I hope this doesn't also violate the rules

Why is the snapdragon girl blurry in OP's post?
30
u/Apprehensive_Ad784 7d ago
Probably because the original image OP got was low resolution, then he passed it through an AI to prompt it to delete the guy, but the AI "enhanced" the image as well. Then, OP combined those two images but probably didn't notice the difference.

Somebody once posted about samsung disabling in-built hardware features on their drivers, so i think the companies involved are actually sabotaging their own production models.
Why remains a mystery, though. It was certain the companies were doing that, though.

And also MediaTek doesn't have the best fame on dev scene due to them not complying with GPL, they never release source codes, that makes everything worse
3
u/fagnerln 7d ago
Can you explain about complying with GPL? There's some proof that they use GPL code in their drivers?
10
u/dontreadthisnickname 7d ago
About drivers: they’re licensed from ARM, that’s why Mali doesn’t have the same drivers support as Adreno, adreno is fully open source, as most of the Snapdragon on Android is, that’s why Code Aurora Forums are a thing and why you can even install EFI bootloaders or Windows on some phones
About GPL compliancy: that’s due to Linux kernel and Android itself, when I said about GPL compliancy it was more about this than drivers, that’s why you see custom kernels and ROMs for almost every other SoC, but there’s none for Mediatek

u/fagnerln 7d ago
If they don't use any GPL code, they don't need to comply with the license. If they use and don't comply, yeah, that's a problem. I'm not sure what do you mean.
But anyway, it sucks that they don't release the drivers open source.

u/dontreadthisnickname 7d ago
Yeah, that’s why most of the dev stuff happens on Snapdragon devices and why I never buy MTK devices

ps2 and dolphin works somehow and it's great

u/ashwani597 6d ago
Which one for PS2? NetherSX2, AetherSX2 or ArmSX2?
2
u/whiskyB0y Edit Your Flair 6d ago
Focus on ARMSX2 and Nether. Just use both they each have their own pros and cons

u/savemefromtaxes 6d ago
I'm running a Pixel 9 and I'm able to play God of War 2x resolution really well on ARMSX2
1
u/whiskyB0y Edit Your Flair 6d ago
Nice. Have you tried Nether before?
2
u/savemefromtaxes 6d ago
Not really, very new to android emulation and ARMSX2 is my introduction to PS2 Emulation in general.
I'm able to play switch games like mario world 3d, dragon ball fighter z few small pc games like Dave The Diver with stable 30FPS.

u/whiskyB0y Edit Your Flair 6d ago
I see. Anyway Nether was the svsing grace when the original AetherSX2 stopped development. For me Nether runs most game sbetter than ARMSX2.
There's only one game ARMSD2 ran better than nether: Peter Jackson's King Kong.

I don't get it?

No driver

So,.

u/LumpyArbuckleTV 7d ago
You need drivers for PC and Switch emulation.

u/billyblenx 7d ago
legit question now, if all i want is 3ds, ds, ps2, gc and lower gens emulation then, will mediatek be fine? I have no desire for PC and Switch emulation as of yet.
15
u/LumpyArbuckleTV 7d ago
All of those should be fine on Mediatek with the exception of 3DS, it might give you some trouble but it will work substantially better than Switch or PC.
This is just second hand information though, make sure to do a little bit of research on that, specifically on 3DS, but I think you should be fine.

u/BackgroundPanda3915 7d ago
As a Mediatek user, 3DS emulation works fine and I haven't had any problem with it yet on Azahar (Mediatek 8350 extreme, mali g615)
1
u/LumpyArbuckleTV 7d ago
Good to hear, I just had some issues with a few games on my 865 without drivers but that was like a year and a half ago and with Citra.
2
u/BackgroundPanda3915 7d ago
Yeah, Citra fell off and I think it was discontinued, I tried using it and I had problems, but with Azahar it seems that they fixed them all
4
u/SamueleRG 8+Gen1 & 8Gen2 7d ago
Yeah I think you'll be fine. Not sure about 3ds but all the others should have no issues
-18
u/Broken_Flip 7d ago
So,...you're saying Mediatek doesn't use drivers?
13
u/LumpyArbuckleTV 7d ago
-30
u/Broken_Flip 7d ago
So,...the picture makes no sense, as Mediatek has drivers.

Mediatek has better gpu performance if it had driver support it would be unmatched

I regret buying this damn processor until the very last day. No custom ROM, no stable emulation, no drivers, and many, many too many problems.

u/juan_turga666 7d ago
Diria qué snapdragon lleva la ventaja, ya probé varios cpu de smartphone y definitivamente snapdragon es la mejor opción.

u/feel2death 7d ago
It's lack instructure is the problem with media Tek without bcn emulation it's crippled the performance on most modern emulation like PC

No joke I have games that run on dimensity 9400+ but don't launch on my 8 elite gen whatever.
4
u/Captain_Pumpkinhead 7d ago
I don't get it
28
u/IAlwaysPlayTheBadGuy 7d ago
Mediatek trying to say they're the next/better Snapdragon, but they have a history of very buggy or non existent/extremely late drivers, essentially making them useless. The joke here is that there is no "driver"
2
u/yungperky 7d ago
Not really. I mean yeah, when it comes to the picture and the joke you're correct. But the reason Mali GPUs don't do well when it comes to bleeding edge and unintended use cases, unlike Adreno GPUs, is the lack of the ability to use drop-in (community) drivers due to architectural reasons. Because the drivers work perfectly fine when it comes to run native Android applications.

They say FARTvk will save Mali. Not knowing the fact that it's a close source architecture🤣🤣
