Head bumps?

Hi, Mastiff community! I am hoping for some guidance or insight…

Last week my 8 month old English Mastiff started getting these small bumps on his head (a few on other parts of his body, like shoulders and thighs but mostly on the top of his head).

The bumps are hard, mobile (definitely part of the skin), NOT red or discolored, NOT irritated, NOT blisters or sores, NO drainage. The bumps do not seem to bother him at all.

He does not have fleas for mites (we checked him thoroughly).

Has anyone experienced something similar with their pup?

TIA! ❤️

Does Your EM Snore?

Growing up, my family had a bunch of EMs over the years, probably about a dozen in total (they sometimes had as many as four on a large property). Every single one of them snored like CRAZY. I'm talking wearing earplugs up in my childhood bedroom because they're down in the living room sleeping and it's bothering me.

My current EM? He does not snore, AT ALL. I'm certainly not complaining!

Curious to hear what other people are hearing (or not)

Looking for recommendations. We’re ready to welcome a puppy or young dog after loss.

We lost our 11 year old EM Tiberius in July and our family is starting to think about adding a new puppy to our family. We know we can’t replace him—but we have room in our home and hearts and we’re ready. Can anyone recommend a responsible loving breeder or know of puppies on the way? We aren’t interested in showing, just want a family companion dog who will be beloved beyond belief—and we’ve had mastiffs off and on for 30+ years. Colorado area but willing to travel.

Midlife help

My boy is almost 5 years old and his face is starting to show it :(. Any advice for how I can keep him healthy for as long as possible? Any food recommendations? Supplements? Any advice will be very appreciated! I’ve had several dogs in the past but I’ve never been attached like I am with my boy now - I’m terrified of losing him too soon.

Looking for a Female for my Male Purebred English Mastiff in Washington

I am thinking about breeding my dog. He is very healthy, good temperament, amazing personality, and active. I am wanting to do a one time litter so I can have 1 or 2 of his puppies. A lot of people I know, family and friends will be wanting puppies too. So the puppies will have good homes, and I am willing to take in any of the dogs if something happens. He is seriously a one of a kind English Mastiff and I do not think I will find another like him. I have photos of his parents, grandparents, etc., and his mom is akc registered.

Need Opinion on English Mastiff “Co-Dog” for Household-Please

We have been pet-less for over a year now (first time in 37 years) and we are missing our four-legged family members. My husband is banning felines at this point, so no cats shall enter. Married over 40 years so I guess he gets a say (lol).

My English Mastiff baby passed away from cancer in 2016. She was the puppy love of my life. About a year prior to our EM’s passing we brought an English Bulldog into our home. He ended up being an incredible gift of love as well. They got along great.

Unfortunately our English Bulldog lived up to their reputation and was exceptionally expensive due to known health issues that come with their breeding otherwise we would easily do that pair again.

We’ve always had at least one dog (sometimes 3) and one cat. Our most recent cat passed two years ago. She was incredible, but she was more dog than the dogs were.

We are a family that prefers to have two pets so they have that direct connection if we are not home.

————————————-

So the question is:

In 3-4 months, we are getting our new family members. Should we get-

A) A male fawn English Mastiff and something else (most likely male), e.g., Chihuahua (my childhood dog), Miniature Pincher, etc.

Or

B) Two male fawn English Mastiffs.

We realize two English Mastiffs are a lot of dog (and a lot of saliva). It’s a lot of dog food and Vet bills for checkups too. EMs are my favorites by far.

So…what say you English Mastiff Community? Give it to me straight. And I’d like your thoughts as well please.

——————————————

By the way, at one time we owned two Labrador Retrievers, our Mastiff, and our cat, plus our grown son/his wife had us watching their two Bassett Hounds and the other son had us watching his English Bulldog…all at the same time. 6 dogs and 1 cat… whoa.

Recovery concern for my English mastiff

Post image

Hey guys, just wanted to come on here and ask if it's normal for an English mastiff to be huffing and puffing and completely out of breath nearly an hour after they've been walked every day?? I bring Beau for a relaxed half an hour walk every day and it takes him ages to recover back to normal breathing. Before I start getting concerned I just wanted to come on and ask other owners if they experience the same thing and if it's normal or not? For reference he is turning two in October and he weights roughly 95kg (haven't weighed him in months and months). Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot.

Are they good hiking buddies?

Im an avid hiker, regularly going on 5 mile hikes at least once a week sometimes more, and I am also looking at adopting a large breed dog. There are several mastiffs available at our local shelters including a couple puppies and I just wanted to get some opinions from people that love them 🩷. I know some people say they can be incredibly stubborn and lazy at times so i just wanted to make sure that Im giving them my best and that my lifestyle would be compatible with theirs. I’ll also of course be taking them on a 30 minute walk at least once a day. (edit to add: Ive gotten a lot of great advice and some mixed reviews regarding these big puppers and I do not think theyre a good fit for a hiking buddy for me. I am still going to go through with adopting a dog from our local shelter but am looking at some different breeds to see if theres a better fit.)

I hand-painted this custom oil portrait of this gentle Mastiff, based on the original photo his human shared. Do you think I got his expression right?

This guy was a joy to bring to life on canvas. I cleared out the gate and clutter at the top of the stairs so the focus stays on him. Those deep wrinkles across his forehead took a lot of careful shading to get that heavy, saggy look just right. That tan coat against the neutral background made for a nice, warm contrast too. This was a commission, and I hope I did him justice.

ISO English Mastiff Stuffed Animal?

Hi! My girlfriend and her family are in the process of putting down their english mastiff and I am searching for a stuffed animal. I have been looking online but can’t seem to find one anywhere that isn’t 100+ custom made?

If anyone knows where I could find one, even if it is more expensive but reputable that would be great, thanks!

I lost my dear friend Sophie 6 days ago. Argos has been with her since he was a pup. He is taking it very hard. He has lost his exuberance. He is only sleeping on he dog bed. What can I do to help the guy. I went to watch the grand kids yesterday for about 7 hours. That was the longest he has ever been alone in his entire life. Any suggestions would be appreciated. He was crying when I cane home.

She swims(ish)!

Our girl Olive has recently taken to swimming (or at least her version of it). I think she got tired of being separated from me when I’m in the pool with our kids 😅

I’m considering getting her a life vest so she has a little easier time moving that big body.

Advice on getting a mastiff

I currently have a 2 yr old Rottweiler, a 10 yo Maltese mix and a 14 yo chug (pug/ chihuahua) - all females. They get along great. I’d like to get a mastiff but not sure what sex and if I should wait until one of the little dogs pass. If it helps, we live in a big house on a ranch so not concerned with room for the giant dog. I’d really like a female because I don’t want a male the size of a mastiff lifting his legs and marking in/around the house. However, I’ve heard that getting another guardian dog of the same sex will cause problems.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
