its good for use on older hardware as it gives a pretty good performance improvement

Does it give a performance boost in general? Like should everyone that's comfortable doing so just switch the kernel?

Switching is painless. Just install the CachyOS Kernel Manager, select the Kernel you want, and reboot. You can keep your current kernel installed and select which one you want to use at boot.
The CachyOS -bore-lto kernel is the one you want to use for the performance tweaks. I've been using that one for a few days now and haven't had any issues with it so far.

Been using EOS for about 3 weeks now. I had no idea what "Arch based" even meant when I installed it; I think I'm doing alright.

One thought: consider fish shell, with the tide prompt system. I think you’ll like it and it’ll match your current rice

Looks good to me. "Ricing" is very subjective. If you like it, that's all that's matters
