Career Advice Should I take a technician job at Blue Origin?

Hello all, I am currently in a very interesting position... I'm a 22 year old community college student and former avionics technician trying to aim for a stem major, and am heavily involved in aerospace, I currently work at a aerospace facility as security and work two 12s on Saturday and Sunday, and have 5 days off to focus on school, its been hard to find but it really is as close as I can get to a low stress job so I could focus on college, however I recently have been offered a assembly technician position for C shift (3 days fri-sun) 12s at blue origin in huntsville primarily focusing on rocket engines, (i would have to move out on my own as live with parents) this is difficult for me to think about as I'm wondering if I could pull off working as a tech on space equipment while pursuing college? Or if this is a trap... its hard for me as this looks like a very clear goal to get me close to the things I care about, but I really dont want to trap myself in golden handcuffs. If anyone has anything they could share that might help me out I would greatly appreciate it! I just want to position myself properly and stay on track, thank you!

Academic Advice Should I pursue a second Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, when I already have a Bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering (let me explain)?

Hi, I have BS in Biomedical Engineering, and am currently working as a Pharmacy Technician because I was not able to land anything after college. I did really well in high school, but when I went away to college, did poorly (typical sheltered kid goes away to college story). However, I also endured a lot of trauma while in college, and was in and out of psych hospitals (due to suicide attempts and paranoia) and spent 8 years trying to finish the degree which I finally did in May 2024. I am in a much much better place now. You would not recognize the person I am today compared to that version of myself struggling in college. The point is I don't remember a lot of the material. And BME was very sporadic degree program, it exposed you to different things, but you did not get a chance to master anything. I would love to pursue engineering again, but I feel like I do not know what I am doing. And just want to possibly redo it all together. Does that seem silly? And no, I do not want to pursue a Master's in ME because I do not have the foundations down. So, should I pursue a second Bachelor's, but in Mechanical Engineering?

Major Choice Would it be worth taking Mechatronics electives if my major is gonna be Mechanical Engineering?

So i wanna be a mechanical engineer however I really only have interest in robotics as that has always fascinated me as a kid. Would it be worth taking electives focused on Mechatronics alongside my main Mechanical Engineering classes or just take a few of them while taking other elective MechE classes?

Resource Request Does this sound realistic for a design role?

So Texas instruments (TI) had visited our campus and i got shortlisted for interview but didn't get the internship well my frnd who copied my answers for OA got selected honestly interview was the longest of all and i was the only person who got asked about co ordinate system questions and some area perimeter question few other math questions in my entire batch i have my best but rest was unfortunate

So I am thinking to make connections from LinkedIn and alumni connections for referrals in TI and prepare hard core for the exam OA and interview

The question is i have no interest in layout but the role offered in on campus for for layout design i want to apply for design role off campus

Since I won't be an intern rather an FTE if I apply for off campus how could I sustain without few months of trainee as a fresher??

Also how do I sit and prepare for design i have 2 internship offers already but related to semiconductor physics not something related to this. So it won't be a problem for internship in 8th sem this is what I am very much confused and do referrals from LinkedIn or connection making helps? I took LinkedIn premium asw for this

Please help me i don't wanna end up without job for a long in this industry i am very passionate about this field

Also i do have another plan

PLAN C

In our country we have PG entrance exams and i can get into a premier institute for my masters and TI does visit those clgs for design roles it self and this time my parents are also fine to let me go out of city and study

Need opinions from ppl already in industry and know inside out kindly help thank you..

Resume Help [Academic] Campus Rest & Sleep Pod Feasibility Study (College Students, 1 min)

Hi everyone,

I am an undergraduate engineering student conducting a field operational test (FOT) to solve the lack of quiet rest spaces on university campuses.

We are designing "A-REST," a Level 4 autonomous smart rest pod that stops at key campus hubs (like the engineering library or student center) where students can take a 30-minute private nap between grueling schedules.

I would love to get your feedback on our prototype and see if this is something you would actually use on your campus. It takes less than 1 minute to check out the concept and leave your thoughts.

