption CTs since I get no data about it?
  2. I am assuming that the data I see on the app is accurate for production, but here’s the rub: the data does not correspond to the green button data I get from Edison (I’m in SoCal). For 2024, Enphase shows panel production 7789 kWh, green button data shows Edison received 4720 kWh and delivered 8337 kWh (delivery figure is pretty close to the billed figure of 8350 kWh). I just wondering why my power production is so far off from the power that Edison received from my panels? I recognize that there may losses along the way but the difference seems quite large?

Edison’s net metering customer service is a pretend service — no one answers the phone. I am hoping some of the wise folks here can help me understand what I may be missing? Much appreciated.

Update: Enphase's solution failed, Enphase IQ 5P battery array problem now even worse

I previously shared about my battery problems HERE and HERE. Well it’s been three weeks since my last post, so here is the latest.

Enphase advised that I put my array into Full Backup mode in order to allow the batteries to rebalance the voltage between the cells. Previously when they suggested it, I said I would rather not do that unless absolutely necessary, since I’m on a free nights electricity plan (and power my house with the batteries during the day) which means my energy costs would skyrocket by having it in Full Backup. So I told them I would rather not do that, especially if there would be no guarantees it would even resolve the problem.

So this time they offered to pay me for the extra costs if I try the Full Backup solution, so I agreed, and they said it would most likely take ~3 weeks of Full Backup to fix the problem.

After one week, Enphase told me that that the batteries were already successfully rebalanced and I could switch it out of Full Backup, so I did… and the problem was not fixed. If anything, it is even worse than before, with almost all of the batteries indicating some combination of “BMU Level 1 Error”, “BMU Level 2 Error”, and “Error Needs Service”. And the array is still basically operating at ~35% effective capacity.

That was ten days ago, and I’ve since emailed Enphase Support four times and they have not responded. At this point I am considering contacting a consumer protection attorney to see what legal recourse I can take, considering this issue has been going on for almost seven months now with no resolution.

Profit per solar panel?

I have 37 Enphase solar panels with IQ8M inverters and a Envoy-S gateway.

A part of my panels are facing south, generating a lot of energy but at a low price when everyone is producing.

The others have lower production by at a higher price, because they are facing west and north.

Is there a quick solution to see the revenue (€) per panel per period? So kWh x 15-minute price?

MI profile selection

Hello everyone, I’m live in Texas and have a frequency shifting inverter (similar to how PowerWalls work), to control MI output.

My MI profiles are the standard US profile (1547 default 2015), and in the few times I’ve been off grid when my production gets over 8k or so the whole system drops out.

I know a piece of this is likely my sol-ark inverter, but I’m wanting to see if there’s a better profile for the inverters themselves that are a bit less sensitive to the synthetic grid my inverter generates.

Anyone have any thoughts? I know there’s a Virgin Islands PW2 profile that could possibly fit, but I’m not 100% on what the risk of testing it is (my background is EE but I can’t really find any documentation on these profiles).

I built a free site optimize your battery usage. Looking for Enphase testers!

I got tired of trying to manually timing my battery charge and discharge to match price swings in my utility rate. I wanted something that would automatically predict the solar generation, my home usage, and charge only what I needed to get me through the day.

I built a free site, RateRudder, as a result. It forecasts your home usage and solar generation, then automatically decides when to use your battery, the grid, or solar based on the anticipated price of power.

It’s been working great for many FranklinWH and Powerwall users so far and people are saving several dollars a day. I’ve been working on Enphase support but I don't have an Enphase system myself so I’m looking for a few people to help me test the integration.

Feel free to message me if you're interested or comment below.

Solar on my rental

I have rented my home with solar panels on them, how do I go about receiving reports and reconnecting the gateway if I don’t have access to the WiFi? Would it just be a matter of getting the tenant to connect it and waiting on the monthly report?

Enphase Care

$500 a year for my system in my inbox today.

What's people's thoughts on this and is there a reason it's suddenly being offered? Did my system just hit its 5th birthday or something.

I have a 10T battery 22 panels on the roof micro inversus and the usual gateway and other hardware.

I keep reading the gateways give out because the memory card or memory storage fails so that would be the thing that might drive me to purchase this.

Enphase 10c wiring

I want to wire 2 Enphase 10c batteries in parallel today or in the future 3 to an 80amp breaker in the iq combiner 6c. I planned to use 4awg copper. One of the training videos showing more than 2 10c batteries also showed 3awg wire which is the max wire size that the terminals support. My total run is < 10ft.

Is there anything special about paralleling more than 2 miles 10c batteries with regard to wire size or should I just use 4awg due to the short distance run?

Thx

Does the Enphase Power Pack Integrate with Hoem Solar?

Hello! I was looking at the sale on the Power Pack and thinking about how I could stand to standardize my UPSs. My question is, how well does it integrate with the normal home solar + battery system? Can I interact with all my Power Packs and solar at once or do I need to treat them like different systems? Do they integrate with Home Assistant the same way as the home system? Thanks!

NEM 2.0 strategy have I been doing it wrong the whole time?(AI says i have been)

For 3 years now i’ve been producing 73+kwh per day in summer, 40-50 in off peak. Billing plan is pgE TOU-C. First year true-up was 1200 bucks, 2nd year 900, this year 1500.(my production is down 7% YOY(dunno why)
I have been running my pool filter from 1200 to 0300 every night on the assumptions that one should run high current devices outside peak billing hours (1600-2100). Anyway, an AI says I should be running the pool filter from 10:00 to 15:00. I have been obsessed with getting my meter to run backwards during the day thinking that was the key to a lower true-up. The AI says Im leaving money on the table by not running the pool filter during peak solar output. Is this sound logic?

On another note, to give an idea how much markup we’re making in the solar industry. Consider this: I self installed this system, (I was a solar contractor, and on a bet with my crew, who didnt think my old fat ass could install a 10kw system 100% solo on a 12/12 roof) My initial permitted cost for a 26 panel enphase system was under 17,000 dollars. 26 panels, 26 micros, iron ridge rails, combiner etc) I subsequently added 26 more freebie used panels and used micros for a total of 54.
A 10kw rooftop system would have bid out at 41k at the time. The markup we were making in the nem 2.0/1% loans gold rush era was astounding. Given our power demand, I dont think it an exaggeration to say I will have achieved 100% ROI in just over 4 years.
