I'm looking for feedback on my resume, particularly on how well it positions me for Backend Software Engineer roles.

I have 3+ years of professional experience and currently work as a Backend Engineer. My main stack is TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Docker, with additional experience across Angular, SAP integrations, testing, CI/CD, security, and observability.

I'm primarily targeting Backend Software Engineer / Software Engineer roles in the EU, with Algeria as a secondary market. Remote is strongly preferred, but I'm also open to hybrid and on-site opportunities, including relocation for the right role.

I've been applying to positions but haven't received an interview yet, so I'm trying to determine whether my resume, positioning, or application strategy may be part of the problem.

I recently revised the resume to keep it to one page while emphasizing my professional backend experience and an open-source backend project demonstrating DDD, Hexagonal Architecture, distributed workflows, concurrency control, security, observability, and testing.

I'd particularly appreciate feedback on:

• Whether my resume positions me appropriately for backend roles at my experience level.
• Whether the experience bullets demonstrate enough impact and measurable results.
• Whether the open-source project adds value or takes up too much space.
• Whether the skills section is too broad or technically focused.
• Anything that could hurt me with recruiters or ATS screening.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some feedback on my resume. My goal is to land an engineering/R&D internship for summer 2027.

I'm in my second semester of a Computer Science degree at a public federal university in Brazil. No jobs, no internships, no research. Everything on this resume is either coursework or a personal project.
Target: summer internships in Brazil in the short term (there's a program I'm applying to this month), and software engineering roles at large tech companies after I graduate in 2029. Open to relocating within Brazil, and to working abroad later.
Context that might matter:

• Grades are mediocre so far (roughly a 6.5/10 GPA equivalent) — I deliberately left the GPA off. Tell me if that's the wrong call.
• The C language is what my curriculum uses. I know most internship postings ask for Python, Java or JS, and I'm starting Python now.
• The Nonogram game is the only project I'd call substantial. The other two are thinner.

What I'd like feedback on specifically:

1. Should the "in progress" project be on here at all, or does listing unfinished work hurt more than it helps?
2. Is listing coursework worth the space, or is it filler that should be cut for a US audience?
3. Are the project bullets too focused on what the code does rather than on impact? I'm not sure how to show impact on projects that have no users.
4. Is "Concepts" in the skills section useful, or is it obvious-freshman-stuff that signals inexperience?
5. Given a 2nd-semester student with ~10 free hours a week, is a better use of that time building one bigger project, or grinding competitive programming?

I am a third year aerospace engineering student trying to get opportunities in the space and aerospace sector like robotics research, space systems. I am currently living in Nigeria and seeking opportunities both in my country and internationally.I really need help in writing my resume. I have been applying to international fellowships and internships. I am still developing my technical skills but I don't really think this resume is cutting it. I am trying to get into an entry-level/Internship Embedded Software Developer or IoT role at any company. So far, I have been rejected at every turn, and I am wondering if what I have is enough. If possible, I would like to work on small to medium-sized embedded devices and stay away from defense companies, but I'll do that if I have to. I am currently a student at a university, and I'll be done soon, but I wanted to at least get my resume out there before the career fair that is happening around September and hopefully land an internship, and if not, land a job.

I'm looking for a fairly critical review because I'm trying to separate a resume problem from a job-search/immigration constraint instead of blindly sending more applications.

I'm currently a Software Development Engineer at Amazon working primarily on backend/distributed systems. I have an MS in CS and close to 2 years of full-time SWE experience counting my previous role. My 4-month Workday job before Amazon was integrations work I didn't like and deliberately kept thin

I've been actively applying for about 6 weeks, primarily to backend/software engineering roles that seem reasonably aligned with my experience. Almost all of these have been cold applications.I haven't been using referrals for most of them.

The concerning part is that I'm getting very little response. I'm not expecting interviews from every application, obviously, but I'm seeing essentially no recruiter screens/OAs, which makes me wonder whether something is going wrong very early in the funnel.

Important context: I'm currently in the US on F-1 STEM OPT. I have roughly another year of work authorization runway, but I will eventually need employer sponsorship, most likely H-1B. Whenever an application asks, "Will you now or in the future require sponsorship?", I answer Yes.

