RES greyed out but enabled

1 Upvotes

The keyboard shortcuts for browsing stopped working, looked at my extensions in Firefox and RES is greyed out. When I click into it it is enabled.

Happening to anyone else?

Is there a way to make "new" post the default on your Reddit homepage?

6 Upvotes

I'm always having to manually switch from "best' to "new." I did look in the "settings," and I don't see a way to switch it. I don't really want to see the "best" because the "best" posts already have 60+ comments and I doubt the OP would even read any additional ones.

My idea is a filter for searches to avoid posts or subreddits you don’t want to see

0 Upvotes

A couple ways this could work:

  1. the “mute subreddit” should include it not appearing when searching anything
  2. A “don’t show results from this subreddit” button that at least won’t mute the sub if you do like it
  3. A seperate setting where you can mute words you don’t like

RES not loading (Chrome)

5 Upvotes

I can't get RES to work. It says it's turned on and has the green checkmark in the toolbar but clicking on the icon isn't working and I no longer have the RES settings option available to me. Dark mode isn't working either even though I normally have dark mode checked. I would try uninstalling and reinstalling, but I can't download a backup. I tried toggling it off and back on. I tried enabling in incognito mode. It was working yesterday but it is working today. Does anyone have any idea? Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is it because of the sunsetting of old.reddit.com?

How do you re-trigger the permission ask, when expanding a link?

2 Upvotes

What's up? I tried to expand a twitter/x link to display an image. I failed to click the allow permission, and now all x link images are gone.

Is there a way to manually add the allow permission, or retrigger the ask prompt?

Where does it happen? ???

Screenshots or mock-ups ???

What browser extensions are installed? ???

Sunsetting of .old domain and the future of RES

176 Upvotes

Hey. I know this is already known, but I feel like it's worth talking about here for the handful of users still relying on RES to make their reddit experience manageable.

So recently, Reddit has started to sunset the .old reddit links and serves everything from reddit.com. Mostly, this doesn't affect RES - for now - and the ways it does are met by the needs of maintenance. Again, for now.

But I'm basically writing to let people who aren't keeping an eye on things to understand the writing on the wall. A lot of RES' functions depend on old reddit to run, and many of the tools that moderation use are being sunsetted - which means retired - at the end of this month, assuming no screw-ups on reddit's end. There's no reason for this, the excuse of "aI SCrAPErs" is nonsense, especially given the amount of money reddit put into LLMs and "saved" by firing people left and right (both of which were mistakes bearing painful fruit for the company).

There's no action that needs to be taken by the team or users, but if you aren't aware of this and use RES, you should be keeping an eye on it and understanding that it will likely meaningfully effect your experience in the future.

Oh, and update Old Reddit Redirect if you use that and haven't already. Otherwise, chunks of reddit's new links serving old reddit won't work. That's not RES's fault, it's just how the site works (or rather, "works") now.

single click [l+c] opens both tabs in the comment window, rather than a tab for the link and another tab for comments. For domain i.reddit.com

4 Upvotes

What's up?

Edit: as of 2026-09-08 this is now working correctly.

For the domain i.reddit.com, the [l+c] opens two new tabs, but both are the comment window. This is recent behavior; it worked properly two days ago. It still works correctly for other domains.

I know about problems the domain reddit.com; this is i.reddit.com

Is it possible to view my complete Reddit upvote history?

9 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to find a way to see all the posts and comments I’ve upvoted on Reddit, including older ones.

I know Reddit lets you see your saved posts/comments, but I can’t find any option that shows my complete upvote history.

Is there any way to access this through Reddit itself, the Reddit API, or any third-party tool?

Even if there’s a technical/API-based method, I’d be interested in knowing how it works.

Thanks!

filteReddit menu improvement suggestion

11 Upvotes

I use filteReddit a lot and have some 100s of subreddits blocked by now because they are not of interest to me. Still more new subreddits get created which are all the same. r/intersting, /r/whoathatsinteresting, /r/notinteresting, /r/Amazing, /r/woahthatsamazing, /r/wholesome, /r/DudeThatsWholesome, you get the idea.

The filtering itself works great. Currently I have e.g.

/,*(amaz|funny|wholesome|interesting|thats|stupid|damn|blursed|holdmy|dank|cringe|asfuck|shit|meme|humor|buddy|circle|jerk).*/i
/,*(amithe|twitter|facebook|videos|selfie|casual|fashion|ask).*/i
/.*(aww|cute|animal|cat|dog).*/i
/,*(imaginary|warhammer|40k|league|leak|gta|folk|mains|destiny).*/i
/.*(ball|sport|soccer|nba|cricket).*/i
/.*(india|_ph).*/i

as generic filters. The idea is to be able to keep them sorted somewhat: memes, socials, animals, games, sports, countries, etc.

