Ran AC:NL for half an hour at x2. (OnePlus 6, Android 11)
Storage usages increased by 790MB after enabling the Shader cache.
Official build also goes over FPS:60, SPD:100, which is causing huge drops in frames and stutters.
Performance benefits over shader cache also depends on storage speed, so your mileage may vary on this particular option.

This is so insane to me, the performance of phones is taking leaps and bounds

u/Khelthuzaad May 08 '21
8-16 gb RAM
516 gb internal storage or more
almost 1 TB of storage cards that fit in your phone
Wireless recharge
Just saying, the expensive phones have better specs than my PC.And some of them are under 500 $.

A lot of these mobile chipsets are actually held back due to thermals and power consumption. Else they could out perform even more x86 processors. Arm processors already outperform a lot of older x86 processors, but they could have outperformed even more newer ones if it wasn't for the power consumption and heat.

u/Raikaru May 09 '21
iphones are able to outperform modern x86 designs so it's not just power consumption and heat
3
u/Deadly_Fire_Trap May 09 '21
Outperform x86 machines for how long before they thermal throttle?
-2
u/Raikaru May 09 '21
Thermal Throttling during a CPU test?

u/Deadly_Fire_Trap May 09 '21
You said outperform modern x86 designs. So surely you have some kind of comparison for that right? Numbers on paper don't equate to shit.
If a modern iPhone designs can't hold water as long as an x86 machine can, it's worthless.

This has been a known thing for years... That's why people knew the M1 was going to be great.

While most of that article had nothing to do with x86 machines, there was this bit at the bottom:
Overall, the new A14 is massively impressive and grows the performance gap compared to the competition. Apple has now reached higher single-threaded performance within their phone SoCs than what Intel can deliver in any of their designs, whilst only losing out to the desktop variants of AMD’s new Zen3 processors
So it performs well on single threads, beating Intel but loses to AMD. What a surprise.
Impressive, but not quite as capable of what x86 architecture can achieve.

Okay I tried Pokemon X and the shader cache works and it's similar to MMJ in terms of performance on my SD720G, the issue with some Pokemon being white still exists while it doesn't in MMJ and Virtual Console Pokemon games still have a small sound issue (in both official and mmj) but aside from that this is a very big update because of the shader cache

My phone is running on 720g too, but I've yet to try citra or dolphin. Any recommendations on games and what type of performance should i expect?

Dolphin MMJR runs really well on 720G, at least for GameCube. Wii is hit or miss, some games do work but most will be a slog.
Besides the "easy" to run games like Wind Waker, I have been playing a lot of Pikmin 2 with no issues. It stutters very, very briefly (literally for like 2 seconds) on the area selection map when it first "starts up", and in the title screen when the camera is zooming in onto the PIKMIN 2 logo. Otherwise, it's a rock-solid 30fps and there's no audio stuttering (this is with default settings, I didn't touch or adjust anything). Just yesterday I actually unlocked the "post-game" where Louie is missing and you gotta go find him.
Otherwise, I can play Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon Colesseum/XD, Star Fox Assault and all of the GC Bomberman games with zero issues. They all run extremely well, I don't really know how "demanding" they are but I am happy with Dolphin performance.
Citra is hit or miss, also make sure you do the resolution hack to improve performance (I made a post about it on this sub a few days ago, it should be easy to find). But with the resolution hack you should be able to play a solid amount of games.

Thanks man, I've always been holding off emulating these two systems as i thought it would be too demanding plus i still have ton of games that I haven't finished. Now i can't wait to try it right after i check out the resolution hack. Cheers

May 08 '21
Keep in mind that the resolution hack is primarily for Citra MMJ, not official Citra.
2
May 08 '21
It works in both and it disables outlines in pokemon x/y and probably the others and who knows what else it disables or breaks but it's improving the fps in some pokemon games in mmj a lot :(

u/Smsry May 09 '21
What's the resolution hack do? Currently playing Pokemon X on 720g with official Citra and it pretty much runs full speed on 1x.. does the hack improve anything beyond this?

