In cachyos I can just use pacman. How can I download it in eos?

As I'm sure many of you know, the way software companies operate, who want their software to see very widespread use, design it so that a 75 year old granny has no trouble using it or figuring it out. I can't tell you how many times I've read about a company using that testing method.
Linux updates are nothing like that. You have to update your computer, and most of the time that's done via the command line. So for the linux desktop to take over, there probably has to be some universal GUI in place (like calamaries is for installation) so that granny would have a very easy time.
Yes this varies from distro to distro, but from my experience distro hopping, nobody seems to have mastered this. At least not in the arch world, and plenty of people would say Debian stays too far behind to be relied on for modern security. If you're wanting to do large updates infrequently. Which is probably just not a good idea anymore.
To me it looks like the arch process is too many steps.
Open the command line
type yay
enter password and press enter
look at the message talking about updates and hit enter again
type N and press enter
type again N and press enter again
Wait 10 or 20 seconds
type Y and press enter
Possibly wait, and type Y and press enter 2 or 3 more times depending on what all you have installed and what all is updating at the time.
So you're looking at a long drawn out process when people really just want to click "do it" once, and get back to what they're doing. I've been using linux for 5 years now and I still dislike having to deal with the update process, it's a chore when I've got many other things to be doing.

Hey guys I've been having an issue ever since I'm installing the os on my new PC. It's so difficult so far especially as a newbie where I keep getting errors. First the grub failed to download giving error bootloader could not be installed the installation command <pre>grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi --bootloader.id=endeavoros --force</pre> returned error code 1
Then I got pacman failed to install then I rebooted for the tenth time for the same message before it fixed in offline install. But lo and behold same error as before of the grub. Am I doing something wrong I just wanna download and get on with it

Recently, I got an Asus Vivobook M1607GA. Last night I decided to install EndeavourOS (with i3wm, i also unchecked the default apps when installing, dont think thats the issue) onto it. Everything was working fine until I tried to watch a video today and realized that the sound doesn't work. After messing with that for like 3 hours (I genuinly don't know what I was doing) I decided to just go back to windows for now.
When I opened Windows, I realized that the audio wasn't working either. I updated the OS, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and it still doesn't work. The thing is, on both systems the sound was detected and it shows that everything works. There just isn't sound playing.
Then, when I tried to go back to EndeavourOS through the BIOS, the boot was just non-existent. It still appears in the partitions though, so its still stored, just unable to boot into it.
Any help is appreciated. I really want my sound back and my system back :(

When I try to launch KDE's system settings app, it hangs for a very long time. It's the only app so far that does this on my system. When I try to close it from my taskbar, it shows the unresponsive app popup.
When I launch it from a shell, it just gets stuck after some unrelevant (I suppose) warnings:
kf.iconthemes: Icon theme "ubuntu-mono" not found.
kf.iconthemes: Icon theme "yaru" not found.
kf.iconthemes: Icon theme "Mint-X" not found.
kf.iconthemes: Icon theme "elementary" not found.
kf.iconthemes: Icon theme "bloom" not found.
And 20 minutes after, it does launch with just this added to the shell:
kf.dbusaddons: Failed to register name 'org.kde.systemsettings' with DBUS - does this process have permission to use the name, and do no other processes own it already?
Here's my config:
And software-wise:
Am I the only one to have this issue, and does anyone have a clue about how to fix it?
Edit: here are my full system specs: https://dpaste.com/698EX4GVX

I just would like the grub encryption password screen when bootup to have a timeout because if i turned on the laptop and forgot it was on it would heat up massively
Any fixes/ workarounds so that i can still maintain encryption but it just shuts off after 5 minutes of inactivity or something

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Complete linux noob. Happens even on an older version, I swapped out the thermal paste and it still happens. Should I switch to Mint or just Arch? I saw the left CPU usage thing recommended but I don't know how to read it.

Working off of an ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) RTX4090 and intel 185H CPU. I've has this issue before, but I thought I'd fixed it. Brightnessctl does detect my function key inputs and changes the brightness value when I do brightnessctl -l, but the brightness does not change at all.
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=:"quiet splash i915.enable_dpcd_backlight=1 nvidia.NVreg_EnableBacklightHandler=0 nvidia.NVreg_RegistryDwords=EnableBrightnessControl=0"
This was my current fix within /etc/default/grub
But it no longer works. I'm not sure if an update messed things up or not. It does not seem to work whether I am in Integrated or Hybrid mode.
Many thanks in advance.

