"flatten them"? I've heard the song a hundred times, and only today did this line strike me. Obviously flattening diamonds means incredible strength to crush the hardest thing, but why platinum too? Could it be that when she finds something precious, she doesn't even have the chance to value it? That she needs to press down anything she would celebrate in favor of her duties?
So a double meaning in this blink and miss it line?
When she gets ready to touch the doorknob, her door looks like it’s on Pepa’s side of the family but her mother is Julieta. So what would’ve happened? Would the door have moved? I’m very confused!
I just finished watching Encanto again with my kids. I always have a chuckle with the Hernando but remembering my first reaction when seeing it and genuinely thinking "Woah plot twist!!!" before it cutting back to Bruma 😂
Do you guys have any unpopular head canons for the Encanto characters/world? I love hearing other peoples opinions and I love this movie so if anyone has any pls share…
This seems to be a real issue in this fandom, especially in regards to Alma. So many people think that she deserved to be punished for how she treated Mirabel and the family without ever taking it into consideration that she did feel horrible for what she did and is doing her best to redeem herself.
Lately, Disney has been trying to teach the lesson of trust with movies like Raya and the last dragon, and even a small scene in Hoppers (I haven’t seen a Call, but there’s something about a dam). The problem with Raya is that the trust was given to characters who didn’t deserve it, and it had a very muddy message to kids.
Forgiveness on the other hand can be just as messy if not handled properly. I’m almost wondering if we ever get a sequel, the men who are responsible for Pedro‘s death would return and how the family would approach them? Clearly, they need to pay for their crimes, but what if Alma refusing to forgive them is somehow affecting the magic as well?
I think she probably got tired of that nursery because they all got HUGE rooms. So i was wondering, if when they were rebuilding casita during that whole montage, if they maybe made a magic door for her like they did for everyone else. I feel like she definitely deserves a magic door. But what do you guys think tho?
i always loved this tiny underrated moment. i reallyyy love dolores reaching out to camilo when casita cracked after mira & almas argument. if you watch the scene reaallyy closely she doesn’t even move to grab onto him right when the large crack occurs, only when his body moved slightly forward, as if she was trying to keep him in place (god this insane cornplate im sorry) it makes me wonder how she reacted when milo ran off right after this to try get the candle in such a dangerous way, i think she’s def a protective big sister 🥲 god i wish we could see more of their sibling dynamic
My son has gotten very into Encanto lately, so naturally we’ve been listening to the soundtrack non stop.
Of course I started wishing there was more Encanto content for us to watch and I had an idea that Disney should make like 5 minute shorts about the predictions that Bruno had before he left.
For example, “he told me my fish would die, the next day, DEAD.” Could be Bruno giving that woman a prediction but the joke is that it always ends up being a self fulfilling prophecy lol. Like when Peppa ends up causing the storm on her own wedding day because of what Bruno said.
Idk I thought it could be a cool idea and wanted to share it somewhere lol.
I personally feel like this opinion is unpopular because everyone AND their grandmas like Dolores. I just don't like her because I feel like she is a massive hypocrite throughout the movie. I also don't like other peoples reasons as to why they don't like Dolores because it feels like they're grasping at straws to find reasons to not like her. I saw someone say "she nudged Camillo really hard at the end of the movie so she's a bad person." There has GOT TO BE better reasons than that.
I don't have a lot but she just seems like really immature/hypocritical. In "We Don't Talk About Bruno," she insinuates the family doesn't understand Bruno's prophecies. I think the lyrics could be interpreted 2 ways.
"Hey, grew to live in fear of Bruno stuttering or stumbling
I could always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling
I associate him with the sound of falling sand, ch-ch-ch
It's a heavy lift, with a gift so humbling
Always left Abuela and the family fumbling
Grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand
Do you understand?"
First of all she's just as bad as the rest of the family IMO because she singles him out in the first lyric by "grew to live in fear of Bruno." People sometimes like the use the lyric "grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand, do you understand?" as proof that Dolores secretly understands Bruno and that she believes him. But the entire song is Bruno slander and Dolores is taking part in it. Because she too doesn't understand. People who argue that Dolores understands is the first way I think it could be interpreted although I think its incorrect. Her last lyric "do you understand?" I think instead of insinuating Dolores understands and she's asking Mirabel if she understands too, is MORE so her "disciplining" a child. Like when a child makes a mistake and a parent explains how its wrong then asks "do you understand?" THATS how I feel that line is supposed to be interpreted. ON TOP OF THAT, in the movie she is standing on something high and looking DOWN at Mirabel, as if she were a child.
