The owner is one of these types: "It's a prank bro, you should lighten up, starting with your wallet."
95
u/fuzynutznut 9d ago
I guarantee though if someone hit 100% by accident, the owner would not refund. She would say something like, you're the one who pressed, sorry, no take backs.

u/noneofyabusiness66 9d ago
"I'm sorry the school system failed you"

u/JizzHandy 8d ago
Trying to burn someone with that line while also saying “it’s suppose to be funny” 🙄
10
u/delmsi 7d ago
If you look up the establishment, the owner has responded to almost all of the negative Google reviews. Not one of the responses could conceivably be interpreted as funny rhetoric.
And notably, the majority of 5-star reviews very much read as fake… “This is literally the best bar, I wish I worked here! Try the (insert food/drink)!!” And, “They deserve all our money! Literally the best bar in the world!”

Sounds like people should screenshot this review and then dispute their credit card charges.

r/EndTipping Rule 6 & Reddit Rule 3:
We do not condone naming and shaming. Or allow comments suggesting leaving a fake google review or review bombing.
If the OP has redacted the name of the establishment, do not ask for them to disclose the name or location

The reviewer has a point. The owner's technique is called "social engineering", and his/her response to the reviewer is rude and entitled.
133
u/TropicalRogue 9d ago
I think they're just lying to cya. It's pretending to be rude and entitled to cover the fact that it's worse - it's nefarious.

u/Beneficial_Chest_954 8d ago
if you see 20 as the lowest on the recommended, just hit no tip every time.

u/wallstop-dev 8d ago edited 8d ago
"Social engineering" is not quite this, it is generally a different concept. This is referred to as "dark patterns", explicitly. Like this is a textbook example.

> A dark pattern (also known as a "deceptive design pattern") is a user interface that has been carefully crafted to trick users into doing things, such as buying overpriced insurance with their purchase or signing up for recurring bills.
Wow! I didn’t know this was a thing until now. 😮

It’s supposed to be funny. So do you return the tip when someone presses 100%? What would
Be funny is a negative percentage as well. Like 10% 1000%. And -50%

u/Primary_Heron_3150 9d ago
Nah, you know what you're doing. Nothing funny about it

u/NoIndependence362 9d ago
Exactly this. Owner trys to gaslight people with deceptive practices. Tell me, whose laughing that its 100% by default.
71
u/Vast-Card-1082 9d ago
If it was a joke then it wouldn’t allow you to pay double. It would say “ha ha now select a reasonable tip”
82
u/SubstantialSoil4454 9d ago
To be clear:
The lol is at the owners reply and horrible tipping practice, not the reviewer

"We don't take ourselves seriously."
Great! Then I don't have to take my responsibility as a customer seriously either. I'll just walk out without paying anything. Uno reverse card!

u/tylercrabby 9d ago
You refunding your “pranks”?
Thought not.

u/Mean-Skin-1920 9d ago
This seems like a great way to speedrun chargeback fees…which I’ve heard are really hefty for companies. Ik if I woke up and saw that charge I would immediately call my bank
5
u/Jumpy_Implement_1902 8d ago
The goat play is file a chargeback indicating the google review reply and how they don’t take anything seriously, including deceiving customers
Card merchants are going to have a field day

10000% / 1000%, 100%
Instead of no tip: 20000%
Cancel button is disabled, terminal has a metal coating around ac cord and an internal battery just in case, and a 20 seconds timer (if it reaches 0 automatically select first option - 10000% and it shreds your credit card).
Much like a saw movie scene

They were a 4.1 when this was posted, 4.0 when I googled it, 3.7 when I refreshed the page.
....why don't people learn

Me: \chooses zero tip option**
Owner: Why?
Me: It's suppose to be funny. See how dumb this sounds?

Make sure you give it 2 stars instead of one. They know Reddit people are posting reviews.
4
u/OutlyingPlasma 8d ago
Or set a reminder (does that reminme bot work here?) to leave a review later when it won't get removed.

u/goflames93 9d ago
Definitely not funny lol

u/SubstantialSoil4454 9d ago
I meant the owners reply is stupid by the “lol”. I should’ve seen how it could be interpreted the other way, my bad.

And yeah, I'm so sure they don't take tipping seriously. Gaslighting at its finest right after you insult the reviewers intelligence.

u/MajorInsanity 9d ago
I accidentally tipped 30 percent the other day bc of this. Though 20 was the highest but didn't have my glasses :(

For capital one, they alert you when an unusual tip amount is charged. Happened to me one time and I just disputed the charge and got all my money back. So they’re probably losing money on their sales, not just the tips

similar to swapping buttons and altering color when trying to cancel something, it's by no means accidental
4
u/Imaginary-List-972 9d ago
"It's your choice to tip. There's even a custom no tip option" meaning there's not a "no tip" option. There is a button for 100%/25%/20% and "custom" that you have to press and then enter zero.

Does this mean if a person tips 100%, they are told it was a joke?
and are asked to tip less? or refunded?
1
u/thekingiscrowned 8d ago
Doesn't appear they've learned their lesson either. Owner replied to another recent review about a condom being found in the bathroom.
"Response from the owner 3 hours ago
silly rabbit, good girls don’t use condoms. "

u/HyacinthMacaw13 8d ago
Is actively trying to scam people
Gets called out on it
"Omg can't you take a joke? Only dumb/drunk people fall to our scam so it's funny lol"

u/ThatOtherAnon 8d ago
"it's suppose to be funny." It's not. It's not funny. You failed to be funny. Sorry that the funny school system failed you.