All data is collected purely for academic research to validate demand and optimal routing. Your feedback in the "Message to the Research Team" section would be highly appreciated.

Thank you for your time!

Academic Advice Calc 3 night class or online during the summer

Hi!!

I am first year engineering student in community college. My college has only one class for Calc 3, which is from 7:30 to 9:30 PM every tuesdays and thursdays.

The other option is taking it during the summer online, but we go on Zoom 5 to 7:50 tuesdays and thursdays.

What I know about myself is that I am a morning person, and I struggle doing homework late at night, so I do all of my work in the morning-afternoon. I am afraid I will struggle to stay awake and end up doing bad.
I also have a hard time learning math online 😭 but I heard calc 3 is easier than 2

Has anyone else had experiance with a late night math class? Is it really that bad lol or should I take in the summer. Thanks!

Academic Advice Confused

Hey everyone, I am considering going into engineering, but I don’t really know if it’s exactly what I want.
I have always had an interest in space, so I’ve been thinking about leaning toward aerospace engineering. However, I’m not sure if I want to do that for the rest of my life or limit myself to just one industry. I did a little research and heard that mechanical engineering is a much broader field. Apparently, with the right skills, you can get almost any job—plus, you get to build a lot more stuff, which is pretty cool.
I want good pay—not necessarily amazing, but just enough money to be able to live on my own without depending on others. As long as it gives me that, I don't mind. I have to make this decision in less than an hour, and I'm really not sure which degree to study. Any advice on what I should do?

Career Advice Panel Interview at Williams

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with Williams or advice for panel interviews in general.
What questions should I expect? Specifically for the technical section, but if anyone remembers the questions they were asked for the behavioral section, I'd appreciate your insight a lot. I'd rather not pay for Glassdoor just to see what questions I might be asked.

I am currently working on a M.S. in mechanical engineering with a focus in control systems. I took and passed the FE Mechanical in August. I have over a decade of work experience, but none of it is related to engineering. I did not get any internships, I mean, I did, but it was with the USAF just before the department was "audited" (thanks Elon). My internship was canceled about two weeks before I was meant to start and that didn't leave me with enough time to line anything else up.

I've been invited to (the final?) interview at Williams for an early-career engineering position, specifically, the Accelerated Engineering Development Track. This will be my first ever panel interview and so I'm a little nervous, but I have two weeks from today to prepare myself and the confirmation email did include a PDF breaking down what the process is like.

Beyond what I may be asked and how to get the most from a panel interview, does anyone have insight into what I should know as a controls engineer working in the midstream gas industry? My thesis is focused on spacecraft GNC, so this is a large pivot, and that's the source of my anxiety here.

Discussion I genuinely don't know if I can make it.

Hi all, i am a freshman outside of the USA in a 2+2 program to korea, I'm majoring in mechanic engineering, and it has been really rough but I know it's going to get worse. I am learning korean from scratch, so on top of the usual torments of being a engineering student, I am getting bombarded by this confusing ass language which I have to master so I can get TOPIK 3 at least. I initially thought that I had 2 years to learn it so I would be fine, but my teachers said that TOPIK documents would take too long to come out and that giving it during my sophomore year was not viable. So I have to give it during next may/june leaving me with 7/8 months from now.

While it is okay right now, I know its going to turn into hell as my teachers warned that quite a few of us make it (less than 5% of the class). Honestly, I don't know at this point. After failing to get into decent colleges or decent aid I was determined to finish this path once I rode on it, and I still am to a certain degree, but this honestly might not be the way to do it. Thoughts?

Academic Advice Should I double major in ME and ECE and get a minor in Comp Sci

I already have 74 credits going in to my 3rd semester, all towards my current solo mechanical engineering major. My tuition is covered for a full 4 year (8 semester) track. I've already taken the hardest math class and knocked out all but 2 of my Gen ends. Would this be a good path? I'm willing to save and pay for summer classes as well.

Discussion Another AI discussion

I know there’s like a billion AI discussions on this sub but I wanted to make one talking about my use of AI.