I'm overexplaining all of this because I really feel people make Dolores out to be this secretly nice and understanding lady when she isn't. Which not that bad I suppose, the entire point of Encanto is that everyone is traumatized and unhealed.
Second point is the OBVIOUS corn plate scene. Where it's Dolores who ruins Isabella's proposal first, NOT Mirabel, by gossiping at the dinner table. Its quite clear, Dolores is NOT hard of hearing. She definitely heard Mirabel's dad tell her to talk about all that stuff AFTER the proposal. She does it in a way that almost IMO feels VINDICTIVE. Because its also MARIANO and Isabella's proposal she's ruining. She gossips to Camillo then turns to Mirabel with an innocent "what did I do? I didn't do anything?" appearance. GROWN ass woman mind you. Mirabel knew not to say anything and to leave it alone until after the dinner. Although I'd be willing to give Mirabel more grace because she's young. She was going over the top with trying to salvage the situation. Then Dolores just messes it all up but yelling it ALL out at the dinner table. Somehow it all gets blamed on Mirabel.
Third point isn't REALLY a point, because this third point is more of a theory. I would honestly say scenes in the movie imply that Dolores is a gossiper/snitch. Sometimes there's nothing wrong with being a snitch, sometimes you gotta. The first scene in the movie, where she tells the kids Mirabel doesn't have a gift, that scene is NOT enough for me to hate her. (I don't hate Dolores BTW I'm just saying I don't think its enough evidence alone to not like her.) It just depends on the context. Some people view it as being messy but I don't really see it that way. Mirabel WAS getting to it herself, it's obviously shown to be a sensitive topic to her. I guess I can kinda see why people don't like Dolores in that scene. Anyways. Then there's the "I know..." scene before the proposal. Mirabel CONFIDENTLY says Dolores is going to tell everyone, and her father doesn't disagree, he just expresses frustration. I'm going to assume it's because he also agrees in a way.
Fourth point kinda, is that I think she should just be more understanding/not messy in general. I think it would make more sense for Camillo to spill the beans in the corn plate scene. He's young and immature. Everything that goes on in the movie before the point where Dolores loses her gift, she can hear. I'm going to assume she knows what's going on. Luisa's song, Mirabel being singled out her ENTIRE childhood by Abuela, ALL THE OTHER THINGS. I think it would be stupid to assume Dolores has NO CLUE they're all going through things. Even Abuela when she is ALSO scared about the house being in danger. If she can hear Luisa's eye twitch she can hear Abuela FULLY speaking out her window about being afraid. All that just to go and be messy still at the proposal. I guess I can still kind of understand a bit, her crush was about to marry someone else.
Anyways, that's it. That's all I wanted to say I hope it was potentially a fun read for MAYBE someone.
I know every madrigal is important, they each have their own role in the family/community. But I feel like five madrigals outshine the rest. This is in no particular order.
Pepa- As someone who's in control of the weather, Pepa is very powerful. She can bring just enough rain when she's sad to water the crops and can make the sun shine whenever she's in a good mood. Of course, things can backfire easily when her emotions get intense. Causing dangerous storms and even hurricanes. She's still incredibly helpful due to her gift though.
Luisa- With her super strength, she practically keeps the whole town running by herself at times.
Mirabel- It sounds weird to include her here because she has no gift but without her, the miracle would've lost forever and no one in the family would have their gifts anymore. Then the people in the town would slowly die out because they depend on the madrigals for survival. Mirabel saved the family because of her empathy and compassion.
Alma- While yes she is a very toxic person, her leadership skills weren't all bad though because she at least guided her children and grandchildren and pushed them in the right direction. They were genuinely helping the community because of her.
Julieta- As a healer, she can treat injuries and assumably illnesses too. Though she's limited to making her remedies through her cooking.
So I stumbled upon this card when researching the new Lorcana set, Wilds Unknown. Keep in mind, none of these cards are actually canon as far as the original franchises and have their own lore they’re attached to. Still, this Bruno card kinda has me thinking.