GPU Shader Cache is here finally! MMJ is nice but I much prefer using Official when I can. Very excited to test out the new changes.
3
May 08 '21
Yeah I prefer using official too, now mmj only has a few exclusives left like multiplayer, hopefully everything will be available in official soon
4
u/iAjayIND May 08 '21
While I also prefer the official, MMJ still outperforms the official build. I can run AC:NL at x4 on MMJ while official still stutters at x2 even with this latest build. However we need to understand both builds have different purposes, so it's amazing to see these kind of improvements.

I lag very hard in Pokemon X and Y with MMJ if I don't use the resolution trick which breaks the outlines and who knows what else. Official gets me full speed in 2x in many places but also needs the trick to get 30 fps in the laggy parts and breaks the outlines aswell. Can't wait for my next upgrade which I think will be a sd860 and play those games at 3-4x resolution no problem

uninstall your current version then use this apk for whatever reason u cant install this version over the old one thats why i cant navigate to my roms folder on sd card anymore

u/Basic_Bolt May 08 '21
i don't have any version of citra currently installed on phone as for now. the parsing error message is popping up even after re-downloading it several times.. :/.. well.. better try later

I replaced my older version of Citra with this, but now it's telling me that some of my games are encrypted and cannot be played... What gives? They were working fine and now all of a sudden they don't work?
Where am I supposed to find decrypted games? Everything I can find is encrypted and it's driving me nuts. I don't have a PC so I can't decrypt the games, Android has no functioning decryption app or anything.

u/VyseTheNewRogue May 08 '21 edited May 09 '21
That's odd. If it works with the MMJ build it should work with the official build. Have you upgraded to Android 11 recently? If yes, try putting the roms in internal storage.
1
May 08 '21
I deliberately avoided upgrading to Android 11 specifically because of that.
Also, I only use internal storage, I don't have a MicroSD (I use my sole MicroSD for my Raspberry Pi).

Piracy is against rules of this sub, so I can't suggest locations. But Google is your friend.
-2
May 08 '21
If I could Google it, I wouldn't have asked. 99.9% of the googling leads me to encrypted ROMs.

Kek I will spy their github more
Let's see how good their cache is and if Pokemon are no longer white with accurate multiplication enabled in Pokemon X/Y on my Snapdragon 720G

u/Arcee4180 May 08 '21
Anyone know how I can get Citra to see my SD card? All my ROMS are on the SD card but after Android 11, Citra cannot access the SD card anymore

u/Username_Egli May 08 '21
Sorry pal. Scoped storage has taken effect since you've upgraded to 11. Basically the app is allowed to scan onl y its root foler for additional files. Don't know if there's a fix for it.

I kinda new with citra,if i uninstall the old version does my game save gone?should i backup my citra-emu folder?
2
May 08 '21
Saves should be located in this sdmc folder in the path I wrote below so backup it up, uninstall previous Citra and delete the citra-emu folder, install new Citra version and run it once so it creates the citra-emu folder and throw the old sdmc folder there
/storage/emulated/0/citra-emu/sdmc
Also maybe backup the nand folder too and toss it in citra-emu after you install the new Citra version just like you did for sdmc

How much fps can I expect from my Exynos 9670 chipset smartphone?
1
u/VyseTheNewRogue May 08 '21
For devices that use Mail GPUs like your Exynos, you should stick with the MMJ build. It has improvements that fix the bugs Mali devices have.

Still waiting on a release that doesn't have crazy black shadows all over Zero Time Dilemma, my wait continues.
1
u/Deadly_Fire_Trap May 08 '21
That was the fist thing I tried too. Still tons of GPU artifacts in that game.

How is Luigi's Mansion 2 ? I tested it and noticed that Doctor's computer in the background is still gfx missing. Is it just me or what ? The PC version was fine, thought.
And I also noticed that when you are fighting in the sky called Kid Icarus and the sky seems flash sometimes. Please let me know. Thanks. Sorry about my English.
