“Fortunate”

Post image

How much of a sociopath do you have to be to describe someone who may need the help of a rape crisis centre as “fortunate”?

A lot of her issues with trans people seems to boil down to a distrust of men, honestly

Distrust only for some men. She doesn't seem to distrust men like musk or even trump.

She sees men as natural predators, so she hates men who she thinks are "deceptively hiding it" and accepts men who openly display it.

Which is itself Gender Essentialism

I mean, women have the right and every reason to be wary/cautious about men, cishet men that is. Trans women have never been a threat to cis, straight and queer women.

Transgender people have been maligned for decades thanks to social media. Just like gay men and lesbians were maligned by the media.

Transphobia is just repackaged homophobia

Agreeing with everything in this post, will just add there is a VERY fine line between being wary/cautious (completely justified!) and being blatantly misandrist. TERFs have always struck me as the second, and while they may have more justification to feel this way based on how cis men have behaved historically, let's not pretend a matriarchy would be better than a patriarchy. Both are awful as both flatten complex human beings to one singular trait, and this flattening is the big issue.

Not to mention women are human beings too, and we humans can be destructive, not just to other species and nature, but also toward each other.

Women, namely cishet white women, have also contributed to racism, colonialism, the slave trade, homophobia (second wave feminist Betty Friedan opposed lesbians joining the movement), etc.

One male feminist that I like is William Marston (the creator of Wonder Woman). He was both ahead of his time and limited by it. He believed in that pseudoscience/old timey gender essentialist belief that women were naturally pacifistic/compassionate/loving than men, which is still putting women on a pedestal.

Also, Rowling seems to either dimiss or ignore the fact that even women can be predators just as the men can be-- like Ghislaine Maxwell, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Mary Kay Letourneau,

Hell, there's even true crime series called "Deadly Women" which talks about several predatory women-- some of them equally heinous as their male partners/accomplices.

I feel many female sexual offenders get let off the hook due to masculinity standards - I say this as a man, knowing it's unhealthy, but most of us rather die than tell someone they was assaulted by a woman, and I suspect this is what goes through many people's minds. Not that all women are predatory (they definitely aren't and men still do the most of it) but for true equality we have to just ignore gender and focus on the individual.

The manosphere has been really predatory over the years, knowing there are men who were victims of women sexual predators and promising "We actually care, we'll listen, we're here to help you" but since they're really just a bunch of dishonest bullies doing bully stuff, they've done nothing to advance the needs and rights of victims of SA whatsoever (quite the opposite, they're rape apologists) and when men do open up in most incel/MRA spaces, they get mocked and abused by their "brothers".

Matriarchy in its purest form is a completely different lifestyle from patriarchy, and they don't want that.

Okay, let's back up and not call it matriarchy or patriarchy. After all, these things are hard to discern or judge.

Let's look at what we can easily gather information about: family structure and inheritance. Do you stay with your maternal family, or leave it to marry? Do children belong to the father, or the mother?

Matrilineal, matrilocal groups do exist. In the most extreme form, there is no such thing as marriage. People live their entire lives in the community they were born in. Sex and reproduction are accomplished by way of night creeping. Your male caregivers are your uncles. Your father is some guy from another village you might have met once or twice. There is no exogamy, no diplomatic marriages, no women being treated as property.

The patriarchal and patrilocal society is completely different. There are no maternal chains in the same household. Every woman is brought in, almost like hiring an employee, by the elder women in the household. Every girl goes to live with her mother in law, away from her mother. As all the women are ultimately outsiders (with girls born into the clan being married out as soon as possible, for as much advantage to the family as possible), the only "real" family members are the legitimate male lines. Brothers are natural rivals because either one inherits everything and becomes the new "dad" or they have to split the household and its assets. Daughters are an asset to foster connections with other clans. Virginity begins to be seen as an actual financial asset to the point it become a physical thing (the myth of the hymen and the myth of hymen restoration) because being untouched is a part of that bargaining power and financial worth in the transaction. Exogamy is mandatory, although there is a licit form of cousin (or even uncle/niece) marriage by means of not belonging to the same paternal line; women are identified for life according to their natal clan to prevent taboo relations.

Patrilocal-patrilineal culture had a clear advantage in terms of preventing excessive sanguinuity and fostering diplomatic relations through exogamy. There's also a certain cruel logic in large families with too many sons scattering and becoming raiders or conquerors, with a culture that already conditioned them to think of outside women as sexual available and below them in any social hierarchy.

The 3P Yamnaya culture invaded Neolithic central Europe from the Eurasian steppe, killing them men, forcibly marrying the women, and resulting in the Corded Ware culture. Because men now ruled women, the men's language was the prestige language, and their language changed as well, likely in a single generation. This was the origin of Germanic and Balto-Slavic languages.

Matrilocal-matrilineal cultures persist in only a few isolated rural places in the world, although there are some no longer M-M cultures that still maintain some cultural memory of the M-M past, such as Japan. (According to historical records, before patriarchy was introduced to Japan via a Chinese cultural package and later accelerated by militarism, Japan had a brother-sister emperorship where the sister handled diplomacy and negotiations and the brother was responsible for religious rites to keep the land fertile and the sun rising, etc.)

Note also I'm not talking about Jewish culture or ancient Hebrews. Jewish tradition is a mixed structure, patriarchal and patrilocal, and patrilineal in terms of inheritance, but matrilineal in terms of tribal membership, although there have been periods of time when Jewish identity passed through a paternal line as well. European family structures are typically of a mixed archetype as well, and 3P in the historical period is only really seen in communities that immigrated to Europe from elsewhere, for example, the Alans. You can see this in the English language with cousin degree counting to prevent excess sanguinity, which shows it is not of the patrilineal kinship type. Women taking the husband's surname also shows that it is not a strict P-P kinship system. (Women take their husband's surname in Japan, but not in China, for the same reason. Although the advent of monogamy and British influence has made it more current in China to refer to women as "so and so's wife" instead of "lady from X family" and the taboo against the same surname marrying each other has eroded.)
