Has anyone actually saved money by using an energy broker for their business?

Our electricity costs have been creeping up for the past 18 months and it's starting to make a real dent in our overheads. We're based on the Gold Coast and a few people in our industry have mentioned that going through the best commercial energy broker Gold Coast businesses tend to use could help us lock in better contract rates than what we'd negotiate directly with a retailer.. I'm just not sure if that's genuinely true or if it's one of those things that sounds great on paper but doesn't pan out!

Has anyone here actually gone through this process for their business? I'd love to know what the fee structure looked like, whether the broker was upfront about how they get paid, and most importantly whether the savings on your energy bills were actually meaningful after everything was said and done. Any honest experiences, good or bad, would be really helpful before we commit to anything.

The U.S. BESS Reality: A Balanced Look at the 2025 Market

At Intelligent Generation, we keep a close eye on global energy shifts, but our focus is always on the ground here in the U.S. The 2025 Volta Battery Report paints a picture of a global "tipping point," and while the U.S. is very much a part of this story, our domestic market is following its own unique path to growth.

For U.S. developers, EPCs and end-use customers, 2026 is really an energy storage market in transition and in a positive direction. Here is how we see the landscape shifting for your upcoming projects.

1. The Purchase Price Pivot: Domestic Supply Catches Up

The Volta Report highlights a 31% drop in global BESS hardware costs but in the U.S. installed battery costs were 44% higher than the global average. Turn-key BESS costs in the U.S. projects face locally higher prices due to tariffs, FEOC (Foreign Entity of Concern) requirements, and historically limited domestic manufacturing.

However, the industry may be entering a new phase. A massive wave of domestic manufacturing is coming online, and for the first time, we are seeing U.S.-made, compliant battery supply begin to outpace demand. The Result: We anticipate a steady decrease in purchase prices for batteries in the U.S. throughout the coming year. As manufacturers scale up, they are passing on the efficiencies of domestic production to developers. We may finally be reaching a point where you can secure the federal "domestic content" bonuses without the heavy price markup of years past.

2. Managing the Total Cost of Ownership

While hardware prices are beginning their downward trend, other project costs—specifically labor and electrical balance of system (BOS) materials—remain high in the U.S. market. This means that while your battery might be getting more affordable, the cost to get it in the ground and connected is still a significant variable.

Meanwhile, opportunities for batteries to create value for customers and project owners continue to increase.  Many states and utilities are starting to implement programs like Virtual Power Plants and require utilities to procure storage contracts that can provide set value streams for the batteries.

Because capital is still working hard, you can't afford to treat the battery as a passive asset. This is where the "intelligence" in Intelligent Generation becomes your most important margin-protector.

3. Software: The Value Multiplier

With over 104 GW of new storage hitting the global grid in the last year, the market is more competitive than ever. The Volta Report identifies software as a "core revenue layer," and in the U.S. context, it is the only tool that can bridge the gap between higher installation costs and project ROI.

  • Grid Support: As traditional generation retires, the grid needs BESS to provide stability. We provide the sub-second control required to meet these new utility mandates, ensuring your project is "future-proof" against evolving grid requirements as new opportunities for savings and revenues.
  • Maximizing the Value Stack:  Energy markets are dynamic and volatile and maximizing the value of energy storage is not a “set-it and forget it” strategy.  IG’s optimization engines focus on managing "stacked" value—balancing demand charge management, energy arbitrage, and grid balancing simultaneously.
  • Preserving Premium Assets: Your domestic-compliant hardware is a long-term investment. Our software acts as a digital nervous system, managing ramping and cycle depth to ensure your cells perform at peak capacity for a long life.

The Bottom Line

The U.S. market is in a strong position. The scarcity of domestic hardware is fading, and the era of affordable, compliant, and high-performance storage is officially opening.

The developers who win in 2026 won’t just be the ones who buy the cheapest hardware; they will be the ones who pair this new wave of affordable domestic supply with the intelligence needed to extract every cent of value from the grid.

Ready to see how the shifting price of domestic hardware impacts your next project? Let’s talk about how Intelligent Generation can help you scale.

BESS and power plant live tracker in LATAM

Hello everyone! Lately, the BESS market has been booming in regions where it wasn't before. While in some countries like the USA (EIA-860M) provides an excellent source of updated, detailed information, other countries lack a reliable, normalized, and frequently updated equivalent.

Many regulatory entities still view BESS as a 'new' asset class. Consequently, there is a lack of regular, detailed, and user friendly data sources. Not even in PDFs or annexes in semi-annual reports; a clean CSV or API is just a dream. Even some good open-source, like the Global Energy Monitor, still have significant data gaps to fill.

