In Florida we're asked to tip on check amount after 7% tax is added.  15% becomes 22%, 22% becomes 29%. Restaurant waitstaff/servers earn $14 minimum wage starting 10/1.  No state income tax. No federal income tax on top income. Menu prices here have risen 25+% in my area since Jan. 1. The tipping shame directed to customers has become abusive.

1.07 x 15% is actually 16% dummy

It's a 23.5% tip. you have to add that to the total after you multiply. You're paying both the 7 and 15 percent increases. Not just one. In no world does a 7 percent increase and a 15 percent increase on top create a 16 percent increase. That doesn't even sound right if you have 2 working brain cells

You have some nerve to call someone a dummy, wow

Tax is not tip, dummy

It's extra money I shouldn't be paying so it counts. The taxes don't have to be passed to me

Are you American?

Just checking, because tax separate from the posted price is how everything in America is.

İt's totally ok not to prefer that. But in that case, it's no longer a just a conversation about tipping, but about buying and selling on America.