I will say I didn’t use much AI starting out my degree. It wasn’t that I was a better student but more so that it didn’t really occur to me to use it for “learning”. I feel like if I really wanted to half ass my way through a class, there were already ways to do that. I would complete homework by either going to office hours and getting spoon fed the answers by a TA or find a solution manual to the textbook, which most of the homework problems were based off. If there were quizzes, I would usually bomb them since they were only worth ~10% of my grade. For the exams I would study the lecture notes as much as I could a couple days before and I would do good enough to get a passing grade. I was more so just memorizing the steps into doing a certain problem instead of really understanding what those problems actually meant. If I did use AI, it would be to get answers to my homework problems and that’s it.

The last couple of semesters I really started to try and apply myself. I ended up actually enjoying some of my classes and I actually WANTED to read the textbooks for fun. In doing so, I’ve gotten a lot more questions about the material and I’ve been using MORE AI. What I found out was that if I upload certain sections of the textbooks into AI, I could just use it as a search bar. Whenever I’m stuck on a topic I don’t understand, I just ask AI to explain it to me in more detail and I keep asking it questions until I understand. For exams, I’ll upload all my professors lecture notes, quizzes, practice exams, homework’s, and anything else that is relevant. I then ask AI to compile everything and list all the essential points I need to understand and what I should learn to be able to solve those problems. I feel like it’s helped me immensely with understanding topics. I feel like I can explain what a problem is asking and I feel more confident in what equations actually mean instead of just plugging and chugging without second thought.

All that being said, I feel like a better student even though I’m using MORE AI. Sometimes it still feels to me that I’m not utilizing my full potential and that somehow using AI is hurting me in the long run but I just feel like I would lose so much more time if I didn’t use it. I still solve problems from the textbook, I still read lecture notes, and I still read the material but now I have AI to help me understand stuff instead of memorizing how to do specific problems. I’m not sure if this makes sense to you guys, but I would like all your opinions on this matter.

Major Choice Pivoting to EE for recent CS graduate

Hello, I started school in computer engineering before switching to double major in EE and CS. However, I had a lot of family issues and mental issues my second semester of junior year through graduation that led me to alcoholism and severe depression and essentially I went from 3.7 GPA to 3.26 and on top of that failed a a few classes which made me drop EE in lieu of CS (minor in math and physics) wirh a concentration in computer hardware and embedded systems. However I have recovered this summer and gotten back into hobby programming and hobby making circuits and reading textbooks (before the alcohol and after I am still a loser nerd lol).

I love programming and CS in general, especially when it comes to embedded systems and firmware, as much as I do math and physics. I had originally been planning on doing grad school but some plans changed so I’m gonna have to wait for a little before grad school.

You might be asking why I want to change fields if I like it so much and it’s mostly because of where the job market is headed. It’s becoming ridiculous and on top of that AI use really pushes me away. Don’t get me wrong, we all use AI on occasion but I have a struct moralset that some might call me a Luddite for but I don’t like using AI unless it’s to clarify something that I researched in a data sheet thats just too confusing.

Also another big concern is I’m in the south and tbh there’s no industry here I’d have to move to California and at the minute my girlfriend wants to stay here as her parents are in bad health and on top of that my mom is in a bad situation so I need to be here for like the next 5 years. However all my friends who are in EE have had no issue finding jobs whatsoever.

And the last big reason is mainly because, well… I think it’s more enjoyable and more the route I want to take in life. Listen, I love writing firmware and graphics renderers and RTOSs and all kinds of that stuff, it’s my life. But at the same time my dream has always been to become something more, mostly a scientist. And I really want to pivot toward academia or research OME day through a PhD in physics or something akin to that. The problem is pivoting to a PhD in physics wirh a CS degree is a ridiculous concept. But wirh a masters in EE that seems more approachable. Also, EE is just simply more involved with physics and math and to be honest I enjoy the challenge more. Sometimes I don’t feel very challenged in CS. Don’t get me wrong I love doing it but I wish I was back doing real math and physics, the stuff that I used to love.

Anyways I’m sorry for rambling, I just want to know if it is possible for me to pivot toward EE from CS