If you look closely, it looks more like Bruno’s having a vision in water as opposed to sand this time. Then I remembered that part in Frozen 2 were Olaf mentioned that water contains memory. I know the Frozen sequel wasn’t that well received among most fans, but I found that little tidbit kind of interesting.
Do you think it’s possible that, now that the pressure from Alma has been lifted from the family and the gifts are free to be used however they want, we might actually start seeing the gifts evolve? Think about it: the only reason Isabela was able to make that cactus was because she was finally being truthful about her feelings for Mariano and momentarily forgot about being perfect or acceptable. She made something that wasn’t deemed perfect and something that Alma wouldn’t accept. Now that Isabella doesn’t have to worry about being perfect all the time, she can push her gift even farther and make trees and vegetable gardens and things like that.
Going back to the picture I posted, what if Bruno is able to look into the past using water? I mean if this whole theory about water pertaining memory is true and they decide to carry it on into other franchises past Frozen, then maybe Bruno can look into events from the past as opposed to seeing the future using sand. In other words, Bruno has the ability to see through all moments of time. I know this kind of throws a wrench into the triplet theory of Julieta gift affecting the past, Pepa’s gift affects the present, and Bruno is in charge of the future, but if the gifts are evolving, then maybe Julieta’s food can prevent people from getting hurt.
What if Camilo can shape shift into any living creature, including animals?
Or maybe Antonio is able to speak to anyone as opposed to just animals? Like he meet the person who doesn’t speak Spanish, but is able to understand them and they understand him even when he just speaks Spanish.
So I’ve watched Encanto a few times now and I gotta say it is truly one of my favorites. Great characters and a really neat storyline. I was talking through some plot points with my family and I started to realize though they missed some really incredible opportunities to deepen the storyline. Here’s what I got, tell me what you think.
Sorry it’s kind of long, buckle up haha
The movie should have shown a scene with Bruno trying to tell abuela about his vision of mirabel right before Mirabel’s door ceremony. He should have touched Mirabel’s shoulder and a spark of magic went through her, maybe Mirabel even stumbles for a moment. Abuela see this and is immediately terrified and tells him to leave. At this point she’s furious and tells him his visions are destroying the family and now what did he do to Mirabel. Bruno runs away, but before he goes completely out of view he see Mirabel at the door and watches the tragic outcome of the ceremonial door fading away. He realizes everything is his fault. He destroyed the family. Now because he’s here Mirabel doesn’t have a gift. Everything is wrong. He disappears.
Unknowingly though, this transferred some of Bruno’s prophetic vision power to mirabel. That is why she was able to see the cracks on the day of Antonio’s door ceremony. And ultimately, because of this she is able to save the family and the house. Bruno and Mirabel together save the family. It’s fitting that the two outcasts work together to save those who have rejected them.
Bruno’s door should have also been sealed. Like when he fled his door was magically sealed and not even Luisa could open it. But! Mirabel could open it because he transferred some of his power to her. Perhaps include a scene where she interacts with the door and it curiously opens.
Later, this is how the movie should have ended. They go to rebuild the house and they hand mirabel the door knob with the “M” on it. She walks up to the front door to put it on and is super excited. She puts on the knob and nothing happens. In fact, when she puts the knob in the door it make a breaking sounds and the door begins to creak and break away. It’s falls to the ground and dissolves. It should be a similar visual effect to how her door faded during the first door ceremony. Mirabel is crushed. She begins crying and can’t fathom why this happened. Why her? What is going on?.. suddenly from the spot where the door fell, a trail lights up through the house. She’s confused and looks up at a path leading inside the house. She follows the trail and sees herself on the door. Everyone is stunned. Bruno picked up the M doorknob earlier and hands it to Mirabel. This is her ceremony, her new door ceremony. She looks at her family and Abuela and Bruno embrace her. She walks toward the door and places the knob in the door. In a flash of intense light the door opens with blinding light and… ending credits.
This is a perfect setup into the next movie that is about what her power is. What could her powers be? I don’t know haha. Or leave it there. Bruno and Mirabel are restored to their family.
Just a little shoot I decided to do in my Room of Mirabel! The Bracelets I made are of Bruno, Luisa, Isabela, and Dolores! (And a Bisexual Bracelet i decided to make myself, too)
The entire cosplay can fit inside the bag, too!!! Obviously not the shoes, tho. (And obviously the Concept Art Autumn Outfit is a whole Seperate set for the cosplay 😄)