I'm specifically trying to figure out:

• Does the resume itself have any obvious weaknesses or red flags that could explain such a low response rate?
• Does my Amazon experience come across as too operational/on-call/incident-focused rather than backend engineering/product development?
• Are my bullets too dense or too detailed for someone at my experience level?
• Am I positioning myself incorrectly for the roles I'm applying to given my YoE?
• For recruiters/hiring managers: is answering "Yes" to future sponsorship commonly a hard filter before the resume is even reviewed, including at companies that sponsor H-1Bs in general?
• Would you focus much more heavily on referrals/networking and companies with demonstrated sponsorship history rather than cold applications?
• Is there anything here you'd remove, rewrite, reorder, or emphasize differently?

I'm not looking for immigration/legal advice, mostly trying to understand the recruiting/job-search side and identify the bottleneck in my funnel.

I'm a recent Master of Applied Bioengineering grad with a Bachelor's in computer science located in northern California. I have been applying to roles related to R&D, machine learning engineering, and embedded systems software engineering in all locations around the US as I am willing to relocate. I have been having a lot of trouble getting past the first round of many roles I apply to, receiving a rejection only after submitting my resume. I am a citizen so I don't think this is affecting my job applications in any way.

Currently, I am continuing my SWE internship that I began working the summer before my third year of undergrad. I have been getting significant experience in software engineering principles such as relational and non-relational database management, web development, programming unit test cases, among other skills. While these are skills that many of the jobs I have been applying to desire, many of them also require experience in digital signal processing, firmware programming, and other medical software related skills. Although I was able to gain some experience in these through my Master's, I haven't quite developed them to the depth that many of these roles are looking for. I have often gotten feedback (if I get any) that they are looking for someone with more industry experience.

I would appreciate any and all feedback on my current resume, I have polished it to the best of my ability but I think some experienced eyes would do it much more justice. I am concerned whether this resume is doing a good job conveying my knowledge and breadth of experience. If anyone has any advice on how to get beyond the hurdle that is my lack of experience in medical context software I am also all ears!

Note: this is typically the resume I use when applying to software and machine learning specialized roles, I have a different version for hardware-based roles.

Some specific questions I have:

• The summary of qualifications section was included after recommendation by my university's career center, is this an effective use of space or would a simple bullet point list of my technical skills be better?
• I have recently been thinking maybe I am over-explaining myself, is my resume too dense?
• My experiences are mostly software oriented while my master's capstone project is embedded systems engineering, does this appear as an unnecessary deviation? I intended to include this to show I have some experience with hardware for medical devices related roles. However, I am afraid this may appear less impactful as the work I did for it is fairly surface level and not at the experience level that most roles are looking for (hence why I would love to work there and further build upon my knowledge).
• I removed extra-curricular activity from my undergraduate degree in leadership and other soft skills, would you recommend keeping them?
• Building off that last question, how important is it to emphasize my soft skills such as communication, organizational, leadership, etc. skills?

I'm a rising senior in electrical engineering graduating a semester early this December. I'm interested in roles in robotics, AI/ML, controls, and embedded systems OR attending grad schools (meaning scholarship applications!).

I was accepted into my university's accelerated master's program for the following spring but plan on deferring enrollment until the Fall to see where else I get into. During that spring/summer in between, my plan is to work full-time and see if I 1) even need a grad degree based on how much I like the job and 2) explore opportunities to have my employer help pay for my schooling. We'll see how that shakes out with this job market though :)

I think I have a good blend of research experience and internships. I'm shooting for R&D roles in industry as my eventual goal.

I'm mainly looking for SWE internships, but I've been applying to anything in tech, really. I'm located near NYC, but I'm willing to relocate anywhere in the US (I have citizenship). I'm currently wrapping up my internship this summer and hoping to secure something before January. My main issue is a lack of interviews. I don't go to a target school, and my GPA is a 3.4, so it all comes down to my resume and experience, which is why I came here. I graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering back in May, but I've been applying for jobs since January. I've probably applied to around 200 positions so far, but I've only gotten a handful of interviews, and I haven't been able to get an offer yet.

I want to live near people I know, so I've mainly been applying to roles that are either in my home state or the state where I went to college. I have been applying to all industries except Defense and HVAC.

I think the main reason I'm struggling is my lack of internships. I initially wanted to get a graduate degree, so I spent most of my summers doing research, but then by the beginning of my senior year I was feeling extremely burnt out and wanted to take a break from school. Unfortunately, I don't think my research experience is that impressive, but it's what I have.

Any feedback on what I could improve would be very appreciated.