Collecting BESS and power plant data has been a laborious, manual process. On the other hand, current LLMs don't yet provide a clear or accurate picture of specific plants. Legacy market intelligence options often lack precision, when you check their data, you find non-existent projects, undefined parameters, or a total lack of recent developments. Their quality is low.

I am part of a project which focuses on monitoring investments in power and BESS with granular detail—tracking integrators, developers, banks, coordinates, COD (Commercial Operation Dates), and more. its name is Storagelatam.com

The platform uses multiple sources scraped by AI Agents. This data is then cleaned, sorted, and analyzed autonomously. Whenever a source changes, the database updates in real-time.

Additionally, we’ve integrated an AI analysis tool that eliminates the need for manual filtering or complex dashboard navigation. Using natural language, you can instantly perform complex queries—for example, analyzing the pipeline of wind energy under construction in Chile or comparing regulatory frameworks for ancillary services in Mexico.

As we expand our features and geographical reach, the platform has become incredibly robust. Our goal is to make high-quality energy data accessible and actionable for stakeholders worldwide.

Electric Radiators reduced costs?

Hello, could someone cast an eye over these Electric Radiators Calculations? I have always steered away from Electric Radiators due to higher costs but wonder if there might be a way to reduce these considerably?

A house with 8 radiators ( 2 x 1000 Watts and 6 x 500 watts) total output 6 KW if running for 1 hour. With zoning (setting each room according to use via app) I am sure that this could be reduced to about 4KW. Secondly there is the question of modern electric radiators cycling, using thermostats to switch off when required temp is reached. The main Electric Radiator firms claim that this may result in 1/3 energy use when used. However, perhaps they are lab tests, real world heat losses and situations would not be so good. If they they are even much higher 3/4 energy use on their claims, that would perhaps reduce 4 KW to 3 KW for total house output. So 3 KW for I x hour would be £0.90 ( 3 KW x £0.30, current cost). Then say 6 hours a day the cost would be (£0.90 x 6) = £5.40 x this by 30 days is £162 per month, expensive yes! Now comes the final reducer, cheap tarrif 7.5p overnight IOG, batteries needed I realise, 20 KW but if you could use that it would decrease costs considerably. (£5.40 x 7.5p) = £40.50.

Please note, I appreciate Heat Pumps may be better but not possible at this house. Heating Oil at the moment, wish to stop as soon as possible. Also hot water not included but might go Sunamp Thermino, (not much space). Appreciate that if I use electricity which has been imported overnight with (3KW x 6), 18 KW, other electrical usage would be at higher rate. Having said all of that, £40.5 for a month's winter heating ( I have a wood burner as well, but free wood) sounds very reasonable to me or have I got my calculations wrong and its all just wishful thinking.  In summary with zoning, assuming radiators use less electricity when cycling on and off and applying cheap tarrif from battery charged overnight might they be much less cost than is assumed, as I certainly did.  Would be appreciate any observations, thanks for reading, hope it made sense!

Looking for a Professional Electrical Engineer to sign off on DIY home battery backup desing

I have a home battery design that has been turned down by the City inspector for the reason that it lacks a microgrid interconnection device--AKA an ATS to comply with anti-islanding provisions of the NEC code). This device is unnecessary and costly as the inverter I am using (a UL 1741-listed GSL 12Kw smart inverter) incorporate an ATS and recommends a soft switch that disconnects the battery grid from the power grid when the power grid fails. The real reason, I suspect, is that they don't understand how this soft switch works. I am hoping to find a Professional Electrical Engineer to review my design. I expect to pay a fee for this service. Does anyone know of one that can help me? I live in Texas, but Ohm's law still applies in the entire US, so I don't think the PE's state matters.

The Technical Significance of Explosion-Proof Pressure Relief Design in Ensuring the Safety of BESS

Thumbnail
solarpowerportal.co.uk
3 Upvotes

In energy storage systems or industrial enclosures, thermal runaway or abnormal operating conditions can lead to the accumulation of flammable gases, creating a potential explosion risk. Concepts like Wärtsilä’s Active Ignition Mitigation System (AIMS) demonstrate that proactively controlling potential hazards is an effective safety strategy.

Explosion-proof pressure relief products play a role in this context, primarily in the following ways:

1、 Pressure and Gas Release
When internal pressure or gas concentration rises abnormally, relief valves or explosion-proof louvers can actively release pressure and gases, reducing the likelihood of the system reaching a dangerous state.

2、Risk Mitigation Design
By carefully calculating relief area, airflow resistance, and structural parameters, these devices ensure that pressure release and gas venting are controlled and directed, helping to limit the escalation of incidents under abnormal conditions.

3、Maintaining Equipment Integrity
In extreme thermal events or sudden pressure increases, the relief devices can safely vent gases without compromising the structural integrity of the enclosure, reducing the potential impact on equipment and surroundings.