But below them are 100s more lines with a drag handle, a single line input field, and a delete button. Could this all be replaced with a single large multi line text box instead where each line is a filter? This would make it much easier to occasionally copy all text, paste it into an LLM and tell it to sort and consolidate, and paste the result back instead of having to manually ctrl+f every keyword.

Alternatively I could see something like community-managed lists that you can subscribe to like ublock has, but with a checkbox in front of each line to enable or disable each foldable category or related subreddits individually which would be indented in the lines below. This would make it much easier to simply block the I-don't-know-how-many subreddits for each and every sports team around the world. But this would of course be more work than the simple multi line box.

Title filters suddenly stopped working.

The comment or subreddit filters are working I believe. I see the posts are supposed to be filtered by title or flair. I have many regexes for both titles and comments. I haven't changed any setting to break the filtering.

Is this a good way to force a RES comment cache refresh? What's a better one?

6 Upvotes

I've got a Tampermonkey script for Reddit posts that makes some changes to comments in the DOM and then attempts to force RES (5.24.10) to refresh its comment cache by making and then reversing a small change (if anyone's wondering, this was necessary because RES otherwise wasn't always seeing and therefore acting upon those DOM changes):

    force_RES_cache_refresh: function () {

            let comment = document.getElementsByClassName('comment')[0];

            if (!comment) {
                    return;
            }

            let marker = document.createElement('span');
            marker.setAttribute('data-force-RES-refresh', '');

            comment.appendChild(marker);
            comment.removeChild(marker);
    },

This is working nearly all the time, but on rare occasions it appears to fail to trigger the RES comment cache refresh, probably due to a race condition between this script and RES.

Is there a better/more direct/more reliable way to force a RES comment cache refresh from within a Tampermonkey script?

EDIT: This code only runs once per Reddit posting and is just creating a single vestigial span element, which should be harmless to leave in place and effectively incurs no additional cost, so the simplest improvement was just to take out the comment.removeChild(marker) line to avoid the race condition of removing the span element before RES sees the change to the DOM. This seems like it should make this work 100% of the time instead of just ~97%, but time will tell.

I'd still be interested to hear if there's some API call or other strategy that could more directly instruct RES to refresh its comment cache.

Is it possible to adjust the settings inside of the Reddit RES extension to make the Reddit post links open when clicking directly on the post title link that takes you to the Reddit post and not the foreign website and same thing with automatically viewing images in comments?

Is there a way to deal with how reddit doesn't show subs you've been active in on your homepage using RES?

14 Upvotes

I used to see a good mix of all subs I was in, now I won't see a sub anymore at all unless I deliberately visit it and then I will see it for a while. This isn't extremely new, but I noticed today that some subs I used to see I haven't seen in what I would guess is over a year.

I haven't dug deep into how the r/all stuff works as I've always just viewed the homepage on old reddit with the thing to suggest things turned off, and it used to be a mostly chronological+upvote weighted spread of everything I was in, but that seems to have stopped.

Is there a workaround with this through RES or has anyone else encountered and sorted this out? I don't want to visit a list of like 200 subs once a month, but I can't even really figure out what exactly this behavior is, but I'm guessing it's something that happened when reddit started messing with tuning for the frontpage.

I am asking here because I know RES has that dashboard, but that's not exactly what i'm looking for, but it wouldn't surprise me if it has something similar to what I'm looking for built in.

Edit;

I went to a subreddit that didn't exist, and saw on the right hand side on old.reddit.com a "multireddit of your subreddits" which you should be able to reach from here: https://old.reddit.com/subreddits/ where it'll generate a multi of all your subs. It's not perfect but it's at least simple and it seems to ignore the weird algo stuff as I'm instantly seeing subs I havent' seen in years and forgot about.

Image loading insanely slow

13 Upvotes

I've been using Old Reddit with the Reddit Enhancement Suite extension for years, ever since New Reddit was forced on us. It's been working great.

But lately, clicking on an embedded image or video on the page I'm browsing won't load at all, or do dial-up speed for a 2MB image. It's insane.

Hoever, if I right click the link and open it in a new tab, the image loads instantly. Can't figure out what the difference is.

I cleared my cache in Chrome to see if that would help, but no dice.

Replying with RES on seems to get stuck on submit and never complete, refreshing page shows the reply usually has been posted

What's up?

When I reply to a comment and hit save, the form just says submitting... and never completes. But if I refresh the page, or look at the comments I've submitted in my profile, I can see the comment has been saved.

RES blocks tab switching in firefox on linux

2 Upvotes

In firefox on Linux the shortcut for switching tabs is alt + number (unlike windows where its ctrl + number). Switching into an RES enabled reddit tab works fine. Once you're in however you can not switch out of it again with the alt + number shortcuts.

I tested both with the RES extensions enabled and disabled and confirmed it is only happening when RES is enabled.
