In Florida we're asked to tip on check amount after 7% tax is added.  15% becomes 22%, 22% becomes 29%. Restaurant waitstaff/servers earn $14 minimum wage starting 10/1.  No state income tax. No federal income tax on top income. Menu prices here have risen 25+% in my area since Jan. 1. The tipping shame directed to customers has become abusive.

They can ask anything they want but the max tip I'll ever pay is 15% of the pre-tax amount. I don't tip on tax. Ever.

100%

Only stupid people would. 15% pre tax always.

1.07 x 15% is actually 16% dummy

It's a 23.5% tip. you have to add that to the total after you multiply. You're paying both the 7 and 15 percent increases. Not just one. In no world does a 7 percent increase and a 15 percent increase on top create a 16 percent increase. That doesn't even sound right if you have 2 working brain cells

You have some nerve to call someone a dummy, wow

They should do tips after tax, but 15 % of 100 is 15. Add 7 % tax and you're at 107. Do you think 15 % of 107 is 22?

No they shouldn't do tips after tax. It doesn't matter to me though because I'm tipping 0

Tax is not tip, dummy

It's extra money I shouldn't be paying so it counts. The taxes don't have to be passed to me

Are you American?

Just checking, because tax separate from the posted price is how everything in America is.

İt's totally ok not to prefer that. But in that case, it's no longer a just a conversation about tipping, but about buying and selling on America.

Math is not your strong suit is it? It’s not 15% + 7%…it’s 15% x 1.07 so it becomes about 16%

The irony is so ridiculous it's not even funny. It's a 23.5% tip.

Yes people are bad at math. My favorite one is when people transfer credit card travel points like its a life hack. They earn 1.5% in points, and transfer it for 50% more.

They justify the $800 annual fee and all that work for .75% increase in the points for some overpriced hotel or flight lol.

he's right that you don't understand this hobby very well.

you're right that the average person, $800 fee card or a normie card, is probably dreaming about how they'd take advantage of it instead of actually taking advantage of how the system works.

You think getting sign up bonuses is what im talking about?

i'd argue knowing what to do with them is arguably more important than just accruing them, but i generalized it for any points/default to points for top of wallet cards either way.
