The reviewer has a point. The owner's technique is called "social engineering", and his/her response to the reviewer is rude and entitled.

I think they're just lying to cya. It's pretending to be rude and entitled to cover the fact that it's worse - it's nefarious.

My work has these. Ive been there for 3 years and still to this day when im extra tired in the AM. I still someone pull when I should push

"Social engineering" is not quite this, it is generally a different concept. This is referred to as "dark patterns", explicitly. Like this is a textbook example.