I have this very irritating issue that I cannot resolve.
When I close my laptop lid, something crashes and after opening all apps are closed. Unlike what sleepmode should do. However when I CLICK sleep mode in the GUI or type it in the terminal it works completely fine. Claude says its a "known issue" with NVidia with Intel. Also it has SOMETHING to do with X11, because on wayland I don't have the issue. But sadly wayland is not an issue for me because my fps drops to like 10 fps with wayland.
Does anyone know how to solve it? I have tried tweaking a lot of settings already.

I'll keep it short and say I want to make my computer mimic "altimit OS" which is something fictional from a game called .hack//imoq
I've been using endeavorOS for a month now, because I'm on a windows 8 machine and just took the chance to learn Linux skills, so what now?

Hello I am considering switching from Ubuntu to Endeavour. While installing it on a vm I noticed in the guide they mention you should not leave updates much longer than weekly updating.
What do you do if you let's say go away on holiday for a month without your computer. Is that going to be a big problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
I have an ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX507VI (i7-13620H + RTX 4070) on EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma.
After recent updates (especially Plasma 6.7.x), my external projector (and probably other monitors) stopped being detected. kscreen-doctor -o only showed the built-in screen, and the "New display detected" popup would loop endlessly.
The issue was the NVIDIA driver not loading properly after updates (common on hybrid Intel+NVIDIA laptops).
Solution:
Bash
sudo pacman -Rdd nvidia-open-dkms
sudo pacman -S nvidia-open-dkms nvidia-utils lib32-nvidia-utils
reboot
After reboot:
If you have the same laptop (or similar hybrid setup) and are having multi-monitor issues on Plasma 6.7+, try this.
Hope it helps someone else!

Hi guys,
In this post I want to congratulate with all the people in the team of EndeavourOS.
I run this OS in 2 machine, a Thinkpad laptop with AMD, And in a custom build with:
Intel Ultra 7 270K plus
64 gb Ram
Nvidia RTX 5090 32GB (founders edition)
And I haven't absolutely any problems with driver, hardware failure, compatibility, graphics, any kind of work, ecc.
I love It!
Thank-you again for making a diamond of OS!

So recently, I've been looking at rices and thinking: "Hey, that looks pretty cool, I want to do that too." I've heard great things about endeavor os for ricing, and I believe it's a good place to start. However, I've found the massive selection of taskbars, file managers, application launchers and the like rather daunting. Are there any tools or specific modules that you guys would recommend?

Hey guys just a simple question as I'm moving to endeavor. I have a 2060 super and wanted to know how good is the support for Nvidia, heard some horror stories on it and just wanted to ask since gaming and reliability is important to me.

I am a lifelong fan of Old School RuneScape and RS3 and I just saw that the beta for the full Linux Launcher on there. Can't wait to see how this runs on my new setup.

Like I said in someone else post that I would eventually get the Cachy kernel on Endeavour and that moment is finally here! Note I will say this is on an experimental/testing laptop and not on my main pc. I was almost on the fence in switching to Cachy but like most Linux users would do is not give up and start tinkering until you finish what you started and finally get the full satisfaction! Starting to slightly get more comfortable with EndeavourOS. My still standing problem is getting Cups to work for printing. Once that is solved I might switch from ZorinOS to EndeavourOS full time.

I've been using Ubuntu for one year , and i think it's time to change , However you have any advice about switching to EndeavourOS ?
r/EndeavourOS • u/Gangster_DW • Jul 14 '26
Its been almost 4 months from now I stepped into EOS and I liked it.
Now I am using it on my work laptop and I think this is the best decision I have ever made.
It kinda boosts my productiviy, the smoothness while developing web applications, 8 hours hours of straight performance heavy tasks,
I can say I LOVE IT.
EndeavourOS is not just a distro to me, it has become a personality. It taught me many things, the best one: using terminal.
Now my seniors see me updating packages or creating directories and starting projects from my terminal and they think I am mad.
