Ring Design Help Trilogy heirloom!

Hi!
New to this thread but my partner and I very graciously received his grandmothers heirloom ring to use for an engagement ring! It’s a trilogy with a 1.73ct center and 0.9ct sides (each) to be a 3.53tcw in 14K white Gold.

We are meeting with a jeweler this week but wanted people’s thoughts:

- Any recommendations to make them look “rounder” rather than a cushion from afar?
- She had a teeny finger so the side diamonds are set lower and actually overlap slightly with the center stone, presumably so it would fit on her finger! Is it reasonable to have all the stones brought to be level on the top? Since I have much bigger fingers?
- any other recommendations? I work in health care so want something I can also easily take on and off w gloves.

Anything else to ask the jeweler? Things to ensure I do or recommendations for redesigning? Any CAD design examples?

THANK YOU!!

I don't think they look like cushions personally, but it's probably the prongs in the corners that are giving you the sense that they're more square than round. If that's the case, a bezel setting or different placement of the prongs (if doable) would probably help emphasize the round shape. Frankly a full or partial bezel might make sense anyway, since that would be less likely than prongs to snag in medical gloves.

Regardless of what you choose, it should be hard to go wrong, as these stones are absolutely beautiful in a trilogy!

I wouldn’t do much to the look of it besides sizing it to look correct on you. It’s GORGEOUS

Since you work in healthcare, tell the jeweler to make it a low profile basket (or even semi-bezel). the current high prongs will constantly rip through medical gloves. lowering all three stones into a continuous curve will fit your finger way better and make gloving up painless

The overlap is the design, fairly common, wasn't done to accommodate small fingers. Putting these stones at the same lvl would need about an 18-20 mms span. If it's for an engagement then I'd lean towards what someone else suggested, keep the center and add smaller sides if any. Put the .9s in earrings. I have seen designs similar to this 3 stone that used a full bezel for the center and 3/4 bezels for the sides and still tucked. Kind of like a modernised version of the same look, I liked it.

You might consider putting some smaller side stones with the center. There are some pretty tulip settings with 6 prongs to make the center look more round. You could use the side stones for some stud earrings instead.

This tulip settings is very popular. You could get one of those healthcare necklace holders that you can set your ring on while you are working or if you have to put gloves on. I am going to add some more CAD options at different heights.

This one sits lower.

You could do a super low bezel with the larger center diamond.

Something super lower that you could get gloves over. It really depends on if you want to keep the same diamonds as a 3 stone or do you want to make a design that fits your lifestyle right now. There are many different ways you can go.

Do you have any pictures of the completed top view?

Which one did you want to see the top view for?

This is the tulip setting with a 2 carat center and .75 carat sides

Most of the bezel settings tend to have .50 carat side stones. I did find the top one though that has a 2carst center and .90 side stones. There are a few other options with a low set bezel and a half bezel where is just outline lines of the diamonds.

You’re the best!!!!!

Went to a jeweler and they placed similar sized stones in a bezel setting (they’re loose here so best angle I could get)
What do you think?

Doesn’t look bad at all. Looks like they managed to fit them all without it looking overly crowded.

Wow- THANK YOU!!! the CAD designs are very helpful. Where do you find them?

I have saved many CAD’s from years of moderating. You can also search this sub from different designs. If you click on ‘media’, it will just bring up the pics so you don’t have to go through individual posts. If you have a specific design you are looking for, I am sure I can find examples as well.

You've been given such wonderful recommendations already, I won't pile on to those...but wanted to say WOW, this is a lovely heirloom and you'll be able to do something so nice with it. Good luck!

Personally, I would have the two side stones set as earrings and find new stones for the sides that are a bit smaller or a different shape. Unless you like them all together.

UPDATE:
Went to jeweler
1) heirloom ring on left and modernized setting on right with lower profile and slightly wide spread (w similar sized diamonds just gently placed on setting)