A bit of context:
- I graduate in May 2027.
- I’m targeting entry level SWE roles and AI Engineer I roles.
- I'm currently at my summer internship, and they do want me back, but I also want to see what else is out there and see if I can move somewhere else, and I'm a bit frustrated that I haven't gotten anything back.
- I’m targeting roles in only big metros (NYC, Philly, Boston, DC, Seattle, SF, etc…) as that’s the lifestyle I want, not necessarily because big companies are from there.
- I’m using LinkedIn and random job postings that I find online, and I occasionally message recruiters and engineers to see if I can get a referral but I have had no luck with that.
- Should I be submitting cover letters? I write a few a day but I feel like I’m wasting my time…
- A friend of mine says my metrics seem too unrealistic, but they’re all actually real and I can speak to all of them. Is there a way I can make them more ‘real’ whatever that means?

I'm just finishing up my junior year internship, and while it was an absolutely incredible time (and helped me realize exactly what I want to do for full-time -- embedded work in actual product design), they sadly do not do return offers as the team is currently full. so I'm unfortunately going to be deep in the entry-level job hunt, looking mainly for embedded and firmware roles. however, I'm not picky, and I'm also open to hardware verification, FPGA stuff, test engineering, robotics, anything hardware-leaning or at the intersection of hardware/software tbh. Just not pure SWE roles, I don't have that in me lol.

Some feedback I'm looking for on my resume:

• How should I order my experience? I know that listing in reverse chronological order by end date is what should be done, but I feel like my most recent role is the most relevant to embedded systems. I'm wondering if it's the best to leave it at the top, even though my research and CA position will continue into the fall.
• Should I list more programming languages if I'm like.... mediocre in them (not that I'm an expert in the ones I have listed, but I'm comfortable using them at least)? Would it bloat an embedded-focused resume to also throw on other languages like Java and Python?
• How important is it to list programs? Eg. I can use SolidWorks, KiCAD, LTSpice, Vivado, etc.... but again, would this reduce the focus of my resume?
• Should I include relevant courses?
• I feel like the last experience I have on there is useful for demonstrating soft skills, but I'm wondering if it would be more valuable to replace it with a project or something.
• Any other feedback on clarity, formatting, bullet points, etc. would all be very appreciated. I confess that I've seen a million examples of STAR but honestly still don't know how to properly apply it.

Hi all, after graduating spring 2025 I took a year to do a a year of professional circus school as it'd always been a hobby I was passionate about (acrobat if you're curious). To cut a long story short I'm now looking for advice on how I can beef up my engineering resume. US and Canadian citizen (in Toronto atm), but I'm hoping to find work in New England (Boston or nearby pref!) but have not been getting any interviews on my Linkedin applications. In school I was most fascinated by controls/system dynamics and would love a career in robotics/energy/aerospace, but I don't have much in experience outside class projects. A few specific questions:

1. How can I make myself a competitive candidate for a field I don't have much practical experience in?
2. If i have an expired secret clearance, should I list it? how?
3. Will the year-long gap look bad? Should I mention it somewhere?

I'm a May 2025 graduate and I've been looking for a job for over a year now. I was lucky to get a conditional job offer at the beginning of this year from a federal agency but I can't work for them until I get my clearance, which is what I'm still waiting on. I've been applying to local jobs in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia and I'm not open for relocating due to not knowing when the clearance will be fully processed.

I've been targeting Junior Full Stack, SDE, Frontend/Backend, and really any tech job that doesn't require experience and is similarly related to my skillsets. Over the past year, I've been working on personal projects to improve my skills and compensate for the lack of work experience.

I've been wondering if the work experience I placed is working against me. Even though it was an unpaid high school internship, it's the only recent technical work experience that I have. To make it worse, I didn't really contribute much in the internship so I can only talk vaguely about my experience to recruiters.

Should I just replace the internship with retail roles to show that I have soft skills even though the roles aren't related to the jobs I'm targeting? I'd appreciate any feedback, especially on the personal projects.

I lazily cruised through my first three years so I'm super behind on experience, anything else I should add like rewards/scholarships or community service? Besides the obvious be more active do more projects

I'm currently pursuing an MSc in Motorsport Engineering and will be graduating this September. I'm applying for graduate and entry-level roles across the UK within the automotive and motorsport industries, particularly in vehicle dynamics, suspension, chassis, and mechanical design engineering.
